if lowe wants to deal...he should call Boston....they may have changed GMs...but the dumb deals continue....
I don't think that was bad deal for Boston. Stuart has been somewhat of a headcase his entire career and he was as good as gone anyway. So they get Ferrence who's under contract for the next few years and a guy with 25-30 goal potential in Kobasew all for a rental player and Wayne Primeau.

I agree, Tim. Ference is underrated. Yeah, he's small, but he plays "big." A lot of grit and heart. Kobasew has potential, as you said.

Stuart is as good as gone from Calgary after this spring. A rental.

Take care,

the B's got ference and kobasu....and that is it.
I'm guessing that Ciarelli wanted Torres, Horcoff, Lupul or Bergeron and a prospect, and that's a bit to give up for a rental. It's also a pretty clear sign that the Oil is becoming a seller as the season continues to go south, looking for long-term help instead of a rental for a playoff run.

Unreal. And the scary thing is that the Pens are kicking ass despite Crosby being in the longest goal-scoring drought of his young career.

What the hell does this team do when Sid starts lighting the lamp again?

The best thing that could happen to the NHL and hockey, in general, in the U.S. is for the Pens to make a deep run or win the Cup. This team is so exciting to watch and is the type of firewagon team that can bring new fans to the sport or bring former fans back into the fold.

he might not be getting goals, but he is still racking up assists. he creates space for everyone else.

i remember in college Pitt put a guy on me the entire game...even following me out to the neutral zone...so that is what i did...i skated away from the puck...let the other guys have more space..would then use my speed to get bck in the zone and jump into the play..draw another defender..pass it off to my winger and they'd have an odd man advantage.

One of the teams on a downhill spiral are the Habs. They started so well, and now they are a team in disarray, lack of confidence and losers of 5 straight games. To make things worse, one of their top guns, Kovalev is out with an arm injury.

S. Doan was one of the guys rumored to be moved, but he just signed a long extension with the Yotes.

Canucks have been having problems this year with the Wild but they came on top last night in a battle for 1st place with CAL.

So where do you think P. Forsberg is going gang?

I think somebody ( a GM on the "hot seat") will overpay and they will go out in round one....

Given the high price for Forsberg, I think it only makes sense for teams with a real shot, so I highly doubt teams like NY, MTL, or TOR will make a deal.

I've heard SJ and ANA, but Nashville is the name that just won't go away and is the most likely destination it seems.

Naples, you're zeroing in, man! TSN is reporting that Forsberg is headed to Nashville for Scottie Upshall, Ryan Parent and two picks.

Forsberg was pulled from the Flyers' lineup tonight after skating in warmups. As they say, where there's smoke ...

Pretty good deal for the Flyers I think. They essentially acquired NSH's 1st round picks in 2002, 2005 and 2007, plus that 3rd rounder. A month ago I would've never thought the Flyers could get that much for a Forsberg rental. Additionally, Upshall and Parent are very much prototypical Flyers-type guys.

Forsberg obviously is a great pickup for Nashville as well. They have all the pieces to go to the Finals, and getting Forsberg might even wake up a napping fanbase. Since the allstar break where Forsberg's foot issues have been 'resolved,' he has looked like a different player and has picked up 12 points in 9 games. Here's to hoping that Forsberg pulls a Weight/Recchi and re-signs in Philly.

Echo your sentiments, fellas. This is a proverbial win-win for both teams.

Philly builds for the future with young talent and picks, while Nashville strengthens its position as the Beast of the East and is preparing for a long Cup run.

Hopefully this will get more bodies in the rink at Nashville. Although as others have said here and I've read online, the problem in Nashville isn't the "regular" fans. The upper level is pretty full most nights. The corporate support for the team has been poor.

Sounds like a good deal for the Flyers, and hopefully a good one for Nashville who I'll be cheering for in the playoffs now.

What kind of player is Ryan Parent? I can't find out much about him online.

Number 18 pick in 2005, 6.2, stay at home defensemen. Member of Canada's last 2 WJC teams, and captain of his OHL team I think.

EDIT: Link deleted....PK beat me to it. :)

It's a good deal for both teams. Philly will rebuild from scratch as they should and the time for NAS is NOW! Like you were saying PK, The problem in country music has been the lack of corporate support the last two seasons and with the best record in the NHL, they can't even sell out their games. With the arrival of Foppa if they don't get the support the franchise deserves now, then the NHL doesn't belong there.

I think the next big names are indeed the two guys in St Louis, and if EDM has given up already I hear the name of P. Sykora as well.
And then again you have T. Bertuzzi and G. Roberts from FLO. And it'll be interesting to see G. Snow dealing and wheeling soon. M. Sillinger gets moved around at this time of the year and I am sure this year is no different for him.

Tough break for BUF as M. Afinogenov is injured for the second time this season and is gone for a month.

I'm more than willing to see the Oil part with Sykora. He lit up the scoreboard in October and November and has pulled a Jimmy Hoffa since then.

Here are Oilers for whom I wouldn't shed too many tears if they were dealt for value and talent:

Bergeron
J. Smith
Sykora
Lupul
Torres
Nedved (who would want him?)
Winchester (might get a used puck bag for him)

Congrats to Joe Sakic for reaching the 600-goal mark last night, becoming just the 17th NHL player to reach that peak.

Even more fitting that it came on a five-point night for Sakic, a living legend of the game.

Check out the new NHL ad with the Sedin twins linked in this story:

http://www.nhl.com/nhl/app/?service=pag ... eid=288925

It's very funny. I laughed out loud. Wish it had been shown during the Super Bowl -- would have been the funniest commercial with ease.

Looks like the Oilers have traded Bergeron to the Islanders. Still can't find the official link but both Isle and Oiler fans are reporting it's a done deal

Man, I don't know what to make of this because I know nothing about Grebeshkov. He was the Kings' first-round pick in 2002 and has played only 33 games in the NHL since then.

Sounds like a bit of a bust to me, based on that.

I'm not as negative on Bergie as some of the people on that board, but the guy does have some SERIOUS defensive deficiencies. It's absolutely frightening seeing him paired with Matt Greene. That pairing forces Greene, a rookie who still is learning and making plenty of mistakes of his own, to compensate for all of Bergie's defensive woes.

Bergie is a No. 5 or 6 NHL defenseman who was made to look better than he is by playing last year with Chris Pronger. He has a heavy shot and little else. He's the new Janne Niniimaa going from Edmonton to the Islanders again.

The Ryan Smyth situation concerns me WAY more than this deal. Lowe and Smyth's agent were supposed to meet yesterday, but it didn't happen. Combine that with Smyth's public statements that he's not going to take a "hometown discount," and I think Smytty's days in Edmonton may be numbered.

That would piss me off to no end. Smyth is the best player on the Oilers, by far, and an elite NHL player. As Don Cherry said last night on "Coaches Corner," nobody works harder in the NHL. If Pronger was worth $7 million last season to the Oil, then Smytty, who has bled for this organization for more than 10 years, is worth $5.25 million per season.

Take care,
PK
