I have a feeling that is going to be the problem. There won't be anything accurate enough to make the sports games good. That's why I've held out so far...just nothing really compelling outside of the Wii sports stuff and I can see how those might get old quickly. I'm a sim type of guy, so the fun factor I would get in the begining would wear off rather quickly if there wasn't some sort of sim aspect (along with real players, teams, stadia, etc.).

Everything I have read about Wii Play is that it is very shallow and worth about $10. I already have 2 wiimotes and don't need another so I will pass on this.

Some promising words about the upcoming Super Paper Mario game;
Unlike the straight role-playing in previous Paper Mario games, Super Paper Mario is a puzzle-filled platform game with some loose RPG elements. The titular 2D plumber gets the power to move about in the third dimension, adding fantastic puzzle elements to otherwise flat landscapes. Impassible walls and dead ends can be overcome by switching to 3D mode and revealing that the wall is only paper thin, or that the dead end is actually the start of a bridge. The level of the game that I played was filled with clever 3D puzzles that included hidden pipes, invisible blocks, moving platforms, and plenty of imposing-yet-flat enemies.

I am very interested in purchasing TW and Paper Mario when they hit.

Accuracy does seem to be a problem. In wii sports tennis, for instance, half the time it can't detect between a forehand or a backhand, and shots that should be putaways at the net end up going the opposite way that I swung and get hit way out. Wiisports tennis may be just accurate enough for someone who doesn't know jack about tennis, but for someone like me who plays tennis and knows how to place shots and demands a high level of control, it just doesn't cut it.
Nintendo's worst mistake, imo was in not making the wiimote more easily convertible into a regular controller. The fact that you have to shell out 20 bones to have anything resembling a normal joystick was a big mistake, because eventually developers and gamers will realise that there are whole genres of games that simply won't work well with the wiimote and will have to be played with the old controller (like a winning eleven-type game, for example). Maybe this will force developers to think outside the box, but it would have been nice not to have to buy separate controllers to play certain games.

I'm ordering one of these this week from Sharp (it's an incentive program for selling their TVs) and it seems like everybody's as excited about it as I am, including my girlfriend. The bundle they offer includes Zelda (yay) and Rampage (nay). I hope it doesn't take a long time for them to ship it out to me.

The only Mistake they really made was not including the two controllers in a bundle, which i'm sure will happen eventually. If you compare it's only $10 more for the two separate pieces than an xbox 360 controller. Imagine trying to use the wii remote as a tennis racket when a thumb stick might get in the way.

Having a separate controller in each hand also allows for independent motions. How could you play a boxing game or something like that with only one controller?

Wii sports was never meant to be realistic. The tennis game never even tries to detect the angle of your racket. The only way you can control what direction to hit the ball is bay swinging early or late. Who knows, maybe it really can't detect that kind of stuff, but you really can't tell either way by playing Wii sports. The game never tries to be that ambitious.

One easy way for the game to be able to tell whether you want a backhand or forehand on wii tennis is to have a small visual in the corner of the screen somewhere that tells the player which way the remote is rotated, like the little hand pointer that you use to navigate the menu. So that if you wanted a forehand shot, your onscreen arrow would have to be pointed to the right, or left for a backhand shot, and you would need to rotate the controller in your hand thusly.
I just think having to buy a wiimote, nunchuk, AND old style controller is a bit much to ask. If all three came bundled for, say, 65 bucks or so, then maybe, but even then that's a bit much.

One of my all time favorite games from the SNES, Donkey Kong Country was finally released on the virtual console today. Still a very fun game today.

Is it playable with the wii remote or do you need the classic controller?

For now, there is really no reason to buy the classic controller unless you play VC games. I have little to no interest in any VC game (I can emulate anything on my HTPC) so I have no plans to ever buy the Classic Controller. Heck, a game like Metal Slug Anthrology would have benefited from the classic con but of course, SNK screwed it up by not offering an option. Go figure.

It uses either the classic controller or the gamecube controller.

Check out www.wiiminder.com on your wii, it's a tabbed browser that works really well. It has a list of favorite sites already on it and you can also add your own favorite sites to it.

The Wii bundle that I ordered from Sharp today (hurray for free game systems) includes Zelda and Rampage.

Anybody have any words of encouragement for me to keep Rampage? I'm thinking I'm going to get rid of it right away, without even opening it, but just making sure.

Thanks.

Tiger Woods 07 tutorial video, showing how the controls will work.

It's not really loading for me, but apparently it's supposed to be pretty cool.

No one has commented about Tecmo Bowl's release on the Virtual Console today?

Haven't had much of a chance to play it, but it looks like the only thing they did was remove the player names. That #34 on the silver and black Los Angeles team is a beast!

I don't buy VC games, but I was just playing Tecmo Super Bowl on emu on Sunday. God the game is fun but the AI is awful. It is virtually impossible to win with a bad team and a total cake walk with a good team like Dallas. With a bad team (like the Patriots), I could not stop any pass/run on the opposing team. Every running play is a touchdown (unless I got really lucky and called the right play).

Picked up Wii Play the other day, mainly for just an extra wiimote since I couldn't find them anywhere. Played through the Wii Play games last night and they are just bascally quick demos to get you used to the wiimote. The only game that was worth anything on the disc is the tank game, sort of like combat with updated graphics.

I put just the game on ebay last night for a buy it now price of 19.99 and it sold in less than 2 hours so I end up with just a 30 dollar wiimote. :)

You would think that if they would go through the trouble of taking out the names in the rom and just use numbers that they would maybe at least update the players to the current ones. I'll probably hold off until Super Tecmo Bowl comes out.

They may not feel like it will be worthwhile releasing Tecmo Super Bowl, since they will have to delete both the player and the team names and logos, not to mention altering the game's name, since I don't think they can use the words Super Bowl in their title.

Probably true, and it's such a shame. I've said it before on these boards, and i'll say it again, i will buy Tecmo Super Bowl in a second if they released it on the VC. My only wish is for them to add online play to it like xbox live does to many classic games. I know you can use an emulator and play online but it's just not the same as playing it on a TV. A DSP Tecmo Super Bowl league would be loads of fun.

I'm totally with you. Just goes to show that EA's license grab did nothing but shaft the gamer in the end. It's even more absurd when you realise that the license exclusivity even covers things like VC re-releases of games that were released nearly 20 years ago!

You can't blame EA for this. Those licenses expired a long time ago. There's no way any company would pay for a new license on a VC title. EA has nothing to do with this.
