I'm curious to see how this game turns out. Last year's game was awful, but it sounds like they've really recognized that and are trying to bring it back on track, especially with all that "3-year plan talk". But considering this is "year one", we know it'll have some issues.
If there are no game killers (and we all have different ones) this could be the game for me. The Show is always solid, but I don't know if I feel like playing another year on that same engine.

Since they already said this will be a 3 year project, I can live with a few quarks.. but like you, I'm ready to finally dig into this franchise.AJColossal wrote:I'm curious to see how this game turns out. I'll be on the PS2 with The Show for this year's baseball fix.
You know the first year of the "3 year plan" will focus solely on graphics and animations. I'm sure very few, if any, actual gameplay fixes will be made.
Next year, now that's a different story. That's when I'll start to get a little excited about this franchise.

FYI, I just watched Gamespot's weekly live studio show and Ben Brinkman (producer of MLB2K7) was in studio. It was a pretty bland/quick interview but there was a few nice tidbits. First off, he confirmed that there will be a demo for the 360 and PS3 - no date but he said it wasn't just a quick 3 inning pop in, pop out demo. Not sure what that means. The big news was a possible early release. When asked about the ship date he said "yes, right now it is March 5th...but it may be earlier...that's all I'm saying." They were playing a game while the interview was being conducted and it looked very nice. Presentation was slick. Brinkman said he would put the game up against any sports game as far as visuals. It does look nice.

If you listen to the 2nd video where the jerseys are moving all over the place, they do say the wind is blowing at 10 mph.
I really wish the framerate was like their NHL game though.. seems a little jerky to me.
I think it will be a fun pick up and play game this year. I do think it will at least be playable, but I think The Show will be the front runner once again.. and they should be considering the new team for MLB 2k.
I'm going to pre-order this one tonight, just to make sure I have a copy reserved.

I thought these videos looked very sharp. It's nice to finally have a next-gen looking baseball title.
The wind effects look like a cool effect that the developers fell in love with and overdid a little bit. I've seen games played in that kind of wind, but they don't happen that frequently.
I don't think MLB 2K7 is particularly bad in this department, but you can see how much better The Show is at capturing each player individually from their stance down to the exact way they look. Again not a big deal to some, but the difference is notable.

Its actually toned down in those videos. In Earlier vids it was pretty obvious. I don't know if its a distraction though. I get passed it rather easilyPRBoom wrote:That's the first I've I've checked out any media on this game. I see what you guys are saying about the jersey's flapping in the wind. It's so overdone that it's become a distraction. Seriously, it's really bad looking IMO.

I just got my copy of Game Informer (subscription was free with something I got from EB) and they reviewed it as an 8.5. They said is visually stunning and an overall good baseball game. Negatives were sound (mainly Miller and Morgan) and a few other small things. 8.5 is very solid IMO.

Weird, in all the videos I've seen, I love the commentary from Miller and Morgan. Go figure.Diablo25 wrote:I just got my copy of Game Informer (subscription was free with something I got from EB) and they reviewed it as an 8.5. One thing I never liked about this series were Miller and Morgan.
Miller's voice just doesn't translate well into videogames. He makes the game so boring, sort of like Madden did back in the ps1/ps2 games. And Morgan is just annoying as hell.
But its looking good. I'll end up getting MLB07 for ps2 last week of Feb and pickup 360's MLB2K the following week. I never played 2k6 but thought 2k5 on xbox was not half bad.

Was the review for the 360, PS3 or both? I personally don't mind those two guys but I doubt anything comes better than the commentary on Sony's MLB.Diablo25 wrote:I just got my copy of Game Informer (subscription was free with something I got from EB) and they reviewed it as an 8.5.
