Thanks Peapody for all the good advice. Anything that can makes things go more smoothly will cetainly help all involved. Then we can focus on the important things like making sure my Mom is confortable in her final days.

Thanks again to all for the kind words. If anyone thinks of anything that might be helpful, please dont hesitate to post. Thanks again.

Wow Jack, sorry to hear about all you're going through now.

When my dad was in a hospice situation a few years ago, at the time it seemed like an incredibly difficult situation, but looking back at it now all I can think is how grateful I am that his last few days were as comfortable as they were for him. It really gave us a chance to just be together and talk about things. That's what I remember most now, not all the difficult stuff.

I hope years from now you look back at these days with as much gratitude for them as I do now. The work hospice organizations do is amazing.

My thoughts are with you and your family.

Prayers are with you. My father died of cancer a few years ago, so I can relate to what you're going through.

Some days will be better than others, but you take one day at a time and make the best of it. Faith, friends, and even a little sense of humor at times will all play a role in getting through it.

just a update....
BTW, thanks to all for the nice thought (PK, thanks for the call).
I have been in NJ the past several days and I did get to see my Mom
at the hospital and say my goodbyes to her. She saw me and reached her arms out to me to hug me. I will never forget that and was so happy to see her before the end. She was given "days" by the Dr's but she is hanging in there. She is barely able to say anything or realize who is there with her. It is so sad to see her lying there like that. Me and my sister are ready for her to let go. We have everything in place, made all the arrangements, etc . and are emotionally as ready as can be, but now it's up to her. But it is agonizing waiting around for that phone call from the hospital. She seems to be resting comfortably and I only want her to go out in peace. Thanks again to all and I miss checking this forum daily and annoying you guys with my trivial posts :D

guys..I need some quick advice here.

My mom is still alive, barely hanging on by a thread.
Question is this: We never had time to get her car out of
her name and I don't want the money from her car to go to
pay her creditors. It is worth maybe 5K and that's pretty much
all the value she has left. In her will, everything goes to my Dad,
but he couldnt use the car because he is disabled, in a nursing home,
on Medicaid. If she goes now, what becomes of the car? Does it
go to my Dad or do creditors and hospital bills get paid first? I do have
power of attorney over both my mom and dad, so could I just sell it
myself off today to get the money for it now?

Jack,

Again, I am no attorney, but I believe that if the car is only in your mom's name and not your dad's as well, then it goes into the estate. I believe the car could be used to pay off your mother's bills. Your dad would get whatever money is left after the bills are paid.

So, if you feel there is not time to transfer the title then I guess selling it would be best. I'm assuming you have a buyer already lined up because it seems like transfering the title would be faster.

just a final word to wrap up this post...

Mom passed away Sun AM peacefully in her sleep.
I will miss her deeply, but am happy she went peacefully.
She was everything a mom could possibly be. She brought
me into this world and I will remember her always....R.I.P.

Thanks to all here who offered kind words of support. It means
a great deal to me. Tommorow is the hardest part...the funeral.
Next day, it's back home to Atlanta. Hope to be back here on a regular
basis soon. I know Teal misses me

Jack:

Very, very sorry to hear about your mother's passing. Try to take comfort in knowing that her brave fight has brought her eternal peace. No more suffering, no more pain.

Hang in there, man.

Take care,

Sorry about your loss Jack...my grandfather (as mentioned earlier) passed last week...so I can kinda see what you're going through. It's tough to lose the people you're close to, just remember they are in a better place now.

Jack,

My condolences to you and your family. I lost my last two grandparents late last year, but I know they will always be a part of me. I know your mom will carry on in your love for her and memories of her.

Jack, you and your family will be in my thoughts and prayers tomorrow during this difficult time. It sounds like you and your sister had a loving relationship with your Mother and you had the opportunity to express that to her. That is a gift, even though it is not an easy one to see or feel right now. Stay strong...Peace.

PS - Post here if there are any charitable organizations we can donate to in your Mom's memory.
