Best: "Handful of almonds keeps Robert Goulet away."
Worst: Tie - the two Internet startups - bigdaddy.com and that sales lead place. Man, if I'm working for either I'm dusting off my resume. Here's guessing they'll both be gone by spring after blowing that wad on utterly inane ads.
Other than that, though, I thought a much better-than-normal crop with few outright stinkers.

I liked the Robert Goulet one as well, but my favorite was the first Bud Light ad where the two guys played rock, paper, scissors for the last Bud. Loved that one.
I'll agree with db, worst year in recent memory. All the car ads sucked as usual, but I did like the one Coke ad where they mimicked Saint's Row.
I'll also agree that Prince was fantastic. Saw the dude back in 1984 and he doesn't look like he's aged a day. He can play the sh*t out of a guitar, too. Great halftime choice. I like what they're doing with the halftime shows lately. The Stones, McCartney, and now Prince. Sure beats the hell out of Janet Jackson, Justin Timberlake, or JayZ.

Well, it is the first time I've seen the game with ads in three years so maybe I missed some great stuff.
In addition to Bud, I thought the Coke ads were also all pretty good. The Garmin map monster wasn't half bad either.
Yup, and that was the first halftime show I can remember that wasn't total cheese. Leave it to the guy from Minnesota
I must have missed the Snickers commercial...what was it?

You mean godaddy.com? If you do they're a pretty big domain name registrar and I don't see them going away any time soon.Blublub wrote:bigdaddy.com

Agreed. The only ad that made me even chuckle was the "Cleanup needed in aisle 6" Doritos ad with the fat checkout chick. The rest were mediocre to awful.dbdynsty25 wrote:I thought it was a horrible year.
Like Jack said, the worst round of Super Bowl ads in recent memory. Brutal.
Prince did rip. The man can play an axe like few others alive.
Take care,

the problem with most of the ads, is that you have no idea what the product is....
that one where everyone was slapping each other......What the heck product was that for????? Don't these advertising execs realize that it doesn't matter how great the commercial is if there is no product recognizement.

All I know is that I don't remember a single ad outside of the FedEx shipping one where they were on the moon. That's the only ad I remember from the whole night. It's a bad year when there is only one that I remember.
Come to think of it...FedEx is the only one I remember from last year too...where the scene took place in the prehistoric era and some guy shipped a bone by teradactyl and it was taken out of the sky by a bigger dinasaur. I guess FedEx is the only company doing good work as far as my memory is concerned.

I Agree with the comments about Prince. He was the best half time show that the Superbowl had in a long time ago. I guess truly artist are are in extinction.pk500 wrote:Agreed. He usually plays wireless, so there's nothing but the small battery on him. He's not hooked up to the amp directly. As for the mic, I'm not sure how they prevented him from becoming fried.lexbur wrote:I know I'm a total idiot, but can you play an electric guitar in the rain? I figured he was faking the guitar and lip-syncing, just because of the rain. Wouldn't using all that electrical equipment (mic/guitar) be dangerous?
If he wasn't faking it, I'm impressed...

U2's show from Red Rocks on the "War" tour, from which the "Sunday Bloody Sunday" video was shot, was played in a torrential storm.lexbur wrote:I know I'm a total idiot, but can you play an electric guitar in the rain? I agree with everything except his music choice. Where was "When Doves Cry", or "Little Red Corvette"? Doesn't he have enough hits that he doesn't have to cover other artists?emelki wrote:I Agree with the comments about Prince. He was the best half time show that the Superbowl had in a long time ago. Yeah, I read a post at another forum today asking why Prince didn't play "Darling Nikki." LOL.dbdynsty25 wrote:See as how Little Red Corvette speaks about used condoms and whatnot, I doubt the FCC was on board with that one.
Besides the FCC, Prince also became a Jehovah's Witness in the last few years, so I don't think he plays as many of the racy songs anymore.
He played the Foo Fighters' "Best of You" as a nod back to the Foo's cover of "Darling Nikki."
My only request would have been "Fury," off his new record. His performance of "Fury" last year on "Saturday Night Live" nearly burned the studio to the ground:
