I guess I'm just a little confused by what makes for good games Web. I mean what were the scores of those 5 games? For me, I need to see a larger sample before I go to sliders. I won't touch sliders until I've played at least 20 games. I can have one game where it seems like I'm unhittable only to get shelled the next time. I can even have 3 great games in a row followed by 3 bad games. I don't want close games every time. I like kicking someone's ass 11-3 just as much as getting it kicked by the same score. I don't expect every game to be 2-1 duels or 8-7 thrillers. I like to have a mix. I'm just glad that I'm not nearly as good as you are at hitting in baseball games (a bit of a hacker
actually) because that helps me enjoy the game. I do need to learn patience at the plate though. It just seems like every time I lay off a pitch and it's borderline it gets called a strike so I feel I need to swing at everything.

I am a patient boy.
I wait, I wait, I wait, I wait.
My time is water down a drain.

I'm going to have to guess a little bit, Scoop, but if I recall correctly they were 4-3 (win), 8-6 (loss), 7-3 (loss), 5-2 (win), and 4-1 (loss). But although those scores were much better than I had been getting (most of my games I am double digits in runs and hits), they weren't my sole measure of what made the games good. Other things I was seeing that I hadn't been previously:ScoopBrady wrote:I guess I'm just a little confused by what makes for good games Web. I mean what were the scores of those 5 games? -More runs generated by hits other than homers, and overall less HRs, for myself and for the cpu
-More CPU issued walks
-User issued K's, *without* completely nullifying the cpu offense! (Very big for me!
-Foul balls!
-Losses!
I'm not why you sure you think we disagree when it comes to sliders, though. I'm not modifying what I think are little things, I only touch things that make themselves known over time, or are too blatant to ignore! For example, through a dozen games I was averaging 5 hrs a game. I didn't wait for 12 games before I started tweaking, though, because three games in a row of 5, 7 , and 6 hrs showed me something was wrong farly quickly. Likewise, when I had 4 user Ks in 3 full games, something was up, and I noticed fairly quickly.
On the other hand, I only tweaked the outfield speed down a notch very recently, because unlike several of you other guys I wasn't seeing any particular overabundance of running or jumping catches. I think I have only had 2 hrs robbed against me in some 20 games, in fact. I also didn't touch any of the infield stuff, throwing, instinct, or fielding because other than an occasional glitch I'm really not having much difficulty fielding at all, now, and I haven't seen the constant double plays bugging some of the rest of you.
I really do only worry about the stuff I notice in game. In this particular title, there was a lot of that early on.
Well old man, post your settings!Bill_Abner wrote:They are a necessary evil. Just looking at MLB 2K7, if you couldn't change:
Pitch Speed
Outfielder Run Speed
Outfielder Arm Strength
Baserunnng Speed
CPU Take Pitch (both Ball and Strike) frequency
CPU Throw Ball
CPU/Human Hitting Power
CPU Throw Aggression
CPU/Human Pitcher Fatigue
To me, these are the key slider edits and if you couldn't mess with that stuff you'd have a significantly different game. I still think MLB 2K7 is very rough around the edges but if I couldn't tweak some of its basic gameplay elements, I'd have already shelved it. As is, I'm playing it pretty much daily despite its issues, thanks in part to the ability to edit the things I felt were goofy out of the box. So, yeah, people that edit sliders can in fact play and enjoy a game.

In all seriousness, yes, the first part of that is probably correct. Most of the shots made it over the wall by a large margin. I'll probably start to see more of them now that I think I finally have my hitting toned down.

Sooo, I guess the question we would love to hear the answer to is what makes you love the Ps3 version so much as compared to the 360 version you played and HATED? I am not at ALL trying to turn this into a debate of which console is better but seriously, how different can the 2 versions be.black_dynamite wrote:Well since everyone else has posted their opinions of the game I should do the same.
I picked the PS3 version of the game the day it came out from EB. I was definitely skeptical about the game since I played the 360 version of the game and absolutely HATED it. The game was a complete mess and I didn't think that 2K7 would deliver. However seeing all the previews and screenshots of the game I really wanted to try it out so I caved in and traded in some games and added some cash and got the game.
The verdict, I am really, really happy that I got this game. I am so incredibly addicted to this game it's not even funny. You'd probably have to beat the crap out of me to get me to stop playing this game. I've always liked baseball games but I have never been this addicted to a baseball game in my life. I can't believe this is the same team that released the crapfest that was 2K6. The differences in the two games are night and day.
The visuals of the game are absolutely amazing. So many of the players are dead on comparisons to their real life counterparts such as with the accessories they wear, the look of the players themselves as well as their mannerisms such as their pre-bat ritutals, the way they swing the bat as well as their home run celebrations. I really can't believe how much they were able to do in one year. It just goes to show just how amazing 2K Sports really are compared to their competition.
This is without question the best baseball game I have ever played. The scary part about it is this is only year one in a three year plan to improve the series. It's only going to get better next year and the year after. As baseball enthusiasts we have a lot to be excited about.
Thanks

I'm fairly certain he was talking about 2k6 when he referred to a 360 version...he just forgot to put it in there. See how he said "I didn't think 2k7 would deliver"?SEMINOLE wrote:Sooo, I guess the question we would love to hear the answer to is what makes you love the Ps3 version so much as compared to the 360 version you played and HATED? How do you check swing?
I am tallying 10k's a game because it seems to be an all or nothing thing. The check swing is too sensitive. Either that or my 360 controller is going?

