I've come to the conslusion I won't score a single goal this season with this team. In my cup match I had zero shots on goal in the first half.

Perhaps someone could put together a list of teams ranked, so those of us who don't know much about soccer could have a better idea when picking teams.

I'm handicapped enough with my skill level, I don't need a team handicap as well. Unless there is a way in the game to look at a teams overall ranking and I'm missing it in this wonderful interface.

Thanks

Konami has their little 'shape' thing they do for teams and players. You'll see in the center of the screen when selecting teams each teams' 'shape,' one red, one blue. It's a pentagon, specifically, with Teamwork, Technique, Speed, Attack, and Defense as the points and the further from the center each point is, the stronger that team is in that area. Thus, the total area of each team's shape indicates it's overall quality. It's not utterly precise, but it's a good guage to compare teams against each other.

The 17 teams in the Top Tier are the absolute best 17 teams in the game. There are 7, however, that are a cut above even in that group, and they are: Manchester United, Chelsea, Arsenal, Barcelona, Real Madrid, Inter, and AC Milan. Liverpool is not as good a team overall as, say, Man U., but they are still very good, with good depth (so you have some nice choices to make at certain key positions, unlike the Tier Two teams where you rarely have more than one 'best' player at any position) and with good defenders and some very dangerous attacking players (including the freak, the stick, the tall one, Peter Crouch). The team, no matter how good, won't score goals for you automatically, however. You have to create goals yourself, one way or another, and the only way to learn how to do that is to play the game and try different things, observe what your opponents do to be successful, and watch real games.

Could someone please let me know if I'm supposed to be playing against someone soon? I played at met34 last week but if I'm reading the schedule correctly then I need to play against another two teams before midseason. Is that correct? The schedule over at the SGN site is confusing me:(

Muchos gracias!

Well, it was bound to happen sooner or later. The 360 has bit the dust gentleman. I am getting the 3 flashing red lights of doom. MS is sending me the Box. When my original xbox bit the dust the turn around was about 7 days. Not sure how long it takes now.

Zeppo, I obviously won't be able to finish up my first half of the league and I guess the cup either. Let me know what you think. I am ok with whatever you decide.

DIV III Result

Arsenal 3 vs. West Ham 4

28' Own Goal (Lehman)
36' Tevez
59' Tevez

61' Ljungberg
74' Henry

83' Tevez

90+ Henry

13(7) Shots 16(7)
7(4) Fouls 5(1)
49% Poss 51%

West Ham edged Arsenal 4-3 in a match that Jens Lehman will be keen to forget. Arsenal's German keeper had a nightmare of a match, not only opening the scoring with an own goal but also letting in two bad angled Carlos Tevez shots.

The match began with West Ham on top creating many chances but unable to finish. They were helped in the cause in the 28th minute when Lehman knocked a sharp angled Ashton cross into his own net. Eight minutes later West Ham doubled their lead when Ashton sent Tevez on a breakaway to neatly finish.

There was a moment of controversy just prior to half time as Thierry Henry appeared to be brought down by Gabbidon whilst on a breakaway. Amazingly, the referee called the foul but did not produce a red card.

West Ham seemed to be cruising to another victory in the 59th minute when Ashton set up Tevez once again, this time a bad angled shot with his left foot that Lehman should have saved.

However, the third goal sprung Arsenal into life and they struck back almost immediately through a fine curling effort from Freddie Ljunberg. Soon after Henry combined neatly with his striking partner Van Persie to deftly chip Green and make it 3-2. Arsenal were firmly in the drivers seat and Green had to make a string of saves as a tiring West Ham defense were unable to keep up with the fluid passing of a revitalized Arsenal.

Unfortunately, the Gunners hopes were dealt a blow when Tevez completed his hat-trick in the 83rd with another tame effort, this time following a swift counterattack, that Lehman should have saved.

Henry made West Ham sweat with a fantastic solo effort in injury time but it was too late for an Arsenal side who were worth at least a point.

Great game lsdean - sorry about the voice-chat, my fiancee was passed out on the couch and I didn't want to wake her. See u in the return leg!

