D. Wells hasn't been on the team in years. Now he's just a fat, washed up pitcher. Vernon on the other hand...yeah, he's good.

Now, why doesn't this surprise me about J.D. Drew?

Looks like the Brewers are going to have a decent rotation this coming season. Still, I think signing Suppan to a 4 year deal is a bit much.

Barry Zito just crosses the Bay and signs with the Giants on a seven year term.

Must be a California thing...weren't they the last ones to give a 7 year deal to a pitcher. Kevin Brown. Wait, the Rockies gave a 7 year to Mike Hampton as well I believe. Both of those turned out wonderful for the signing teams. Zito is dependable...like Maddux, Moyer or Glavine or the other soft tossers that have been around forever....so he may be alright.

Zito is a durable guy, he's only 28 years young. Both NY were interested in him as well, I guess R. Johnson is going nowhere now that the other lefty is signed up. It depends on what package Arizona has for the Yankees.

Should be a pretty good move for Zito, going to a pitcher-friendly park in the NL. I think he would have been a disaster for the Rangers or Yankees, some of his peripherals suggest his low ERA is a bit of a mirage. The dude has had a freakish ability to strand runners over the past couple years.

Absolutely... I mean the guy has to rear back just to throw an 88 mph fastball. If something goes wrong with Zito, it won't be because he broke down. I do watch the guy and wonder sometimes how the hell he manages to win so many games, but he keeps on doing what he's doing. Seven years is probably too long to sign *anybody*, but if you're going to do it then Zito is an okay guy to give it to.

Sucks that the Mets didn't get him. But that's a TON of money.

Wow.... my sister was in AZ the week that RJ threw his perfect game and she brought me home a jersey. I only got to wear it a few times before he was shipped to the Yanks. It very rarely works out this way, but I get to wear it again!

If the deal goes through, it'll be a home sweet welcome for RJ. He pitched some incredible games there and was virtually untouchable in the NL. Since that incident when he shoved aside a reporter in NY, Johnson never really felt like he was in command for the Yankees.

The only problem is that the perfect game was in Atlanta.

Yeah, I know you schmuck... :D There was still a lot of hoopla surrounding it there, which is why my sister was compelled to buy it. I didn't mean to imply she was at the game, my sister doesn't know a baseball from a volleyball.

Now just need to get one of those funky home caps... another $30 down the drain at neweracap.com.

Yada yada. Their new Unis suck ass. Get a throwback cap (if there really is a throwback to the early 90s, lol).

Ripken and Gwynn get in. Gossage was close and Rice a little further behind. Mark McGwire finished 9th.

I am not sure if I would have voted for McGwire - not because of steroids, but because his body of work - beyond home runs - just didn't add up to HOF to me.

Are people seriously crying that Ripken didn't get 100% of the vote? To my knowledge no one has gotten that ever. I think if Ruth, Aaron and Cobb didn't get 100% of the vote, then Ripken surely didn't deserve it.

It doesn't bother me that Ripken wasn't elected unanimously.

It does bother me that Paul Ladewski makes a big deal about turning in a blank ballot. He's within his rights to do so as an elector, but using it as a soapbox makes it about him, rather than the players. It also makes him look like a tool,

For some reason, Neil Young's classic "The Needle and the Damage Done" seems to be a fitting, just soundtrack for Mark McGwire today ...

Take care,

Nothing like squeezing the home run king between an alcoholic womanizer and a murderer. Are their busts side by each in Cooperstown as well?

I agree that people don't get in unanimously, but i always want to know from those writers (8 in this case) who the other names were. You just know one of them had Jay Buhner, Ken Caminiti, and Dante Bichette on there.

Well he is an idiot, I heard him on Mike & Mike this morning and he sounds like a jealous SOB. He actually said he vever votes for anyone on the first ballott because he is fighting for the integrity of the standrs set by others.

I'd love to know how these guys get votes and why they aren't taken away.

Do they vote on the old timer players this year or is that next year? (Guys that the writers don't vote on but the old timer HOF group does)
