** Play-in Match **

Levante (met34) got to a quick start scoring two goals within the first 4 minutes in front of their fans against Newcastle( macosmjrr)

The first goal was made possible by through pass from Robert to Reggi who beat the offside trap to score in the second minute of the game.

Two minutes laters, thanks to a nice cross from Ettien, this time Robert was found himself on scoresheet on the 4th minute.

Then Newcastle overcame the shocking double salvo and had a couple good chances in the first half. Levante played safe and had one more big opportunity but Reggi could not pass the goal post this time in the 36th minute.

With second half, Newcastle started attacking to close the gap, but Levante was strong in defense and played offside trap against the long passes by Newcastle.

Out of nowhere, Levante struck twice again in 4 minute time span. In the 72nd minute, Ze Maria crossed the ball from right side, and Tommasi capitalized the opportunity with flying header to the bottom corner of the goal. In the 74th minute, Ettien brought the ball from the right side, and laid the ball for Reggi's second goal for the game.

The remaining time was not enough for both teams to score any more goals. The end score was Levante 4- Newcastle 0

Great game Met I learned a lot after that 4-nil a$$ whooping. I've chosen a home stadium for Newcastle FYI.

Newcastle United F.C. (Tyneside) stadium = Stade Louis II

I can't play tonight I am doing work on my basement, so maybe this weekend.

If I get done and you're online I'll send you an message.

After my pasting last night by Macca, I kind of lost my interest a little so I just want to get the games over with.

For the record Macca was really nice and called off the dogs for much of the game (I'm positive he could have scored 20 if he wanted) and was giving me tips on what formations to play etc.

But his skill level at this game is just in another league to anyone I have played. As soon as I made a pass he had a guy on me, I never had time to think. He is going to run the table in our division without breaking a sweat.

Uh oh..I will get in line for my pasting then as I don't even mess with the formations. Don't know enough soccer to do so.

Div III Result:

West Ham 5 vs AC Milan 3

14' Ashton
20' Inzaghi
23' Pantsil
39' Kaka
45'+ Tevez (Pen)
46' Gilardino
69' Ashton
76' Ashton

Red Cards: Gattuso

23(15) Shots 16(8)
3(2) Fouls 2(0)
48% Poss. 52%

West Ham United and AC Milan played an 8 goal thriller tonight in which West Ham edged ahead thanks to a Dean Ashton hat-trick. West Ham & Milan traded strikes in the first half and the game was 2-2 heading into injury time at the end of the first half until an unfortunate foul in the box by Genaro Gatuso on Tevez saw the AC Milan midfielder sent off. Tevez duly dispatched his 5th goal of the season from the penalty spot. However, there was still a precious few seconds left in the half for Inzaghi to be denied an equalizer as his goal-bound shot was cleared off the line by Gabbidon.

AC Milan began the second half in stunning style with a goal almost directly from the kick off. Gilardino ran onto an inch-perfect pass from Seedorf before thrashing the ball onto the underside of the West Ham cross-bar and in from a full 30 yards. It was an absolutely stunning strike and an early contender for goal of the season.

With the match tied at 3-3 both Milan and West Ham traded chances before Ashton broke the deadlock in the 69th minute, knocking in from a short corner. AC Milan almost struck back immediately with both Seedorf and Kaka pulling the strings from midfield. Against the run of play West Ham wrapped up the points when a Tevez pass broke the Milan offside trap and Ashton completed his hat-trick.

5-3 the final score.

Fantastic game Hogz/TheTruth - it's too bad that you can't save replays because that Gilardino goal was a beauty! Good luck for the rest of the season and I'll catch you in the return leg!

Cheers,
Macca

Just a note that Jason has put the Season Nine Cup up at the SGN League site, and the games for the First Round have been added to the schedule and are ready to be updated with results.

To find the Cup, just click the 'home' link on the left panel of the page to get the master list of all active leagues and tournaments at the site.

The standings page for the Cup is pretty much redundant, but the schedule page is where it's at, so to speak. Use the schedule page to report your Cup game results (I've already inputted the result that was posted here). Note that we are not keeping individual stats for the Cup because we'd have to add players to the rosters all over again, but I guess if you want to add players as you go that would be fine. Because of this, we have to make sure to post bookings and injuries here in the thread so we can try to keep track.

