You cats have short memories. The deal that sent Lindros from Quebec to the Flyers is among the worst of all time:
FLYERS GOT:
Lindros
Zero Stanley Cups
NORDIQUES GOT:
Forsberg
Simon
Duchesne
Huffman
Ricci
Thibault (draft pick)
Hextall
A lot of cash and future considerations
Two Stanley Cups in Colorado
With the hindsight of history, Lindros for Forsberg straight-up still would favor the Nords/Avs. And the Flyers gave up a hell of a lot more.
Take care,
PK

Another infamous deal from NHL annals:
Blackhawks sent Dominik Hasek to Buffalo for Stephane Beauregard and a fourth-round draft pick.
Take care,

I love Peter Forsberg even though he hasn't been at his best for the Flyers, but I think the Avalanche would have done pretty well with Lindros and Sakic, also.
One of the best trades of all time was when Bob Clarke got Eric Desjardins and John Leclair from Montreal for Mark Recchi, and then got Recchi back a few years later for Dainius Zubrus and a bag of pucks.
That's all from memory so I might have the details slightly wrong.

Robbie Schremp. Wow.

It's a shame that Schremp doesn't spend as much time learning how to play defense and backcheck as he does his trick moves.Gangrel wrote:Robbie Schremp. Wow.

Schremp has gone from can't-miss prospect two years ago to questionable prospect right now. He's sliding down the Oilers' prospect chart because he's lazy and doesn't listen to anyone in Edmonton or Wilkes-Barre who says he needs to work on his skating and defense to succeed in the NHL.

Schremp being lazy and incorrigible was always the knock at him dating all the way back to the day he was drafted.pk500 wrote:It's a shame that Schremp doesn't spend as much time learning how to play defense and backcheck as he does his trick moves.

http://www.hockeysfuture.com/articles/7164Some say he’s a lazy egomaniac who is only destined for disappointment, while others feel that he’s a victim of circumstance, harsh criticism and bad press. The truth probably lies somewhere in between, but for Oiler fans that truth has yet to be uncovered. Rob Schremp firmly believes that he’s been painted with the wrong brush and the time has come to set the record straight.
Stories of Schremp’s apparent lack of character began circulating leading up to the drafting of the now 18-year-old native of Fulton New York. It was those stories and reports that caused his unpredicted slide to the 25th spot on draft day, a shock considering the overwhelming opinion that Schremp was in the top 5 talent-wise.
No one questions Schremp’s potential, but obviously everyone has concerns with his attitude.
This was written back in August 2004. I think the Oilers knew what they were getting and gambled. It now appears it may have been a bad bet.

You're right, Naples. I see a guy like Stortini, who has limited skill but works his ass off every shift. Then I see a guy like Schremp, who is lazy.
Any wonder why Stortini is getting a regular shift in the NHL? Sure, his fists help. But the guy would skate through the boards to help his team if he had to.
Pouliot is doing the same thing. He looked lost and disinterested when he was recalled in December. But he's a different kid since he was recalled last week. Skating hard, making plays, hitting people. It's what's required at the NHL level, and it's something Rob Schremp may never learn.
Schremp will be good trade bait if he doesn't make the team during next season's camp. He will be an excellent throw-in for a bigger deal, as there are many teams out there that will see his skill and think his poor attitude can be overcome. Maybe it will, with time.
Take care,
PK

Nice ceremony by the Bruins last night honoring one of their greats, Johnny "The Chief" Bucyk, for 50 years of service to the organization.
It was brief and full of fun and laughter. The way it should be.
Plus it was CLASSIC to see Bucyk walk on the ice wearing his full Bruins' Indian headdress. A superb snub to the politically correct crowd, whom I'm sure gasped when they saw it.

One opinion I have formed in watching hockey over the years is that work ethic, coachability and desire is a talent every bit as much as fluid skating or innate passing ability. If I were an NHL GM I think I'd probably have a cold rule against drafting kids with a questionable ethic in the first few rounds, no exceptions. Sure, you'd miss out on some kids, but in general I don't think they're worth the risk.

Yep. Otherwise you're stuck with Alexandre Daigle, Patrik Stefan, Brian Lawton, Radek Bonk, Jason Bonsignore, Dave Chyzowski and their ilk ...

Not sure that Bonk really fits in with the rest of those guys mentioned. Granted he's underachieved but the rest of those guys were busts in every sense of the word. Bonk will end up playing in the magical 1000 games and have over 500pts when all is said and done.pk500 wrote:Yep. Kluzak was not a bust...injuries should not count.

What about Schremp and a 2nd round pic for Eric Brewer? Would the Oilers do that? The Blues are trying to work out an extension for Brewer but in this day and age it just doesn't make sense from Brewers side to do that. However he is playing his best hockey under Andy Murray, probably his best in sometime. When he wants to he can dominate a game with puck control and he can actually manhandle guys down in the corner and front of the net...he just doesn't do it often enough. I would love to see the Blues resign him and he says he wants to stay in St. Louis but for some reason, I just see him being moved.
Tkachuk is as good as gone as he's willing to waive his NTC to a contender and I think Guerin will probably be dealt as well. Guerin's problem is that he's got way to much value right now and can probably command a pretty good return in a trade. He could be dealt to a contender for a ransom..he's looking at a possible 35 goal season. He could end up resigning with St. Louis in the offseason if the price is right.

The guy has put up 70 points ONCE in a season in his career. Not exactly big numbers for a supposed offensive wizard who was drafted third overall.tjung0831 wrote:Not sure that Bonk really fits in with the rest of those guys mentioned. I would. The Oilers' blue line is SO bad, except for Staios.tjung0831 wrote:What about Schremp and a 2nd round pic for Eric Brewer? Would the Oilers do that?
Let's make a deal!
Lowe is really walking a high wire here. He's holding out, waiting for the right deal. But if the Oil loses three or four more games on this trip, they will be out of the race and go from buyers to sellers.
I'm almost starting to think EIG (ownership group) has written off this season and has told Lowe to sit tight until the Oilers are out of contention near the deadline and then to sell, sell, sell. There's no other explanation for why the Oil couldn't have put up the money for Stuart, especially since division rival and archrival Calgary was the other suitor. I think the Oil has more cap room than Calgary.
Take care,
PK

Last night's loss was gutting. Ryan Smyth sounded pretty pessimistic in his postgame comments, saying something along the lines of "From going to within one game of the Stanley Cup to missing the playoffs, that's a deep, deep hole ..."Sudz wrote:i think the oil think they can sneak into the 8th spot and then make a run.
Carolina and Edmonton both "rented" well last year near or at the deadline. Spacek, Roloson, Samsonov and Tarnstrom were just what the Oil needed to go from a mediocre team to a very good one. Carolina got Weight and Recchi, and who would have guessed that Ward would have blossomed in net when he did?Sudz wrote:i think the hurricanes are going to miss the playoffs. they are just an odd team.
Unfortunately, the B that Lowe wanted -- Stuart -- already is gone. I think the Blues' Brewer is the primary target now, if the Oilers remain buyers. There's also a rumor swirling that Edmonton is eyeing Souray, but I'd be surprised if Montreal lets him go now, even though I think he's a UFA after this season.Sudz wrote:if lowe wants to deal...he should call Boston....they may have changed GMs...but the dumb deals continue....
Honestly, I'd rather have Brewer. He'll be cheaper than Souray, who is having a career year. Plus Brewer is three years younger.

PK
