4. When I tried to put my new pitcher in the game at the top of an inning it kept putting Juan Uribe in at pitcher. I tried several times to put in my new pitcher and Juan Uribe kept taking the mound. I started trying other pitchers who weren't even warmed up and there was Uribe ready to take over the game. I pressed the d-pad to view the available infield shifts and, sure enough, Uribe was not at shortstop. In fact, nobody was. When I backed out of the infield shift screen Juan Uribe was now in a Jesus Christ pose. Next thing I know, the audio cuts out and the game locks up. This was after coming back from 3-0 against the Twinkies.
I had an odd occurance with a pitching change as well. I was playing Cubs vs Reds. I pitch hit for the pitcher in the 7th, after the inning ended it says Murton is pitching do you want to change that. So i said yes.
Go into the menu and try and bring in the guy in the bullpen and i get a message, "pitcher must pitch one full inning before being changed" I was like WTF, I tried every other pitcher same error.
Then I thought maybe I clicked somethign wrong, but even if I did. This is not a rule to my knowledge. If you bring in a new pitcher he just has to throw a single pitch right?
Either way i had to pitch a half inning with a position player before i could swap him out.
I haven't tried to duplicate the error.

For those who may not know, to check swing in classic mode in MLB 2K7 for the Xbox 360, hold down the right trigger and tap a to check swing.
Huh?
Do I always hold down right trigger before swinging with A? Or else you can't check swing? That would be dumb. Otherwise that sentence seems to imply I know I want to check swing before the pitch comes which is never the case.

OK so this brings up scary questions about the game allowing you to sub players properly when one of them is a pitcher, including the double switch. Does the game even allow the double switch? Is it easy to do or convoluted? When batting, it sounds like pinch hitting for a pitcher can lead to problems, and frankly that's unacceptable. It's not entirely unexpected, because it seems to me these problems are common in baseball games.
Has anyone done any experimentation with subs and pitchers to check out all the various moves that should be at your disposal? Has anyone else seen the kind of problem Danimal is describing? If I can't play National League ball, I'll have a hard time convincing myself to buy the game.

I've had a few check swings with just a "quick tap" of the classic swing buttun.

My memory blows so don't hold me to this but i believe i did a check swing last night buy simply tapping A instead of holding it down for a full swing. If you only press it for a split second you can check swing.
I'm striking out way too much like everyone else but i feel that i'm getting better at hitting. I try not to swing at the first pitch much at all and this allows me to get deeper into the count. I've managed to walk twice. I'm gonna try setting the zoom to 0 like others have suggested. Hopefully i'll be able to see the movement of the ball better from that view.
The problem is that the AI pitcher is just too good at picking the corners and the umpire is too forgiving on the border line calls. It just seems like there is nothing i can do. If i swing i'll probably just hit a weak grounder or shallow fly and if i don't swing it's gonna be a strike every time.
I gave up a lot of runs in my game last night but it was better than the night before. 6 of them came in the 8th inning when i wasn't as focused and just wanted to keep practicing batting. I didn't walk anyone but i got deep into counts often.

I haven't pulled a double switch yet, but I have pinch hit for a pitcher and then replaced him with a pitcher that was warming up in my BP several times with no issues.

Lowering the pitch speed just one or two notches will do wonders for your strikeout totals. Also check out the sliders for the AI pitcher and throwing strikes. Don't be afraid to lower them to 30 or less, especially if you are a hacker. There is also a slider for how frequently the AI works the corners. I lowered that and also lowered the "meat pitch" tendency to compensate.
Is there a way to visit the mound? I've seen the CPU do it.
I dont know what they call it, but it's really cool that in pressure situations, how when you're on the mound, the ball cursor starts moving all over the place. I had that happen once with my reliever and he gave up a game tying hr. Seems like you have to make the perfect pitch in that situation or go out to the mound to calm the guy down.

DOes the pitch speed affect the AI hitters as well? Does it make it easier for them make contact if i lower it?
I'll check out all those sliders, thanks!

For double switches, there's a post over at OS that provides a workaround I believe.
Something about saying no when it asks if you want to bring in a new pitcher and then you manually put a new fielder in the pitchers slot and then the new picher will go in the spot you want him to.

No, when you swing with the "A" button and you want to pull back, hit the right trigger.

I did not notice any difference in AI hitting. I think it may just be cosmetic. I had nice variety last night. In one game I got shelled in the first (was trying some tweaks so I restarted the game after a few innings...LOL) and in the last game I played I won 5-2 as Cleveland at Detroit.

Ok so I'm not crazy this is a bug? How exactly did that get by testing.

you don't need a work around for double switches. its just not accessible from the left bumper if you pause the game and go into substitutions, all of the options are there. Cardinal fans
Since I have baseball fever and am probably going to be stuck at home due to snow for the next couple days, I went ahead and picked this up.
One unrealistic thing happened so far--I accidentally nailed Eckstein with a Santana changeup with 2 outs in the top of the 4th. I have Cuddyer leading off for me with Morneau on deck. Carpenter drilled Cuddyer with a fastball and then served up a beach ball and allowed me to tie the game at 2. Somehow I think LaRussa would have waited a bit for retaliation, like when Punto was on deck.
I definitely need to tone down the pitch speed, I have no clue if a pitch is a ball or strike early enough at this point.
