I disagree. I played last year's MLB2k6 and 2k7 feels exactly the same to me....just looks prettier. The pitching system and hitting system are EXACTLY the same. Only major differences are that they ruined the fielding camera. It's basically the same game as last year. Funny thing is, last year's game got horrible reviews here and on the game sites, whereas this year's game is getting great reviews here and on the game sites. I dont' get it. Is everyone just satisfied to have a next-gen "looking" game? The actual gameplay in the field is almost identical.

Well, I owned MLB2k6 for the 360 last year and I can definitively say 2k7 is not EXACTLY the same. If you played last year's version then why don't you know how to use batter's eye and the swing stick? The fielding camera was worse last year than it is this year too.

Yeah, there's somewhat of a deja vu feeling playing sometimes, but it plays just *right*. MLB 2K7 has a lot of promise, but the franchise has another year of tweaking to do for my tastes.
Sounds good AJ. I think I'll buy/rent it today. 2K7 is a solid step for 2KSports but The Show still has the edge...IMO. I haven't played the demo of The Show yet but from what I have read it sounds great.

Never played last year's game... but it's refreshing to me.

Yeah, there's something to that, but because of the crash bug and the absolute dearth of player likenesses in 2K6, I never really played that one... so a lot of this stuff is new to me. I assume it's that way for a lot of people. Though I KNOW that fielding has been improved from last year (though it still has some ways to go).

I didn't play it much and forgot how to use the hitting system (I'm old...remember :D ) But the hitting and pitching systems remain
unchanged from last year.

I meant MLB 2k7. I plated the show all last year, so MLB 2k7 is quite refreshing.

And for a 360 owner who doesn't own a PS2 or refuses to pay out the wazoo for a PS3, I'm extremely happy with 2K7 this year. Refreshing is definitely the right word after the complete mess I played last year.

Still have yet to see my outfielder fall down by running up and grabbing the ball off the ground near the wall. That alone is one HUGE improvement in the fielding.

I am basing this soley on both demos, but there really is no contest as to which game plays a more solid, well rounded game of hardball..The Show.
2K7 might end up being the more "fun" game...I need more time with it. But The Show just plays out beautifully in front of your eyes.....the batter/pitcher matchups are wonderful....lots of high counts, fouled off pitches and huge hit variety. The trajectory of the batted balls...perfect.
The movement and speed of the pitches.....again, perfect. The batting camera is perfect. You can't say the same about all these items with 2K7.
After you hit a ball in The Show...you admire and watch it fall in the field. In 2K, you are squinting, trying to find the damn ball and even then, it's hard to tell if its a grounder or a line drive.

Again...this is based on both demos. I will give both games more time when I get both full copies. The Show is the same wonderful game that got all kinds of praise last year, but with some subtle improvements.
2K7 is basically the same game that was heavilly critisided last year, without the crash bugs and updated graphics. They both seem like solid games and it isn't easy to decide so far. I might play one for 2 month's and then the other.

Right now I'm a real happy camper with The Show for PSP and 2K7 on the 360. The Show is for the sim nut in me. It plays a fantastic game of baseball and the controls translate very well to the PSP. It's great to just kick back and put my feet up and play a game of The Show. 2K7 is for the graphics whore in me. I'm normally not much into "gimmicks" but I find myself enjoying things like the baserunning, hitter's eye, cather calling the game, payoff pitching, throwing from the cather's view, etc just as a nice change of pace. I REALLY like the in-game saves.

Since I really don't play the shooters, there really isn't another game I plan on purchasing for the next few months besides Tiger on Wii, and I have some traveling for work coming up I think I'm going to enjoy both games at the same time without dwelling too much on the weaknesses. Unless a dreaded "gamekiller" pops up.

The Show was a GREAT game last year, but MLB 2k7 has so many little, engrossing things going for it, imo.

I love arguing calls, going out to the mound to settle my pitcher down, and the challenge of pitching on all star level is so addicting.

I feel it has less control than The Show, but I like how it focuses on the pitcher/batter and fielding is not as involved as The Show, but does what it's there to do. Pitching to a team like Boston scares the sh*t out of me, unless Carpenter is on the mound.. even then, one bad pitch and it's crushed.

I'm not crowning MLB 2k7 as the greatest console baseball game of all time, but it's damn fun. As soon as the next roster set comes out (opening day), I'll really be able to test it as I begin a season.

Couldn't agree more Jack. I popped MLB 06 The Show (PS2) in last night just as a comparison to 2K7 (360) and its night and day...to me at least. I had a great exhibition going between the A's and Tribe. I recently switched to "Classic" pitching and its sweet...more user walks. I just ran to Walwart and grabbed MLB 07 The Show on my lunch (flipping tru the manual now :)) and can't wait to get home and see the new features, hit variety, etc. (I didn't play the demo). Looking forward to it. I was glad to read Sully's impressions last night about no lag on the PS3.

BTW, I get all warm inside thinking of how good the PS3 version could be. If its as good looking as 2K7 on the 360 and plays like its PS2 bretheren = paradise.

That's still a HUGE "if" though. I still think they might be having some issues with the ps3 version, it just doesn't seem right that there is NOTHING about this game anywhere.

I expect it to be like Madden was its first year on the 360.

The Show is my sim baseball game for this year. I'll probably actually play all 162 games in a season for it. Game just feels right.

2k7 is really growing on me right now. I agree that it's a refreshing change of pace. I am getting a good variety of games in now and I love the presentation. I am also getting use to the fielding cameras after doing some tweaking.

I am having fun with both games.

But what makes you think that? They've said it's basically a PS2 port with upgrades to graphics and more animations included. That's the exact opposite of the stripped down Madden that was supposedly built from the ground up.

I have a few "theories" on why there has been so little info on the PS3 version. Showcasing the PS3 version on all the regular sites might take away from PS2 sales. Not a huge deal, but possible. Also, there is some big event next week (GDC?) that Sony is going to be unveiling numerous things. Rumor has it that Sony slotted alot of $$ for development of The Show on the PS3. Perhaps our first look at The Show will be unveiled at the above mentioned show. A Sony rep already dropped a hint that "PS3 owners will be very happy next week" referring to some major announcement. Probably a big firmware update. If I were a betting man I'd put some money on MLB info/media being unveiled at this show. Just a hunch.

I guess the statement I made isn't really the right thing to say. I meant same gameplay, prettier game. I do remember reading Madden was also stripped down.

How many with both a PS2 and 360 prefer 2K7 to The Show?

Well I prefer 2K7 to the demo of the show, without a doubt. No questions about it.

They both have their charms, no question. The Show has smoother gameplay, so that's the winner for me.