Sully, that sounds great. Let's shoot for 10PM just to be safe, but sometimes I can get on earlier depending on the kids. If you see me online playing something prior to that just shoot me an invite since you are home and I'll quit my game and join you.

Division IV game: Inter 3, Everton 3

Inter and Everton fought tooth and nail to the best finish I've had in my young WE life, both knocking in shots in injury time to preserve a draw. Adriano knocked a rebound header in 1 minute into the extra time, and then Osman drilled a beautiful one-touch laser to end it 3-3

Scoring:

Adriano, 6'
Adriano, 48'
Cahill, 74'
Beattie, 76'
Adriano, 90+
Osman, 90+

Inter (Everton)

Shots: 15/10 (20/12)
Penalties: 0 (0)
Free Kicks: 3 (2)
Corner Kicks: 4 (1)
Fouls: 2/1 (3/1)
Yellows: 0 (1, Weir)
Reds: 0 (0)
Possession: 51% (49%)

Incredible, INCREDIBLE game, FIFA. Was a real joy, with the best finish I've ever seen. Tons of defense for about 70 minutes, and then no defense the rest of the night.

Division IV game: Inter 6, Levante 5

Met34 and I took several tries to get the game completed, finally getting one done on the fifth try. There was no defense from start to finish in this one, with the earliest goal coming 7 minutes in and the last one coming at the 88' mark and 11 goals scored between the two teams. Both teams had their chances, and it was a dog fight down to the end, where Adriano fired a cannon shot that rocketed into the back of the net to take the late lead. Levante pushed right back down the field, and it wasn't until Figo stepped in front of the ball directly in front of net and knocked it clear that it was sealed. Great game, met!

Scoring:

Ibrahimovic, 7'
Mustapha, 15'
Mustapha, 22'
Ibrahimovic, 36'
Reggi, 41'
Tommasi, 45+
Adriano, 51'
Stankovic, 56'
Reggi, 71'
Ibrahimovic, 82'
Adriano, 88'

Stats: Inter Levante

Shots: 9(6) 14(7)
Penalties: 0 0
Free Kicks: 5 3
Corner Kicks: 1 4
Fouls: 3(2) 5(3)
Yellows: 1, Vieira 0
Reds: 0 0
Possession: 46% 54%

Some of the most fun WE I've had tonight, when the connection worked. Good games, guys and thank you.

It was more luck than skill that I just happened to bump into the Everton boss after the match last night. I was sitting in a hip and comfortable bar a few blocks from the San Siro attempting to determine if the match I just witnessed was the most exciting finish i've ever seen. Just as I was enjoying the last few drops of my drink I saw the Everton coach walk in. I first met him when I had just started covering "real football" (after writing for the NY Giants in the NFL) while he was the coach at Crystal Palace. For some odd reason he took to my reckless and brutally honest style and not long after I was playing with his kids at a backyard BBQ and flirting with his wife. Once Palace was relegated our paths did not cross as often as before, but we managed to stay in touch on occasion.

The coach sat off in a corner of the bar, not far from an open dart board. I did not hesitate to order 2 Crown and Cokes and go visit my old friend. En-route to his table I made eye contact with a tremendous young lady, Her long brunette hair and dark eyes doing their best to distract me.

Coach lifted his head and greeted me with an enthusiastic "Hello my Friend." As is typical of days past, he began our conversation not by discussing the match, but life itself. He asked how I was doing, where i've been and why i've not called him more often. He also went on to say that his wife misses the flirtation. Of course, I needed to see pictures of his little ones, who are now 4 and 6. I was amazed at how big they had become, but then again.... it's been a couple of years since i've seen them in person.

"So Alexx, were you at the match?" said the coach as he lifted his glass.
"Ah, yea....I'm just trying to digest that finish."
"Me too. Other than the fact that we blew the marking on Adriano on his first goal, we owned that first half. We were very patient with the ball which is something we were not against Levante. We built slowly and made some brilliant passes that led to great chances. We were a confident bunch at the half, knowing that if we simply continue playing patient football, we would have a chance to get back in the game. The second half started and Inter doubles their lead moments after the whistle blows. That had me thinking we were in too deep a hole to climb out of, but as you saw the boys decided to fight. We dominated the next 10-12 minutes of play, but could not break through."

