OT: March Madness discussion

Post by sportdan30 »

There's already been some pretty good games during the conference tournaments. UCLA goes down to California, and after their loss to Washington, they should fall out of the number 1 seed.

Texas A&M falls to Okie State, and their chances of a number 1 seed has been thrown out the window.

The Jayhawks, who are flying under the radar IMO are deserving of the number 1 seed and have played like it the past nine games. But, will they be the first number one seed to lose to a 16?

Is Illinois in or out? Their offense is pretty non existent. If they beat Indiana, they're in no doubt.

Ohhh the Dukies baby. Dickie V can't even defend them now. I can see them ousted in round one or two. At least I hope.

Is Memphis for real, or do they just play in a weak conference?

I gotta think the Big 12 gets five teams in the dance. KU, Texas A&M, Texas, K-State, and Texas Tech. Maybe Okie State.........with another win perhaps.

Texas is my sleeper if you can call it that. Durant is amazing, as is Augustin. They have potential to reach the Final Four.

I freakin' love this time of year! How are your teams fairing?

Is Baylor for real? Ok, so they beat Mizzou by 20 or so, but they're now leading Texas by 18 at the half. Durant with only five points, but we've seen what he can do in one half.

The Kevin Durant show got a late start, but what a showing. Baylor was running on fumes the last 15 minutes of the second half.

Durant is on fire again, but here come the Jayhawks! What an impressive run to pull within five at the break. Down 19 at one point. I love college basketball!

Sucks to be a Syracuse fan today, as the Orange should be in the Dance based on wins down stretch over Villanova, Marquette and Georgetown.

But it sucks even more to be an Akron fan. Zips finished 26-7 with an RPI of 65 and didn't even get an invitation to the f*cking NIT!

Duke as a No. 6 seed is an outrage. Just further proof that Duke is the Notre Dame of college basketball -- perpetual most-favored nation status by the media and NCAA.

Take care,

K-State should be in, Texas Tech out.

That does suck about Akron. They deserve to be in.

Mizzou didn't even get a NIT bid. LOL.

But Syracuse didn't leave upstate NY until January. Whom did Syr play in their out of conference schedule? I think they're supposed to be in before Arkansas and Illinois. Syr and Drexel both are feeling the pain of the NCAA.

Always got to throw a jab in there about ND. :)

Oh well, ND knocked Syracuse out of the tourney, so all is good.

I am not upset about ND's sixth seed as that is about right, just don't understand how Winthrop, who ended the year ranked in the top 25, as an 11th seed.

The out-of-conference was pretty weak. But I don't understand the whole "no away games in December" argument.

SU finished tied for fifth in the Big East and was strong down the stretch, with a blowout win over Georgetown just two weeks ago and victories over Nova and Marquette. It won 10 games in the Big East, one of the toughest conferences in the country. Nova finished behind it and is dancing.

Meanwhile, Duke stumbled down the stretch, lost early in the ACC, was 22-10 just like SU and is a No. 6 seed. Granted, Duke had more quality wins, but those f*ckers are a 6 and Syracuse is out?

The Orange got screwed.

Take care,
PK

Of course. ND and Turtleneck Boy aren't going anywhere in the tournament, so I'm not really concerned. The second Falls' stroke is off, ND is done.

Carter is a nice player, though.

I think it was the mid-majors that got the snub this year. Only 6 at large bids if I'm not mistaken. Overall, some questionable decisions were made...

Drexel wins at Syracuse, at Nova, and at Creighton...yet are left out. Stanford gets annihilated by Air Force earlier in the season, yet gets the nod over them. Syracuse wins 10 games in the Big East, arguably the deepest conference in the nation, yet a Arkansas team that finished 7-9 in the SEC gets the bid.

IMO, Illinois and Arkansas should be out, with Syracuse and Drexel in.

ND finished fourth, SU was tied for 5th. Again, ND finished ahead of SU.

I revised. And to make you feel better, I never said ND didn't deserve a bid. The Irish most certainly do. They had a nice season by their standards.

I agree. Syracuse got hosed. With their basketball tradition and certainly the respect they deserve, I was shocked when their name wasn't called. Six teams out of a weak Big Ten is terrible. Shoot, getting to watch MSU here in Michigan about 10-15 times this year, I would say they didn't even deserve a bid, let alone Purdue and Iowa.

PK,

Throw your upstate NY support behind Albany.

My brother is the assistance coach there and we're thrilled to see him back in the big dance for second straight year; especially after giving Connecticut a real run in the 16-1 seed game last year.

I heard them say numerous times that conf tourny games count towards your conference standings... so Arkansas would be 10-10 in the #1 RPI conference. I think they deserved to be in.

I am pretty disappointed in the seedings this year. Things that certainly stand out:

Big Ten got 6 teams in the tournament. Three weeks ago, there was talk of maybe only 3 getting in this year. I'm OK with 5 getting in this year, but Illinois or Purdue, one of them should be out.

Yeah, why the hell is Stanford in the tournament?

Texas Tech and K-State was a toss-up. Only 1 deserved to make it in. I would have probably given the nod to K-State, but I don't think either would have made it far anyways.

Drexel not getting in the tournament is a crime. Hopefully they make some noise in the NIT.

Duke getting a 6 seed is absolutely ludicrous. They played horrible in February and March. Best seed I expected them to get was an 8. Winthrop certainly deserves better than an 11 seed too. Going to be a very tough game for Notre Dame.

Early upsets I can see happening: Davidson over Maryland, Holy Cross over Southern Illinois, VCU over Duke, New Mexico St. over Texas, & Albany over Virginia. Wouldn't surprise me if 3 of those 5 possible upsets happen.

I'll actually pay attention to the NIT this year. My two teams are in it: Syracuse (hometown) and Marist (alma mater).

I remember the last time UGA/Syracuse played.. it was 96 in the sweet 16 and John Wallace hit a "3" with his toe on the line at top of they key at the end of the game.... :|

I believe the game went to double OT.. great game, bad result.
