I just picked up GH 1 after someone brought it over for Xmas. It's all about how loud you have the music. If you have it at normal TV listening setting the game is very good. If you blast up the volume it's incredible.

I wasn't sure I wanted to get GH since its coming out for the 360 but I'm assuming GH1 songs will not be on the 360 version. Even if that's the case, they may put some of the GH2 features in the old GH1 songs but I think we'll just get a few different songs and downloadable extras.

Having just got it today and some bum guitar they had at GS, I suck bad. Only 82% on easy playing No One Knows.

Anyone fashion up a strap, because I can see how someone could put their shoulder out playing this thing. Oh ya, the wireless PS2 controller is a must. I have mine on order from barnesandnoble (it's just gamestop but with my bn discount).

I got this as a gift for Xmas as well. Really enjoy the game, and like the songs on GH1 more than GH2. Only problem is my kid broke the whammy bar on the guitar but no big deal. Game is still very fun to play.

I thought "Santa" was going to get this for me for xmas, but not to be :(
I will probably pick it up very soon for myself. I just have so many games to get to right now. I still have sitting on my shelf unplayed: Dead Rising, TW07, TDU. Getting GH2 right now would just complicate things. I also have games on the PS2 and the PC....not to mention my addition to Geometry Wars.

Maybe I can hold out until it comes out for the 360. Anyone know when that will be?

We got my 9 year old daughter GH2 for the PS2 along with the wireless guitar. She loves it.

My only issue is that I'm not that fond of the groups/music that were chosen. It's all metal, hard rock stuff.

Last time I checked, Mark Knopfler and Eric Clapton played guitar, too :)

I find it hilarious that soooo many people just got this game, and isn't it a bit old? I just got it myself and am completely addicted. Had to buy a PS2 (again) just to play it.

My first sitting, I tromped through on medium without a break (felt like an MMO-level addiction). Now I'm attempting to go through on hard, but with quite a few failures. My kids love it, my boss and his son just got it...hell, even my wife plays it.

Amazing game.

Actually, I thought they did a good job of mixing the artists up. Cheap Trick, Matthew Sweet, The Police, The Pretenders, Dick Dale and The Stooges all make for a nice change of pace. "Sultans of Swing" or "Layla" would have been awesome editions, though.

My brother brought this with him and I managed to finish the medium level with 3-4 stars on all the songs (I had started a career at Thanksgiving). It's one of the best video games ever. I can't wait to get the 360 version and try the game on hard. Although watching my brother play is a great spectator sport -- he got five stars on every song on expert. 8O

You hear about the MLB player who was ordered to stop playing it because of wrist injuries suffered because of it interfering with his pitching?

Go with GH1. It's not as heavy as GH2 and I like the songs in it more since they are more classic rock : Clapton, Black Sabbath, ZZTop, etc.......

I will own both when GH2 comes out for the 360. GH1 is going to take some time for me to get through.

I just received the Red Octane wireless GH guitar. It's a little cheapish but works great with the game.

I bought the flying V from gamestop used to hold me over until this one arrived. Stay far away from it. It doens't work with GH 2 and either mine is busted or it's not that great but the whammy bar is toast.

I'm on medium and having a tough time. They did a great job with the game. Even though it's nothing more than follow the button on the screen they pulled it off brilliantly. For as big of a success GH 1 and 2 are, I wonder why Wii or other games don't take a risk like GH.

I actually ended up getting GH2 and am loving it so far. I managed to beat the game on Medium difficulty in a few hours, which surprised me since I've never played guitar before. I was still playing it even today though it's fun as hell, and I'm not a huge metal fan.

I think I may pick up GH1 as well. I was thinking of getting another guitar but I might as well wait until GH2 comes out for 360. It would be amazing if somebody made a device to make the PS2 guitar compatible with the 360, but I won't count on it.

Xbox magazine reviewed the 360 version, and there was some info in it that may or may not be known here.

Apparently, there will be leaderboards, but no online play. This kind of sucks, but the leaderbaords will be fun to compete on.

Also, there will be 8 extra songs not seen on the PS2 version, the chance to download more songs on Marketplace, and the guitar itself has a jack to work with future peripherals. They mentioned things like an effects pedal being released in the future. SWEET!!!

EB Games is showing a release date of 4/3 at $90, and the additional controller being $60. Kind of steep, but you get what you pay for, and GH2 is a very high quality product.

Wasn't really considering the 360 version after buying the game and a controller on the PS2, but it sounds like they're planning cool stuff for the 360 version that I don't want to miss.

As the release date approaches, I have a few questions.

Having never played the guitar before except for strumbing the strings like I pretend to know what I'm doing, what kind of enjoyment will I get out of this? $85-$90 enjoyment?

How difficult in your opinion will it be for someone like myself to get a hang of it? I never have even played GH on the PS2.

How is the replay value?

Do I have to worry about my five year old son busting the guitar, if he just wants to just pretend he's playing to the songs? He absolutely loves guitars and has two acoustic guitars, albeit with a few strings broken on each of them. I know he'll love the look and feel of the guitar, even if it doesn't have strings.

Thanks.

I definitely got that kind of enjoyment out of the PS2 version, and I've never played the guitar before.

I played it on Easy for about a half hour, and then once I got a hang of what exactly to do I started on Medium and never looked back. It took a few weeks of solid playing to beat all of the medium songs on five stars, and then I took it to hard. I played hard for a few days and then moved onto Expert because the leap between the two didn't seem that tough. I don't think you'll have too much difficulty moving up in the ranks, but it'd be a good idea to run through the tutorial, I didn't and later on realized a lot of little moves are easier after doing the tutorial.
How is the replay value?
Extremely high, at least for me and my friends. You will start on Easy (probably) and then gradually play through all of the songs until you can beat them on Expert at four or five stars, if you can even do that. Plus if somebody else you know has another guitar, or if you buy another one, the multiplayer is very fun as well.

Add in the fact that you'll get a ton more songs made available to you with downloadable content, and leaderboards, and the replay value is even higher.
Do I have to worry about my five year old son busting the guitar, if he just wants to just pretend he's playing to the songs?
The PS2 guitar was pretty solid and the 360 one is supposed to be more solid still, so I don't think you should have any problems. But other guys with kids should be able to answer your question better.

I have the PS2 versions of Guitar Hero and Guitar Hero 2 with 2 wireless guitars. My 4 year old always pretends she's playing with it, and hammers on the strumbar and fret buttons...it's still solid. My 7 year old has beaten them on medium and is currently working on Hard mode...about halfway through I'd guess. But the kids can mash on those guitars and they stay pretty solid. They're not junk, they can hold up.

The way I thrashed on those things during my multiple play-throughs is testament enough. I went through both of them on Medium, Hard, and Expert, and some of the solos really have you slamming around on the fret keys and wailing back and forth on the strumbar. It's still in perfect working condition, despite a constant play list whenever my older kids are at my house.
