But it sucks even more to be an Akron fan. Zips finished 26-7 with an RPI of 65 and didn't even get an invitation to the f*cking NIT!
Duke as a No. 6 seed is an outrage. Just further proof that Duke is the Notre Dame of college basketball -- perpetual most-favored nation status by the media and NCAA.

Amen. I'm an Akron grad. The banked-in 3-pointer at the buzzer, plus the clock controversy, was a punch to the gut. (That said, I believe he would've gotten the shot off even if the clock started on time. Credit to Miami - they played Akron tough 3 times this year, and won 2 of them. Plus, Charlie Coles is a class guy, and a very likable guy.) The NCAA tourney at-large bid was a pipe dream, but not getting an NIT bid was a kick to the nuts.
Akron is #7 in the "mid-major" top 20. Akron is the ONLY team in that top 20 not playing in the post season.
I'm glad college basketball doesn't have all the controversy, like college football.No-one ever gets the shaft in college basketball because there is a tournament,if Dick Vitale is to be believed.
I'm sure a tournament in college football wouldn't leave anybody deserving home, either.Instead of computers and polls,a committee would choose the teams and there couldn't be any controversy with that, could there?

You're kidding, right?
At least there are 65 teams with a chance to win the basketball title on the floor in the postseason. Compare that with two that have a chance on the field in football in the postseason.
College hoops has 64 meaningful games in its postseason. College football has one.
Nice try.

Read the first line again PK...he's just saying that college hoops leaves people out, just like football. He was being facetious. Anytime Vitale comes up, you can just go ahead and assume that.

What db said...
Syracuse really needs to be play someone of consequence outside of the Big East once in a while, too.
Exactly what I was thinking when I saw that Stanford was losing by 26 midway through the first half. There were some idiots at ESPN talking about Stanford being a team that could go deep in the tournament. Yeah, right.
pk500 wrote:Nice to see Stanford showed it belonged in The Dance, losing by 20 to Louisville. What a f*cking joke.
Still bitter? As a Syracuse fan, you bet I am. Syracuse lost by five AT Louisville this season.
Take care,

Well, that one the last spot, or second to last spot to be revealed on Sunday. And when Stanford was shown, I was really scratching my head. I was fully expecting to see Syracuse or Drexel. Stanford getting in over those two teams was a disgrace.
Ah, the first two days of the tournament are shaking out nicely when it comes to fulfilling my vindictive desires:
Stanford -- the team that stole a spot from Syracuse got blasted by 20 by Louisville, which beat Syracuse by only five at home this season.
Duke -- the most overrated team in the nation (a No. 6 seed, blow me!) loses in the first round. Does Coach K still "love his kids" now?
Notre Dame -- loses to Winthrop in the first round on St. Patrick's Day Eve. Mike Brey and his band of merry marching turtlenecks can return to South Bend and sing "Glory Days" in a bar, yearning for the ghosts of Kelly Tripucka and Adrian Dantley.
This bliss is softening my bitterness about Syracuse's snub a little bit.

It's rare that I'm prophetic in anything in sports, but you must admit I nailed this one.
ND loses in the first round, and Falls was 2-for-10 from three-point range today against Winthrop.

How disappointing. I watched a lot of the Irish this year and that was one of their most uninspiring games of the year.
Falls and Carter, their seniors no less, laid a large egg. Brey's strategy down the stretch has always been a sore point. Nice comeback to take the lead, then they can't finish.
ScoopBrady wrote:That was some horseshit officiating in the Illinois - VA Tech game. 3 non-calls in the last minute-and-a-half gave Illinois no chance.
Agree 100%. I thought Duke was playing with the non-calls. Am I bitter? Not really because the team did quite a bit with the level of talent, injuries and some other self inflicted stupidity, but the Illini have been perceived for years for being rough, since the crypt keeper, I mean Lute Olson cried about how rough they play back in '01 prior to the game where 6 Illinois players fouled out and Az shot something like 56 free throws.
