Is anyone interested in some online racing this weekend with NASCAR Racing 2003 Season? With the Twin 150s today and the Daytona 500 Sunday, I'm itching a bit to run at Daytona.
Fixed setups -- either default or Bob Stanley's -- and we can determine a race distance. I'm thinking Saturday or Sunday night.
So who's interested? And if you don't have this great PC sim, there are ways of getting it even though it's very rare and horribly overpriced on eBay.
Post here if you're interested in racing. Send me a PM if you're interested in the game.
Take care,
PK

Yes, Daytona for this weekend. I'm not ready to commit yet to a full season since I'm already in our GPL league, but semi-regular to regular poker nights would be fun.

GPL first now N2003?! I'm getting that itch to break out the wheel. I remember waaaaaay to many sleepless nights cause I couldn't improve my time on Monza!!!
Looks like I need to do some CD searching this weekend.
Interested, but I absolutely stink at NR2003. I've played it about once a year since I bought it, so I've not put in anything like enough time to be anything other than rotten.
Does it run online straight out of the box or would it require us to download some extra gubbins to get it going?
Should run straight out of the box since we're doing IP racing, not using a Papy server. Everyone will just need to plug in the host's IP address, and they're golden.
Daytona definitely flattens the learning curve, man. We'll all use the same setups, and your right foot is fused to the floorboards for nearly the whole race.
Join us if you can swing it with the time difference, mate. We'll pin down a day and time tomorrow.
Take care,
PK

I remember trying to get you to get NS2003 a while back with a wheel. What did you end up getting?

An el-cheapo Logitech wheel. I have a pension for ruining wheels when my temper hits, so I figured I might as well go basic so it doesn't cost me as much as it did before.
I always liked the Microsoft wheel, but it is hard to find anymore.
I'm thinking 60 laps (150 miles -- just like the Twins) at Daytona, default setups (Qualify for qualifying and Fast for race) so no one without Bob Stanley's setups has to run around the Net trying to find them. Plus the defaults are a bit more stable than Stanley's, if not quite as fast.
I'm thinking we run around 24 AI opponents. That will give us a big field for drafting and racing. A full field might create latency issues, especially for guys on DSL connections or overseas.
We can start with a practice session, then qualify, then go straight to the race. Since we have a practice and are using default setups, I think Happy Hour is unnecessary.
10:30 p.m. (EST) seems to be a time that accomodates the East and West coast, but 11 p.m. works, too, if the Left Coasters need more time.
Does Saturday night work for you cats? I can be the IP host.
Let me know. Looking forward to it!

I seriously vote AGAINST running defaults. It's Daytona, Stanley's setups aren't so unstable that you won't be able to drive it. Plus, in NR2003, the server sets the setup and it's used by all, no "finding setups" needed. Server sets it, clients use it, and it's done. The defaults really are junk at super speedway tracks, and not very fun to drive at all...especially with AI at any decent level. Not to mention you can't set "qualify" and "race" setups for separate sessions...it's one-setup-fits-all.
Other than that, I can run any time and don't really care much about the rest of the rules.
Is there any way to set a practice length for longer than 90 minutes? I was going to setup a server that we could all just hop on and practice together but the 90 minute limit is a bummer.

Ninety minutes of practice? Damn, is this the Rolex 24 or a Twin 150?
Just kidding.
