The Worst Games Of 2006
Well, since there's a nice thread going already about the top games of 2006, I figured a nice companion piece would be a thread to discuss the flops of 2006. I vote for:
Most Disappointing - Madden 07 (360) - When I found out that Tiburon had still inexplicably left out the ability to edit players, I swore I would not purchase this game. After an extended rental, and reading about the similar experiences here at DSP and at OS, I'd have to say that was a great call. The fatigue issues, online problems, muddy frame rate, clipping, and the absense of features add up to this year's most disappointing sports title. At least NCAA 07 on the 360 has a working fatigue model and allows complete roster editing. I'm happy to see that some gamers have found a good game to enjoy under these issues, unfortunately I cannot.
Dishonorable Mention - NBA Live 07 (360) - The only thing keeping this from being this year's most disappoiting sports game is the fact that the bar was even lower for the 07 entry after the weak next-gen debut last year. Seriously, all I was expecting for this year's edition was that EA would fix the abyssmal frame rate, tack on a rudimentary franchise mode, and fix the horrible cameras. Now I'm hoping EA pulls the plug on Live 08 and extends the production cycle to work on a Live 09. What a disaster this franchise has become.
I can't think of any non-sports games that were as disappointing as these two right now - at least none I played personally.

Over G Fighter-- Holy hell what a giant pile of crap that thing was. Where there have been some good flying games (Blazing Angles, Crimson Skies), i was geeked to see Ubisoft put out a fighter jet game. And then i played it. It was in my library for less than one week. Shortest stint of any game ever. It's no wonder this thing hit the sheves with virtually zero press/fanfare.

For me its Fifa 07 for 360 , might be the most frustrating game online ever .
Gotta wait for the game to register a button press but in the mean time you needed to do 6 other things so you end up with 3 cued up moves , its utter crap even singlre player is crap, cant head the ball of a corner or goal kick with any frequency .
Who would go out of their way to trap a ball of a corner when its clearly on the head.
Just too much bad things in the game to even be called a game never mind a simulation of Football.
I only got it for online with my brother in England and we cant even do that as its so not fun.
Its depressing.
So , worst game of the year and dont try to convince me different. Im not listening lalalalalala.

Wow, I don't see that at all. The rest of the games on the list I have no argument, but FIFA is pretty good this year, and it's light years above the other EA games in terms of online connection (it's the only EA game that I consistently can play lag-free).Jimmydeicide wrote:For me its Fifa 07 for 360 , might be the most frustrating game online ever .

I shared your pain Rally. I was hoping for something like "Ace Combat"
but for the 360. Boy was I wrong.

Why do you say that D? Yeah, I like NHL07 better, but I thought 2K was a pretty solid offering this year. The new camera angle and the updated graphics certainly would never make me mistake it for an original xbox game. The core gameplay remains the same, but it has remained the same for the past 5 years pretty much. My complaints were regarding the heavy reliance on one-timers to score and the super goalie syndrome.
But I thought overall, it was a pretty solid game that I could have been happy with, had there been no NHL07 around.

Thanks Jack, you summed it up perfectly for me when you said this:

NHL 07 is the only Hockey game that I've played where I didn't have to rely on onetimers to score. I've scored various ways in this game be it rebounds dekes or wristers from the point & the slot.

Madden really took several steps backwards on defense.
That doesn't even account for the fact that the lead blocker is a gimmick which doesn't work and which nobody uses after people tried the novelty for a few weeks.
Watch them promote 2008 with better defensive AI, "fixing" things which had been fixed previously.

Another vote for NFL Head Coach. I know it was a first effort, but the gulf between this game and something like Football Manager spanned centuries.
NHL 2K7 for the Xbox wasn't one of the worst games of the year, but it was one of the biggest disappointments for me. It was NHL 2K6.5. Very little work was done other than roster updates. Same game, different year.
Take care,
PK

It might be lag free but it played like itwas on 56k with the button response.seanmac31 wrote:Wow, I don't see that at all. Im glad you liked it. But what else was good in it?
Lots was good in it. The dribbling is fantastic. The ball physics are much improved. There are minor fouls galore. The team and player styles are more accurately reflected than in any previous FIFA. There's a lot of good in FIFA.Jimmydeicide wrote:It might be lag free but it played like itwas on 56k with the button response.seanmac31 wrote:Wow, I don't see that at all. Yeh Peter Crouch was as good at dribbling as Henry, real good.seanmac31 wrote:Lots was good in it. The dribbling is fantastic. The ball physics are much improved. There are minor fouls galore. You cant tackle hard without a yellow or a straight red, which takes tackling out of the equation. Playing in the prem without the ability to go in hard pff come on.
Anyways dont wanna spoil it for you i just dont see it, ill say no more.
Well, the Premiereship is an eyesore for just that reason, so I can't say it troubles me much that the gameplay doesn't reward English "GRRR!!!" play. There's no way in the world that Crouch is as good a dribbler as Henry- the difference between a top notch player with the ball and a regular player is more distinct than WE9, honestly.Jimmydeicide wrote:Yeh Peter Crouch was as good at dribbling as Henry, real good.seanmac31 wrote:Lots was good in it. In any event, FIFA doesn't belong in the same hemisphere as NBA Live 07 when we're talking about broken games.

I agree 100%...Bad is bad...not up to expectations is dissapointing and they are two very different things.PRBoom wrote:Wow, c'mon people. I know these are opinioins, but let's not confuse "bad" with "disappointing".
NHL 2K7 360 is not a bad game. You may feel disappointed by it, but it's not bad. Bad is MLB 2K6 which is full of bugs. Bad is NBA Live 07 which is... just terrible.
Even though after owning both I chose NHL07( beacuse its different and I think more fun...I hate the ridiculous 1999 frame rate) NHL2k7 is not bad at all.
Id also like to add Madden to that dissapointment list....Its not a bad game ...just not as good as I would have liked it to be.
My worst game is MLB2K6.