As coach was talking about the match I took a quick peek at my female interest who was now sipping on red wine, while flipping through some sort of style magazine.

"She's your type Alexx." said the coach with a crooked grin."

"You're right... she's gorgeous!........ and then, (redirecting back to the match) Inter stole the momentum away from you."

"No kidding" the coach replied. "They could have scored a couple of more during that span if it were not for some brilliant saves by Howard as well as some great individual efforts on the back line. We survived that blitz and then out of nowhere Cahill takes that early cross on the volley and sends a laser into the back of the net. We were hardly done celebrating on the bench when Beattie broke through and leveled the match moments later."

"I have to admit, Coach, the next 15 minutes were nothing short of amazing. Your boys smelled blood and had a number of chances to go ahead. That flurry just before regulation time ended almost won the match for you."

"Tell me about it" the coach says as he signals for another round. "That cross from the corner was headed into the side of the net. The lob into the box saw Beattie and Johnson both have cracks at it, but that mad scramble didn't go our way. In-fact, the Inter counter out of that mess led to Ibrahimovic hitting the post and rebounding to a wide open Adriano who made a beautiful diving header for the win... Or at least I thought. We scrambled back to the line to get the ball in play quickly and much to my surprise we had possession on the left side with little pressure from Inter. Cahill was just kind of sitting there with the ball like we had all all day to make something happen. I remember screaming in my head "do something with it!" Just then he sent in the early cross that found the head of Osman who put that header to high to the left side where the Inter keeper was able to get a piece of it, but not enough..... We went bonkers on the sideline!

"It was amazing Coach! I was pulling hard for you but as you know I prefer to sit with the real fans and not with the media... I had to keep my celebrating to myself as I was in Italy, where people have died recently at matches. I decided it was best to play it safe."

We chatted for a few more minutes before the coach asked me who I was writing for. I shared with him that at the present time I was simply writing for myself, more of a Freelance gig. Needless to say, one drink later..(maybe two) I was officially a member of the Everton family.

"Alexx, the night is still young, go introduce yourself that beautiful woman. I told the team i'd treat them to dinner tonight so I need to be running. Oh, I'm looking forward to hearing the details in the morning.. "

With that the coach slipped on his black coat and headed for the door. Me on the hand.. Well, I traded my cocktail for a glass of wine and introduced myself to Haley.

Ajax 3:0 Monaco

Ajax started the season with a strong performance, beating Monaco 3-0 at home.

Ajax started with a few good looks at net, as solid passing put Huntelaar in on goal early on. His shot however was well saved, and Rosales apparently was intimidated by the giant open net staring at him and shot high from 6 yards.

Ajax would take the lead soon after. Kept onsides by a sleeping RB, Huntelaar was again behind the defense, and this time the finish came, putting Ajax in front.

Monaco responded with a long spell of possession in the attacking third, but couldn't quite find hit man Koller in the box, and it went to half 1-0.

Monaco reshuffled at half looking for a spark, but neither team showed a clear edge immediately following the restart. A breakthrough came however after a midfield turnover allowed Rosales to run free down the right wing for Ajax. His cross went over the pack but Babel chested it down at the back post, and put the ball past a charging keeper to make it 2-0.

Only moments later, Ajax delivered a decisive blow to Monaco, with Huntelaar nodding home a Babel cross. Desperate for offense, Monaco used their last sub to bring on DiVaio, who did create some scoring opportunities. It was too little too late however, and the final whistle blew, 3-0.

Goals:
Huntelaar
Babel
Huntelaar

Stats
Ajax Monaco
SOG - 8(5), 6(2)
FK - 2, 4
F(O) - 4(0), 2(0)
Poss - 46, 54

No injuries or bookings.

Also, D1 guys, I'll be available to play late tonight, early afternoon friday, or most of Sunday. Please let me know if you can play any of those times.
