MLB 2K7

I'll look for this tomorrow, but I don't recall seeing any delay or at least something that has stood out to me in 4-5 games. It's late though and I'm tired.Diablo25 wrote:I hope this delay I am seeing is just a "demo-thing" and not in the final version because, and I'm being honest here, its something I won't get past. If I can't hit realistically in the game it will be worthless.
I'll have the retail version tomorrow.

Yeah, what delay are you talking about? I don't see it.
It's funny...when I was playing the MLB 07 demo at my hotel there was a delay...same with NCAA 07...both on the PS2. They had an HD LCD in the room...and it had something to do with that because when I hook it up to my LCD at home or my CRT Projection, it works fine. I wonder if you guys are seeing the same thing.

DB, there is very noticeable lag when you try to swing the bat. As if you were playing online.Diablo25 wrote:I hope this delay I am seeing is just a "demo-thing" and not in the final version because, and I'm being honest here, its something I won't get past. I am DEFINITELY seeing this, and yes, it's basically unplayable because of it. But apparently most aren't seeing it, so I don't know what to say. Might have something to do with my TV like others have mentioned.

Well, after playing a few more games...and learning about the pinch hitting bug and horrible slowdown in The Show...I think I'm going completely opposite of what I had planned on. I'll pick up MLB 2k7 (already got it preordered) and transfer my PS2 preorder over to the PSP version for The Show. Gotta have baseball on the go and there aren't any other choices...so The Show is on the PSP and 2k7 on the 360. Never thought I'd be saying that.
If some of you guys aren't seeing the slowdown I'm guessing it is a demo issue or a TV issue. It is VERY similar to the delay I see with MLB The Show (PS2) when I play it on my HDTV. With certain HDTV's there is a delay with something due to the conversion from 480P (or something) to the HDTV. I researched it alot when I got the lag the first time I played The Show on my HDTV (Samsung). This should not be an issue with next gen systems though. I hope its not in the final version or its a killer...at least to me.

I've played about 6 games now with the PS3 version, and the fielding camera is awful. It's very difficult to pick up on the ball off of the bat in most ballparks. The ball marker icon on flyballs is also very hard to see. No idea what 2k was thinking with only this one fielding camera. Every reaction on a groundball to the IF is late.
Seems like when you're batting there's no need to actually aim at the location of the pitch, regardless of which batting mechanic you use. I'm just pressing the X button on Classic, and hitting pretty much everything I have timed correctly, no matter where it's located. I guess, in a way, it's kind of like MVP in that you can influence your type of hit.
My initial impressions were positive, but the more I play, the more the unpolished gameplay is starting to stick out. Definitely a step in the right direction for 2k, but still a long way to go.

If it makes any difference, 2K7 is also available for the PSP at $10 cheaper:dbdynsty25 wrote:Well, after playing a few more games...and learning about the pinch hitting bug and horrible slowdown in The Show...I think I'm going completely opposite of what I had planned on. Played the demo about four or five times last night, started to get pretty hooked. I was a bit shocked at how much it felt like last years in certain respects, but it's a big difference when everything's actually "working". Some of the cut-scenes blew me away. After playing a lot of MLB '06 and getting used to zone hitting again, it's a little tough to go back to hitting that's primarily timing based... I did find it easier to read pitch movement than in last year's disaster, and I was able to draw a walk pretty much every time I played the demo, so that's good. As to whether this'll be good for user walks, the CPU hitters are crazy good on Legend, so maybe with all the nit-picking and corner painting necessary to not get shelled, some unintentional user walks will come out of it. I think I walked one in all the games I played, but I was also getting hit pretty hard on Legend.
Fielding hasn't bothered me, though it's a weird design choice to not actually see the flight of the ball... I know they want to keep the action close up, but it's bizarre to have to 'rely on your instruments', so to speak.
I don't know, I'm strangely excited to pick this one up. I've played so much MLB '06 on the PSP (and will continue to) I have a hard time picking up the new version, even though it was in stock at the local game store last night. Time for a change I guess, and all that 360 functionality doesn't hurt.

I think I know what the delay is that some of you are talking about. With the right analog stick you want to pull back on it right after the pitch is released (every pitch) and that will make your batter step back and prepare to swing. When the ball reaches the plate you need to let go of the analog stick to swing or press up on the analog stick for a power swing. If you're waiting too long to pull back on the analog stick you will likely see a delay. Seriously, pull back on the analog stick as soon as the pitch leaves the pitchers hands. It takes a couple of games to get used to it but once you do it adds more to the batting game other than press the A button to swing the bat.
I am a patient boy.

It's a mixed bag for me. On one hand, I love the pitching and batting interface. In my first game, I mindlessly left Suppan in and had a heck of time locating my pitches. In my second game, I immediately warmed Looper up, and brought him in the game. He was locating his pitches quite well for the first inning and a half, but then he started to leave some pitches out over the plate. So, the dynamics of pitching is great IMO. By the way, the replay that follows the path of the baseball on a strikeout looks awesome!
Batting too is enjoyable. As others have commented, I'm not seeing a delay in swinging the bat with using both the swing stick and the buttons. The mannerisms of the players at the plate look great (i.e. Pujols, Edmonds, Beltran). Is there not a practice swing in the game? Also, has anyone confirmed if there are check swings? I can't imagine this being omitted.
Fielding is another story. It less clunky than last year, but momentum still feels a bit too much over the top. Give me MVP's fielding and I'd be a one excited gamer! I'm not having an issue tracking down fly balls as other have mentioned. My biggest gripe is on the infield. I just do not like the cut scene camera angle when throwing the ball. Why can't we have a camera angle that gives you the classic overhead view? At least make it an option.
I'm leaning towards purchasing this game as TT has really made some significant improvements in just one year, but there are still areas for improvement. With the inclusion of in game saves, smarter A.I., toned down outfielder throws, and great pitching interface, they are certainly headed in the right direction. MLB The Show might still have the better overall game, but at least 360 owners won't be left with a poor representation of baseball this year.

I liked what I saw out of the demo except for the fielding camera! It is just bad. It was like I was playing in a cardboard box or something and I was wanting to constantly fight my way out so I could get some room and breath a little! Way too confined. Maybe I could get used to it but atleast give me a choice. I mean hasn't all previous baseball games had atleast 3 fielding cameras?
Why do they have to force us to play on a certain camera angle? Was it technical or programming reasons? What?
Combine the fielding angle with the little spec that is suppose to be the ball it is hard to tell which direction to go. Outfield I really didn't have issues with, it is the Infield play on linedrives and grounders. I had to turn ball trails back on (have always taken that crap off) just to get a better idea where the ball was in the infield.
I didn't notice any lag while using the swing stick either.

Thanks Scoop, but I was seeing the delay with the classic swing as well, which tells me it's not just a function of getting used to the timing with the analog stick. Something's amiss here.ScoopBrady wrote:I think I know what the delay is that some of you are talking about. Nope. The swing stick sucks IMO. I use Classic hitting. Trust me, there is a delay.ScoopBrady wrote:I think I know what the delay is that some of you are talking about.
