Fun game last night. That second battle was a real knock down drag out fight! Me and Teal took the win on it, but just barely. I was just about ready to lose the last of my ship to torpedo attacks.
The first game didn't go so well for me, but at least I made you guys work for my carrier!

Yeah, it took some doing to get that damn carrier down. But I really liked the handicap match that we won there at the end. This is my favorite XBL game at the moment...

Bet you didn't know a CV could bob and weave like that!
I was working the buttons like a madman, trying to avoid the shots from your ship, as well as the torpedos from the aircraft, all the while trying to send up torpedo bombers of my own to take you out. I was handing out planes to the other guys, but one said his flying was terrible, and eventually I didn't have time, I'd just launch 'em and leave 'em. Worked for a while, although no doubt my crew was getting mighty seasick.

What he said...
Gurantsu, I've never figured it out: HOW do you give units to your teammates?

So I need to do ninety minutes of homework before I am fit to join you guys online? And they said SC has a learning curve. . . sheesh.TCrouch wrote:Do the hour-and-a-half tutorial and that's all the walkthrough you'll need. I can't promise I'll complete the full tutorial, but if anyone would like to help show me the ropes, I think I'd like to try it out sometime before sending it back.
In a word: yes.
There's way too much to do for somebody to try and explain it, and the tutorials are in stages...moving a ship is one mission, firing artillery is another, navigating a map, launching planes, controlling planes, using subs, etc.
There's no way anybody could explain the controls in each specific set of ops that's any quicker than the tutorial. It's not about "fit for joining online", it's about just wrapping your head around the controls that change every time you switch to another unit or map screen.

I played the tutorial and I still have no clue how to do what I want to do. I just mash buttons until I say, "ah thats it." But then again, I am a complete moron.
edit: proved it.... but I was debugging 4 threads of .net code while I was making this post.. so I have an excuse.

Each tutorial is relatively short, and kind of fun if you can get used to Sgt. Carter screaming at you during them. You can skip some, for example if you don't plan on actually controlling a sub or plane, skip those ones. The biggies are really the ones about controlling ships, damage control, and using the stategic map. Learn the basics there and you can jump into any multi-player game, just pick a ship when the game starts.

Cool, the P-38 will be a neat addition, as well as the Iowa class battleships.
I remember back when I was in the Navy we did an absolutely huge exercise, and during part of it we got to see the USS Missouri and the USS New Jersey, both Iowa class ships, fire off their big guns full broadside at the same time (my ship was directly aft of the Missouri). Thats something I'll never forget.
I still have a picture of part of the fleet during the exercise, and it's filled with US and Japanese ships sailing together. The worlds come a long way since my grandfathers time, then again in some ways we haven't travelled very far at all.