Once the First Round is complete, I'll do the draw for the Second Round and subsequently add those games to the Cup schedule.

Please try to get your Cup games out of the way early, because unlike with League games, everyone else has to wait until the current round is complete before moving ahead to the next round. This Cup will consist of 6 total rounds (including the Final), so we've got to try to keep moving with this. I would love to get Round Two up and running early next week.

 That write up makes it sound like I am a God or something, when I totally just got lucky. lol

And let me just add...I was completely worn out after that match. It felt like I was out there sprinting on the pitch. Maccas guys were on my guys quicker than flies on a cow paddy. Danimal was right, you have almost no time to think. It took a little bit for me to adjust as Macca's skill is just crazy good. I can't imagine what the score would have been if I was using an equal team. Good game...and Macca is very nice while he is kicking your butt. Gave me some good tips.

Cup Match, Inter vs Arsenal

In a battle of superheroes wearing soccer uniforms, Adriano for Inter and Henry for Arsenal, Inter came out on top 3-1. Arsenal showed some rust early, with a centering pass by Ibrahomivic one-touched in by Adriano only 9' in. Arsenal had numerous chances in the first half, with two separate shots bouncing off of the posts. Adriano again shot a laser on a breakaway through pass (again by Ibrahimovic) just before the half to put Inter up 2-0 at the intermission.

Arsenal fought back, drawing a foul and netting Inter's Stankovic a yellow. Henry drilled the penalty kick to bring Arsenal to within 1 goal at the 61' mark. Within a single goal and Arsenal mounting a charge, it took a single Adriano breakaway to change the game. Nearing the penalty area, Adriano was charging forward on another through pass, this one by Figo, when Arsenal's Senderos flagrantly tripped him, earning a red card. The foul was outside the penalty area, though, and the shot was high. However, missing a body near the goal is never a good idea with Adriano on the field, and he took a pass with tons of room to roam and fired a cannon shot at the 81' mark to ice the game, at which point Inter just played keepaway for the final few minutes to ride out the win.

One thing to note: Julio Cesar played on his friggin' head. I mean, thigh deflections, fingertip dives that deflected out of bounds...I've never seen anything like it.

Stats: Inter (Arsenal)
Shots: 10/5 (16/10)
Penalties 0 (1)
Free Kicks: 2 (3)
Corner Kicks: 1 (7)
Fouls: 4, 3 offside (2, 0 offside)
Yellows: 1, Stankovic (0)
Reds: 0 (1, Senderos)
Possession: 54% (46%)

Good game dean, it's always fun man.

Wow, nine saves for the Inter keeper! Bad luck for the Arsenal.

That's two of the four First Round Cup games done, guys; let's see if we can get the other two done in the next few days so we can move on to the meaty part of the Cup: Round Two with sixteen teams and eight games to be played!

Monaco, Livorno Open Season With Scoreless Draw

Post by Zeppo »

AS Monaco FC 0 : 0 AS Livorno

Monaco welcomed current Champions AS Livorno into the stadium by the sea for both teams' season opener, and the two sides played as if it were a tournament final; very tentatively, afraid to err, and unable to loosen up and go for the unexpected. Livorno had the bulk of the chances, but inopportune turbos in the box gave Monaco goalie Roma the chance he needed to close the angle on the visitors' best chances. Monaco's big man Jan Koller got his head on the end of a few crosses early in the match, but could not seem to find the target.

As the second half wore on, Livorno had two sterling chances that went astray. Roma came up big on both occasions, but on the second one, after he blocked a shot from Luccareli, Roma was way out in no-man's land as the Livorno winger picked up the rebound deep into the corner. His shot towards the empty net from a tight angle and some 25yds was kept from finding it's target only by the cross bar, and it skipped away to the opposite corner where it was cleared by the scrambling defense. Near the very end, Monaco had a great opportunity of their own when Leko found himself in the box with room and time to turn to face the net, only to put the shot well over the bar from about 14yds.

Monaco 0 : 0 Livorno

I forgot to write down the stats.

no bookings
no injuries
