Oh, I haven't forgotten! I couldn't get on like I wanted tonight, because of a concert some friends of mine put on, AND I'm completely zonked. You wanna give it a go Sunday night? Just tell me a time. I'm on CST, remember...bkrich83 wrote:Don't forget you owe me a game.tealboy03 wrote:damn, I'm jealous! Teal, we've been on with this the past 3 nights. I'm loving it. Had 5/6 on Thursday night, 8 on Saturday night, and 7 last night. Zep wants to play some SC tonight. We should try to squeeze some BSM in before, or after, SC.tealboy03 wrote:Oh, I haven't forgotten! I'm all for it. I'm rested up and ready to blow crap up. And I'll play some SC tonight, too, if you need me.Sully wrote:Teal, we've been on with this the past 3 nights. I'm loving it. This game is an absolute blast imo, and all I've done is single player. I'm about halfway through the campaign, I think...I really like the mix of strategy and action in it. Issuing orders to a wing of bombers to take out a target, switching to them and either watching or doing it myself (usually the latter since their aiming sucks).

Yeah, that's what's so cool about it. There are action games, there are strategy games, but there's nothing quite like this, that does both so well. I've gotten to the point where you have to rondevous with a british fleet, and am getting my butt kicked...I think it's about 6 missions in or so...but I've been loving getting buttkicked...

I like this game so far, though there certainly is a lot to wrap your head around as far as the control schemes go. You have to remember a different set of controls for nearly every screen you are on. I don't think it's 'difficult' at all...it just seems like it will take a while before you'll feel comfortable with everything. I finished the academy missions over two days, and played the first four missions of the single player mode, and I still feel that in the heat of multiplayer battle I'd be fumbling with the controls!
That said, count me in for some multiplayer, if you can handle a somewhat fumbly player on your side! Will anyone be on tonight? (10:30 ish eastern?)

I personally absolutely hate those type of RTS games (I just can't wrap my head around mining stuff to build a building in order to get a unit that will need to build another building in order to upgrade another unit... blech, it just turns into a click-fest), although I am a fan of real-time games like Close Combat, Harpoon, Squad Assault, and the Take Command Civil War games.
I have a friend who absolutely loves the games you mentioned. And we both are enjoying the heck out of Midway. Although units do need to be "built" (AKA launched from airfields, carriers, and shipyards), there are no conditions to it, other than a limit on the total number of units allowed to be deployed at a given time. So I like that, and there is still a big picture battle going on that you need to keep track of. It helps also that the AI is good so you don't need to babysit units if you don't want to,which is important since you may want to jump into a unit.
I was on last night, but it looked like everyone was playing Gears of War. I ended up hopping into a couple of games, and both ended with lost connections. I have had more and more games end that way, usually when one side is starting to get hammered. It's a bad trend, especially for a game that you're in for over half an hour when the host decides he's had enough. Now, I have had a legitimate lock up myself, but I just think that there are too many lost connections to be coincidence.

Just had a killer battle with Wrekcut from Zerocommit. I LOVE THIS GAME. I lost my carrier early thanks to wrek's great use of torpedo bombers, and all I had was a crippled destroyer. While he was engaged with a couple of other guys, I snuck around an island where his carrier was, and launched 3 waves of torpedos at it, firing off artillery while they reloaded. Wrek got wise and started trying to take me down with torpedo bombers, but I was in a place where all my destroyer had to do was go back and forth to dodge the torpedos, and they'd crash harmlessly into the beach.
With one last salvo of torpedos, my destroyer's deck all the way down to the water's surface and on fire, the carrier went down. I sank right after that, but it freed up my teammates to bombard the airfield, without worrying about the carrier.
Wrek put up quite a fight, however. But what an exciting match it was!
Let's not let this one slip away! I want to get some more big rooms going, Sully, Web, Wrek, all you others who have it...

Tuesday works for me too. Count me in.
I had the oppurtunity to try the PC version of the game, and while it is the same game, I prefer the console version. It does let you map controls seperately for the various units, so you can use keyboard and mouse for ships and a joystick for aircraft for example, so thats cool. But it would still be fun for a LAN party.
I've also played 7 months of the campaign game in Pacific Storm, and the war hasn't even started yet! Just building up my bases and waiting for the Japanese to start the war. LOTS of options for bases, so I'm letting the AI handle a lot of it. Still, a cool game if you like the big strategy games. Uncommon Valor is another very good Pacific Theater game, based on the campaign around Guadalcanal. It has more of a "hex and counter" boardgame look to it.
Anyway, Tuesday should be fun. And playing with you guys I won't have to worry about dropped connections... I hope (since in our last game MY 360 locked up!)

Wasn't Midway suppose to be the first game that allowed PC'ers and 360 users to play online with each other? Or am I thinking of another game? I know C&C 3 might have this functionality as well.Gurantsu wrote:I had the oppurtunity to try the PC version of the game, and while it is the same game, I prefer the console version. Picked this up with the CC sale this week as I'd already had my eye on it. All things considered, my Live time has been sorely diminished the past couple of weeks between family and work obligations, but I'll see if I can't get up to speed on this one and hook up with you guys for a poker night or two.

No, the deal was for 10:30pm EST, so we're not there yet. I just wanted to see who could host. I'll try it, but there are no guarantees on my connection...
