I was scoring runs by the bunches with guess pitch on (with notification). I've since switched it so that guess pitch is still on but I don't receive any notification if I've guessed right or not. I love it this way because it does not feel like a videogame tool anymore but instead more like real baseball. The reward is greater if you guess correctly and get solid wood on it and the penalty for guessing wrong is less. I'm not sure if the ability to guess pitch without notification is new for 07 since I always used it with notification for 06 but it is a brilliant feature in my opinion.
I haven't even tried it this year. Last year I used it for a while but didn't like it much. To me it seemed more like a video-gamey add-on feature that didn't really add to the realism of the game. Just a personal preference.
Plus I thought the payoff was too great when you guessed right, although someone posted in this thread that they thought they toned down the payoff a little if you guessed right in this year's game, which is a good thing.
Just kinda mentally preparing for what pitch you think is coming (usually expecting the fastball, then adjusting to the offspeed stuff) without actually dialing in what you think it will be is realistic enough for me.
I'm using the guess pitch, and it seems way toned down from last year. Last year if I guessed both type and location, 75% of the time it was a home run on HOF difficulty. This year it's been a home run like 5% of the time. I've had better luck hitting dingers with the contact swing, really. I get so revved up when I guess right, I think I tend to mis-time it.
The only thing I think is really cheap about guess pitch is how it impacts stealing... i.e. you can guess fastball and if the zone doesn't flash red it's almost a guaranteed steal with a fast runner.
I've been playing this game on default Allstar sliders with zero changes and it plays brilliantly. Probably the best videogame of baseball ever. If it was on the 360, this forum would be gushing over it like a schoolboy over the head cheerleader.

Play without guess pitch notification for a few games and you know it works. I usually just use it to guess pitch types, especially fastball on good counts or when I'm getting gassed by a flamethrower. If I guess incorrectly, even if I'm in the right zone, the sound of the contact is not solid and the hit is not as hard as it otherwise would be. When I guess right and I'm on the pitch its a very well hit ball.
I was very sceptical of using it without notification since I really like the guess pitch feature. After using it for few games though I love it. If a major league hitter guesses high fastball he doesn't get a dopey red square flashing around him and a bullseye over the plate. I just hit too well with guess pitch notification on in any difficulty level. No notification is a great trade off with still being able to use the guess pitch feature but not making hitting and baserunning too easy.
Thanks for the replies. I only use the guess pitch feature to guess zone and I've had varied results and less strikeouts. It is cheap as if you do guess right, you can start the runner.
I started this game up again for my season and am really enjoying it. I think I'm a little burnt out by 2k7 now so this is the perfect remedy. 2k7 is good, but for me I can't seem to find the right settings to continue my season. Or maybe I just need a break from it.
But I loaded up The show the last few days and all my games have been very fun to play. I am at default All Star and I find no need to adjust any sliders. I appreciate the gameplay more with the show now after weeks playing 2k7.

I don't know about the PSP version, but I set the contact sliders to 0 on the PS2 version and the hit totals are about right.
I think it helps hit variety,as well.

As an old man my reflexes are not what they used to be, and with contact at 0 I end up with a new problem - too many Ks.
I hated guess pitch last year and haven't used it since, but I would imagine using it would also help keep hit totals down since I think that guessing incorrectly results in a substantial penalty on any contact.

I hated guess pitch last year too but this year I am loving it.
One good thing about MLB 07 is that they are pretty good about updating rosters including the PSP. I got the latest for opening day from one of the guys at OS but the game itself should update itself every two weeks or so.

What would MLB 2K7 say if she heard you say that? No wonder your Braves are 2-3... ooooo I went there, ouch.
I would wait for the April 9th roster update.. yes they released an update today, but it wont contain Dice-K, Alex Gordon, or Joe Smith (for that matter) because of the MLBPA rule (have to play in one game)...

Of course he's going to say it's better than the PS2 version. How else would they sell copies to those of use who are perfectly happy with the "old" gen? I'm still betting on the All-Star break.
True, but I take Kolbe's opinion very seriously. His game is the best (my opinion) baseball game of the last 5 years and they pay attention to their fans. May 15th should be a nice gaming day.
I'm with you, Diablo. Hopefully things will be quiet at work on the 15th and I can skip out sick to get a full day in with this game. Should be better than christmas.

I hope it's great, but I agree.. what else is he going to say?
If the franchise mode works, it's already better than the ps2 version.
