Not sure if this is what you seek, but I bought this last year for $10 on eBay, and it works very, very well for all of my S-video hookups:

I'm pretty sure he's looking for one with component cable connections, not just regular S-Video. And to answer Sports question...no, there wasn't a consensus...I have almost given up.
I have been using an old standard S-video connector for my component devices, connecting the cables through the video and two audio ports. I have noticed no degradation of the signal, having tried as best as I could to compare the signal coming through the switcher and directly to the TV.

Obviously, this device doesn't handle sound, but I've seen no artifacts or degradation to the video signal through this purely mechanical switcher.

I used to do that to Zep. Any composite switching device will work with component signals (most of the component only crap is just a way to get people to pay more - just like the 'premium' HDMI cables). Still, I need audio-source switching and preferably something with discrete IR input selection so that I can program my Harmony 880 to control it.

The POS I bought fit those requirements, but I wasn't expecting internal circuitry so piss poor that it couldn't hold a signal on one input.

Guess I'm waiting for after Christmas and an expensive new SS Receiver. I'll probably have to go back to using the Wii with composite cables until then. Hate to do it, because Madden is like a different game with Component.

What about S-Video for the Wii? That should be a tad better than composite, if not much.

True, S-Video would be a better option. After paying $45 for the Component and waiting 3 weeks to get them, I'm not sure I'm ready to NOT find S-Video cable options out there either.

The biggest gripe I have with Nintendo's launch plans is the woefully inadequate supply of accessories.

It's a good thing for Nintendo that these are problems you typically only notice AFTER purchase, otherwise the hype-machine might take a ding.

Still, I love my Wii. I just want it to look as good as possible (which is still poor compared to my 360).

Question fellas. Since GC controllers etc work with the Wii, will my S-Video cable that I currently have work as well?

Madcatz is taking pre-orders for their Component cables. 19.99 (+7.50 for cheapest shipping option) and they ship Dec 13th.

I noticed this morning that my extra Wiimote still has the blue light lit up on it, as if it didn't shut off. I did play a two player bowling game last night, and shut down the system with the original Wiimote controller.

I've tried pressing the power button on the Wiimote and there's no response. Any suggestions short of removing the batteries?

Different A/V connection so, unfortunately, a Gamecube cable won't work.

Everybody's idea of expensive is different, but if I was in the market for a new AV receiver, this one might be on my short list to check out.

Rented Marvel Ultimate Alliance a couple days ago and outside of the "shake" motion, I don't feel like the motion controls get in the way and I really like the feel of using the nunchuck for movement/jumping/blocking. The graphics weren't nearly as bad as I expected but these games aren't that awesome looking on the 360 or PS3 either.

Now I just need UPS to actually deliver my damn component cables instead of "tried to deliver" notices, despite checking/signing the notice so they'll drop it off.

I figured about $1,000, but this one looks to be worth the extra $500 or so.

Thanks for the suggestion, it wasn't on my radar before. The only downside is the high likelihood the presence of the Cross-Media bar interface in my home theater will have in pushing me towards adding a PS3 to my Wii60.

I could be wrong but isn't "Butterfly Photo" one of those shifty online stores that offer you a great price but then require you to CALL them before they ship just so they can try and sell you a million accessories. Some of these places even slap on a ridiculous shipping fee AFTER you have placed the order. I would check up on it before you make any purchases from them.

Wife was watching Dr. Phil and it's his holiday giveaway show. One of the items that everyone in attendance received was a Wii. Good to know the regular person can't get one but 300 people who probably don't even know what a Wii is will have one at home tonight. Ugh.

Downloaded two of the new Virtual Console games last night--Gunstar Heroes (Genesis) and Ice Hockey (NES), both appear to have some fun left in them, particularly Gunstar, one of my favorite Genesis games.

I'm interested in trying out two of this week's releases--the golf game from Tecmo and Elebits. Should be interesting to see how the controller adds to the experience.

I'm looking forward to reading about both of those upcoming games. Elebits sounds like it could be a great game for any age gamer.

Does the wavebird work with the Gamecube games? Also, can you use the Gamecube controller to play the classics you download or must you use the "classic" controller that I can't find anywhere.

Yes to both. A lot (all NES and TG16 [no turbo], some Genesis) of VC games also work with the Wii remote.

Can you download demos of these old-school games like you can on Live Arcade?

No demos, which sucks. It would be cool if it worked like the old Vs. arcade games they had where a quarter bought you a specific amount of playing time on a game.

My guess is that Nintendo knows some of these games, particularly some of the early NES stuff, don't hold up very well and they'd lose a lot of money by providing a downloadable demo.

That sucks. Being Nintendo though, there's a large portion of the games I remember well and don't need a demo for but there's some I missed that I wouldn't mind checking out. I won't pay to check them out though. I am all over Ice Hockey when I finally get my Wii. 2 fat guys and a skinny guy for the win! How great would it be to be able to play these old games online?

Dave, how does the WiiMote get used for NES hockey?

The remote is turned sideways and then it resembles an old NES controller.

Where are people finding Wii's? I still haven't had any luck. I've only seen them in the store one time over the past 3 weeks and they were all spoken for.
