Downloaded it and played three "matches" (best of 3). In the six games i played i won a grand total of one, ONE, point. They give you Nadal and Federer for the men and Williams and Sharapova for the women. I only played as Federer against Nadal.
In the brief play time, the graphics are stupid good. Played on a clay court and a hard court which looked great and the player models are phenomenal. As for game play, they don't tell you how to hit power shots so i was slicing and top spinning my way around the court while Nadal was blasting winners by me like crazy. All things considered i liked it but i found one GLARING issue that, having not played VT except for on my PSP, i'm not sure if it's been in the game before. There was an awful lot of diving, i mean a LOT of diving, for balls out of reach. This came from both Federer (me) and Nadal (although i rarely had him out of position so there was less of a need on his side). My concern is that it will be the game's way of making up for the ease with which the player can end up out of position. What i mean by this is there were many times when i simply had no chance to get to the rockets launched at me so i ended up on a dive. And the worst part was i would often not only make contact on the dive, but put the ball in play be it from the net, baseline, or in no-man's land.
Again, only three matches so perhaps when i improve this one big negative will decrease as i am quicker to the spots. Many things i like with that one exception.

Yeah, the gameplay in general was fine but those unrealistic dives is what tilted my preference towards topspin 2. They seem to be more dives when a player is at the net and when trying to reach wide shots from the back. But to get up in time and run to the other side and dive again it's unrealistic.AJColossal wrote:I saw a preview of the game on G4 and they commented about the insane amount of diving in the game as well. Sounds kind of annoying.

well WOW is can only describe VT3. The game is absolutley gorgeous. The diving is very annoying and I hope it something that is gone in the retail version. HOWEVER, this is the first VT game I have played and I wonder if its the way I am playing it, sorta like I played Top Spin. Like if you hit A when you are still a good ways from the ball the player would just sorta go get it. Maybe we are pressing the button too soon. I will have to play some more to see but I think its a problem. Damn is it pretty though!!!

Thanks for the VT3 heads up!
One BIG question (which I doubt you can tell from the demo, but)...
Does anyone know if this game will be playable for four different LIVE connections online??? In other words, playing doubles with four different LIVE accounts from four different 360's?
I cannot find that info anywhere in any previews.

You're a funny guy there, Spooky! Funny guy!
If it does happen, I will buy this game, no questions asked. But, I mean, good luck with that.
Yeah that online multiplayer sports stuff was perfected in NHL Rivals and then the code was thrown away to never be implemented again.Zeppo wrote:Spooky wrote:Thanks for the VT3 heads up!

One thing I've noticed about the two demos that were released recently:
UEFA - MUUUUCH improved over Fifa 07...the ball and it's interaction with the players feet is remarkable...even better than WE.
VT3 - The reason the guys are diving so much is that you have to time the hit right. If you press the direction button BEFORE you are pressing the shot button, they will stop and dive. If you let go of the direction until you press the shot button (then get on the direction hard to control the angle of the shot), then you'll be fine and you won't dive. That doesn't help the AI diving, but it'll prevent you from diving all over the place. I know that probably doesn't make any sense, but I can't explain it much better than that.

I agree on the UEFA demo db. I noticed the ball interaction immediately and was pleasantly surprised.
As for the VT demo, well, to be blunt I think it sucks real bad. It's a definite step back in the fun department from VT 1 and 2 and even VT on the PSP. No way in hell I'm getting it now.

I am a patient boy.
I wait, I wait, I wait, I wait.
My time is water down a drain.

Just played a bunch of games of the demo. I wasn't too impressed for the game that is supposed to be the holy-grail of tennis games. Only 3 diifferent shots??? Topspin, Lob and Slice...that's it! Very arcade-ish I thought, with the blurring ball effect, the high speed of the ball movement and all the diving . The graphics look real nice though (Sharapova is hot!), but I think Top Spin 2 is way better. Also, the AI is insanely hard to beat. They get to everything and it's virtually impossible to lob anything over their head.
Is this the same game franchise that was so praised for the dreamcast?

Really liked the UEFA demo also. Not too interested in the whole "card collecting" concept though, but maybe kids will like that. I thought the gameplay was very good though and may pick this one up. I am kind of soured on this year's version of WE on the 360. The gameplay just feels
"different" and worse to me than WE's of the past. I can't put my finger on it, but the game just isn't as engaging or "organic" as it used to be.

I really enjoyed UEFA, too. I haven't found a lot of information about the title though--is it only the teams that qualified for this year's tournaments? The descriptions seem to indicate some multi-season mode, but what is it?
While I'm really enjoying the WE league, my travel schedule is going to make WE a single player game for a while and I am really struggling with some of the imbalance playing against the CPU. Not sure I'll buy a second soccer game within two months, but at least it seems like their might be an intriguing alternative.
And I didn't care for the VT3 demo, either.

VT3 WILL support 4-Player online play (4 different XBox 360's in 4 different locations) as confirmed in OXM. However, that's not enough to save this game for me...
After playing a good bit of the demo, I think the game pretty much stinks. It's over-the-top arcade style just isn't appealing. Too many dives, and every shot is returned in bounds. The only way to get power on your shots is to be in perfect position and hold down your selected swing button long before the ball arrives, which is difficult considering the 'jittery' player movement controls and the need to aim the ball with the same left-stick control. You find yourself pushing left to send it down the left-line only to end up with your player moved left and out of position and forced to make a diving lob return.
Nice graphics, ho-hum gameplay. I'll pass unless the full game gets rave reviews herein.

And I agree with all of your statments...which is a real bummer as I was thinking that this would be a "no brainer" if it had 4 player online, now I am not so sure.

Same here - I'm confused. I do remember reading that quite a few of the sides in this year's final are unlicensed, which seems pretty idiotic. And I still can't get past the fact that Barca's home strip is purple in the demo. What's up with that? Plus I also remember that the FIFA 07 demo was way more promising than the final product. I just can't see giving EA another $60, for a total of $180 this year, for what adds up to one marginal experience at best.Dave wrote:I really enjoyed UEFA, too.
