Big deal...anyone with eyes could have seen thatRobVarak wrote:Poor taste to quote yourself, but as I was saying.RobVarak wrote:All due respect, but the Seahawks are much less scary to me as Bears fan than the Cowboys and the Saints. Beating up on the Packers at home is no sign that a team is healthy, and that Seahawks OL is still poor IMO.

As for RotY...A kick returner has won a SB MVP(Howard XXXI)...why not the rookie award?
For the record... Im not predicting Hester wins it..Im saying thats who I think should get it...All it takes is some imagination which is something that cookie cutter sports writers lack.
He is definitely deserving, and if he was playing more on offense or defense, he would be a shoe-in. But I think folks feel that a rookie coming in and producing on offense is more impressive than a rookie who makes a half dozen spectacular plays on special teams.XXXIV wrote:ScoopBrady wrote:WTF is that guy smoking? It's also hard to say if he's more valuable than Vince Young. Hester's probably given the Bears 2 victories (Arizona and St. Louis) and helped change momentum in the Giants and Vikings games. They would still be a winning team without him. But Young has rejuvinated a Titans team that has no business being competitive, playing the most difficult position for a rookie.
As a Bears homer, I hope Hester wins, but I won't be upset if he doesn't.
Sorry for the confusion with the old offseason threadpk500 wrote:Damn Vince Young! So long playoffs, so long season for the Bills.
I must admit, I was a bit of a Young doubter entering this season. Thought he was a poor man's Ron Mexico.
Now I think Ron Mexico is a poor man's Vince Young.

I agree with you about Vince Young. After a couple of more games I have seen the light and I am convincinced. He is My new choice, he should be and will be the Rookie of the Year.
Im not trying to bash Vick, as I think he is a special player in his own way, but Vince Young is starting to look like the player most of us thought Vick would be.
Hawks-Chargers was a great game to watch. Both Tomlison and Alexander fought hard for their runs and the 1st half was like a chess match, great D and butterlike fingers for the receivers of both teams. At one point C. Rivers was like zero for 10 attempts. But he completed a pass where it most mattered towards the end of the game. Tough loss for SEA, third in a row although they still clinch their division title with SFO losing.
This Chargers team is one team to watch in the playoffs.

Man, the AFC playoffs are going to be intense. There are 4 or 5 AFC teams that won't make the playoffs but could probably be 2 or 3 seed in the NFC. I guess that stuff is cyclical because it used to be that opposite way in the 1990s. I can't even pick a favorite out of SD, NE, and Baltimore and Indy can still compete as well. The two wildcard teams won't be easy outs either. I'll be rooting for Indy and SD and against Baltimore and NE.
What a miserable season for the Steelers. Some days I am optimistic about the future (almost everyone back next year, hopefully better luck for the QB, mid round draft picks, some younger players with another year under their belts, a 3rd place schedule in 2007 replaces the BRUTAL 2006 schedule that had 11 of 16 games against playoff teams or teams that went into week 16 alive for a spot) and other times it seems grim (possibly a new coach, tough division, Polamalu and Ben had poor seasons, Willie Parker a bad fit for offense, secondary still weak in spots, lack of team discipline, etc.)

He did seem to have his good games against the NFL's weak defenses and the bad ones against the better D's....Whats troubling about last nights game is that I wouldnt consider the Packers to have one of those good defenses.dbdynsty25 wrote:Guess you didn't look at the Bears schedule the first half of the year.Inuyasha wrote:Can't believe this is the same Rex Grossman that was lighting it up first half of the year.
Falcons fire Jim Mora Jr.: http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=2716540
Not that Mora was the greatest coach in the league or anything, but who in the hell are the Falcons thinking they can bring in that is any better? If you look around the league at potential HC hires, there aren't many decent candidates who would want to inherit the job and still risk getting fired for hovering around .500 in spite of having some fairly lackluster talent on the roster and a meddling owner. It's not like Bill Cowher is available or anything (at least not yet).
Owner Arthur Blank expects the team to win right now, and is infatuated with sticking with Michael Vick at QB. Vick has a ridiculously high contract given his lack of results on the field and flagging signs of improvement. One of Mora's primary tasks when he came on board was installing a very QB-friendly offense to help expedite Vick's development, and now Vick will likely have to learn yet another new offensive scheme. Whoever the new coach is will have to deal with the fact that ownership is not going to allow Vick to be benched or traded. You can't get away with pampering and protecting a single player at the expense of the team in the NFL - there are 20 other starters that are vital to the success of the franchise.
On top of that, the defense is anemic and in need of an infusion of young talent and needs to develop chemistry. Blank's insistence on signing an oft-injured veteran malcontent like John Abraham didn't do them any favors.
On the good side, they still have the underrated Rich McKay at GM (provided he isn't sh*tcanned next) as well as a fantastic rushing attack. The NFC South is weak outside of New Orleans, and next year's schedule should be middle of the pack.
Denny Green got bum-rushed today too. Even though you'd have to work with Bidwill in the valley of the sun, that job is looking more attractive than the Falcons right now with all the young talent on board in AZ.
Speaking of programs being quick to pull the trigger on canning a HC, Bama is "officially" now offering the job to Nick Saban after running Mike Shula out of town for one weak season after being on probation the past 2 years. Saban is crazy if he takes the job at Bama IMO - talk about a schizo fan base - but maybe enough money will change his mind?

