DSP Grand Prix Legends League

Guys, didn't see any posting on this and it sounds like interest in the GPL league is losing steam. I should be able to make sure the server is setupin time if anyone was planning on racing, however, I will not be able to join.
I am very interested in all the new found DSP online racing, whether it be random poker nights or a league. I know I sound like a broken record but I am swamped at work and in the middle of trying to sell our house/buy a new one.
Anyway, starting this weekend things should be a little more manageable and I would be available next Wed. for racing. Just let me know if I should put the GPL server up.

Or maybe "COMPETITIVE". I understand how some people will loathe oval racing. That's fine and dandy.
But people must also understand that turning a billion practice laps a week just to get through a race incident-free isn't going to breed competition very well.
To each his own. You'll have those that don't like road racing, those that scoff at oval racing, but as far as racing goes, you'll have a wider range of people that would prefer to be "in the ballpark" on an oval than out to lunch by 10 seconds per lap on a road course.

I used to do 'a billiong practice laps a week' when racing competitively online with NR. Problem was, I kept dozing off at the wheel. Nothing can give you highway hypnosis like putting in practice laps in NASCAR

Don't misinterpret what I'm saying as some kind of allergy to ovals. I just like variety.

I totally understand that. Grand Prix Legends is easily one of the more demanding sims to have ever come out and the gap between those that are good at it and those that are not so good can get very large. I totally understand and agree.
On the flip side, there are lots of sims that straddle that gap. We had some great racing online with TOCA on XBL, nd I've had a lot of fun with various GT car sims online, where the driving isn't nearly as demanding as it is with GPL, and the racing is still fun, and yet you can still swap paint in a corner and race hard wheel to wheel. I guess I just see NR2003 and GPL as extremes. I would love it if we at DSP could have an RFactor or GTR2 league, maybe as a way to have close racing without necessarily having to go to NASCAR ovals every week.
Btw, editorial comment. Since NASCAR is being broadcast in HD and DD5.1 I've been tuning in for the 'experience'. But I'm sorry, that race last week was utter BS. Totally race tampering to save 'the show'. Look, the three guys in front are not going to make it on fuel and they KNOW they aren't. Meanwhile, Montoya back in 5th is GREAT on fuel and IS going to make it. 15 laps left: DEBRIS CAUTION! Everyone gets new fuel and tires. To me, debris cautions are like holding calls in football. You can always find debris if you're looking for it. I think they just didn't want to spoil the 'show' by having their big name stars run outta gas. Hate that.

I wondered why I never saw a rebuttal to that one. And yeah, I can understand running practice laps on an oval to not be everybody's thing. But you have to admit, you have to run far fewer practice laps on an oval in a fixed <fast> setup to get the car pretty much where you need to be for a race than in GPL. In NR2003, you can pretty much apply the handling knowledge you've gained to various tracks. In GPL you can't really apply jack from track to track because it's going to be radically different each time. You could race a 20 lap race in GPL and still not have a clue by the end. For the average Joe, at the end of a 20 lap race in NR2003 they're starting to get a decent handle on the track at a minimum.
But I agree, GTR2/rFactor would be great. I've been playing more GTR2 than anything since I bought the G25, but not enough people have it, and it's kind of the same deal as GPL...road courses breed frustration for a lot of people. When you have guys who may be out to lunch for a bit with what amounts to two turns, what happens when you add 15 more? Just the nature of the beast, I guess. I'm having enough fun in NR2003 to not worry about it, personally. Sucks that you don't enjoy it, though.

Actually, it's not that I don't enjoy it, it's a matter of whether I enjoy it enough to go dig up NR2003, re-install, configure, install add-ons etc. Basically all the hassle of getting myself back into it. Were it an XBox game where I could just pop in the disc and play it would be eaiser to be motivated.