It's ridiculously sensitive. Basically, if you let go of the stick, you are screwed. You pretty much have to pull it back before the stick reaches the center, so you basically have to keep your finger on the stick the whole time.JRod wrote:How do you check swing?

I've managed it all of twice, and those times I was ready to power swing. (Hence my finger still on the stick)

DB is right on the money. I was talking about 2K6 for the 360. I'll be the first to admit if you could any of the two versions the 360 is the way to go due to the fact that the 360 has a better framerate compared to the PS3 from what I've heard and that they have player specific hairstyles that the PS3 version does not have. Either version you get however you're in for a great game of baseball this year. 2K7 is seriously off the chain this year.dbdynsty25 wrote:I'm fairly certain he was talking about 2k6 when he referred to a 360 version...he just forgot to put it in there. thanks for clarifying that. I re-read your post a few times but it just didn't read that way to me. I guess might be the first year I buy a 2k baseball game. I tried it during my MVP days and it was the worst baseball game I ever played. I believe it was 2K5 which was MVP's last year. We will see I guess, the demo didn't do much for me

I turned off two games in frustration last night when in each, line drives that should have been caught sort of went through my outfielder, which strangely wasn't scored an error and didn't really have the appearance of an error either... the fielders just sort of stood there. Anyway, many runs ensued. I think the four cups of coffee I drank at work were stressing me out, 'cause all of a sudden everything was making me angry. The fact that if a ball bounces off the wall and travels perpendicular to your viewpoint, the zoomed lens effect of the fielding camera makes it impossible to know if the ball is five feet in front of your fielder or five feet behind him. It was like keystone cops, people running past balls, running into eachother and falling down, etc. And I still continue to strike out incessantly. It's like they engineered a game specifically to exploit my particular neuro-motor deficiencies. I have an amazing gift for geting leadoff doubles and then striking out with the next three batters.

Well, i was going to post some sliders that i've been working on over the last week, more to get some thoughts and impressions on what you guys think than to post them as gospel, but in all the "I hate slider" talk i think i will reserve posting them. If anyone is willing to input them and give me their impressions let me know and i can PM them to you.
As someone said, "perfect" sliders for everyone just don't exist because of our different skill levels, but a few of the things i've seen with the ones i'm using that others have shown concern about, among other things, are:
-Fewer home runs
- the ability to draw 2-4 walks per game
- hit variety
- scoring runs "the old fashioned way"--i.e. not just off the long ball
Anyway, if someone is looking to try them let me know and i can send them to you.

i couldnt agree more.. game to me is a bit of a letdown..MizzouRah wrote:Bill Harris's take: http://dubiousquality.blogspot.com/
1- cant fix franchise/GM/season lineups without heavy edits
2- players STILL play wrong positions
3- too many big names being traded
4- injured stars kept in minors
Sorry, I didnt purchase this game to play ONLY exhibition modes or online.. guess since this is the only baseball game on the 360, I am stuck with it
Slumber, Kush & T2 should not be on probation for the baseball game.. they need capital punishment

I will say that I am unhappy with the current implementation of sliders in games. It's great to have that kind of control, but I hate the process. I wish they would simplify it, like:
CPU Throws Balls: Frequent Often Average Some None
Maybe underneath that you could have the tune with 1-100. But the way most games are, you don't know what tweaking will do. What's the difference between 40 and 50? Well, I have to change it and then get my f***in lab coat out and compare. Oh, and I better not change these other three sliders, because that might contaminate my results. Screw that.
I am fine with changing a few things that I see, but if a game doesn't at least come close to what I want on one of the default levels, it's outta here. Thankfully, I think 2k7 does come pretty close on All-Star for me.

Why not start a 'slider' thread? I may post mine after another day or so as well. I haven't moved things in like 10 games now, and I'm getting (for me) really good results!RallyMonkey wrote:Well, i was going to post some sliders that i've been working on over the last week, more to get some thoughts and impressions on what you guys think than to post them as gospel, but in all the "I hate slider" talk i think i will reserve posting them. I was going to try these from OS tonight and was wondering if anyone has: http://forums.operationsports.com/vBull ... p?t=200630
I'm starting to get frustrated myself with this game as I'm having more fun playing The Show on our ps2 - but I'm hoping I can find some sliders that can do something with some of these issues I'm now seeing more and more. I can play The Show on All Star defaults and although the hit total is high, I'm having fun, believeable games.
Mizz....you had so much love for 2K7 the past week and now this???
I know what you mean though. I takes several days of playing 2K7 to
see the weak points come thru. To me, the major difference is just the tension of the pitcher/batter matchups in The Show is so much better than in 2K7. You will get many more deep counts and fouled off strike 3 pitches, etc. And the ball of the bat seems to go where it should in The Show, where in 2K7 it feels more random.
It is confusing though, because 2K7 is so much fun to play. I am hoping we get our league going soon so I can see how that pans out. If online play is fun, then that may be a clincher for me. I don't really want to keep both games, but since The Show07 is only $27 for me to keep from gamefly, I might keep both.

Yeah, I tried his and maybe it's my skill, but something doesn't feel right.. meaning I don't do very well.
I miss the foul balls IMMENSELY when playing MLB 2k7 - it's HUGE imo. The pace is faster in MLB 2k7, but I agree with Jack, the batter - pitcher confrontation is still done very well in The Show. I had like 14 pitches against Beltran last night, where he was just getting a piece of my well placed pitches and then to finally K him was a great feeling.