Cowher's young but he's been at this post for a long time. Supposedly he built a new home in the Carolinas.
Didn't Favre look like he'd played his last game, just didn't want to announce it right then? Of course he could change his mind, especially if the Packers aquire some major talent. But they have to develop their long-term QB some day.
Dennis Green is reportedly gone too.

He says he wants to spend time with his family and be at more of his youngest daughters high school basketball games but part of it is also money and if he is offered a large enough contract extension then he could be back.matthewk wrote:Can someone shed some light on the rumors of Cower quitting/retiring? I've heard it mentioned a few times, but why? The guy is still young for a coach, and just won a Super Bowl lat year.
A lot of the players and media seem to think he is going to quit, probably take a year or two off and then a team such as the Redskins will offer him an outrageous contract to come back to coach.
The two leading candidates to replace him are Ken Whisenhunt and Russ Grimm, if Whisenhunt doesn't get the job then he could end up coaching his hometown Atlanta Falcons.

Calvin Johnson should just order his Lions jersey now.Leebo33 wrote:So which receiver will they take in the draft?icvu42 wrote:Lions are keeping Matt Millen for another year. How is that possible?
I really can't believe it. Is this like Major League where they are trying to suck enough to move the franchise?
Wow! So Saban bails out on the Fins and heads to 'Bama? I thought things were looking up in Miami, and they seemed headed in the right direction in the later part of the season, though I didn't really see them play much this year. Guess he figured Spurrier-like that he couldn't hack it in the NFL.
Now what for the Dolphins? Maybe they'll do me a favor and hire Greg Williams away! HA!

There's a local talk show host who is convinced if Saban goes to Alabama, in a roundabout way that means Tressell is coming to the Browns.
The way he sees it... I'm not exactly sure of the details, maybe one of you hardcore OSU fans would know better than me, but there's some clause in Tressell's contract that if he wins the National Championship this year, he has to be at least payed a certain percent of what the highest college coach is being paid, and he figures OSU will never come close to paying him what Saban's getting, so he will be able to get out of his OSU contract, and since money's no object to the Browns owner, he'd make Saban's salary look like chump change... and since Tressell's a local guy... and besides, how many National Championships can a guy win before he wants to move up to the next level?
Who knows?
Not that Tressell would solve all the Browns problems or even be what they need at this point, Romeo doesn't seem to be in any real danger of getting the axe anytime soon, it's just an interesting scenario...

I heard Alabama was offering like $50 million to Saban.
How is that even possible?
That's got to make him the most highly-paid state employee in the nation.
AL could do better with its education system. It's probably ranked in the bottom quintile.
But they got that kind of money to throw at a football coach? Yeah I know college football generates huge revenues. But if the institution is receiving state funding, hard to imagine this won't raise some hackles.
OK, I see the offer is $32 million over 8 years guaranteed with various bonuses. Again, if this is mostly state money, that's hard to fathom. Sure he'll get a radio or TV show. Then he'll get money from boosters and Nike and so forth.
His Dolphins deal is $4.5 million a year for 3 remaining years. So he must have saw potential for a bigger payday, even if nominally, the contract is "only" $4 million a year.

It's easy to pony up that cash for a football coach when you're paying teachers minimum wagewco81 wrote:I heard Alabama was offering like $50 million to Saban.
