Sports Game of Year: MLB 06 The Show (PSP) - Most baseball I've played in a loooong time. Runner up - NBA2K7 (X360).
Non-Sports Game of Year: Battlefield 2 - Does this qualify, or is this last year? I still have fun running/flying/driving around shooting cyber people and blowing things up. Runner up: Rainbow 6 Las Vegas (X360) Single Player or Online, this game is damn fun.

My initial reaction was NHL 07 for the 360. Then I started thinking that I wasn't sure if it deserved it because it wasn't perfect or close to it by any means. That got me thinking about what other games deserved GOTY and every game I came up with was just a more refined version of a previous iteration. NHL 07, IMO, totally redefined how hockey games are played and should be played. If 2k doesn't make the switch I won't even look at it next year.
There's plenty of work that needs to be done (improved AI, tighter defensive control, steady framerate) but the fact that it made me feel like I did playing the NHL games on the Genesis despite its flaws sealed the deal for me. NHL 07 is my sports game of the year for bringing the fun back into sports gaming and changing the way hockey games are played forever.
Non-sports games: Gears of War, Viva Pinata

I am a patient boy.
I wait, I wait, I wait, I wait.
My time is water down a drain.

Football Manager 07/ Worldwide Soccer manager. Still the best. No other game can come close to this in terms of playability and features. Yes it might be a text based game but other than graphical play it has everything you could want.
Plus I can't stop playing it. Too bad FOF doesn't have half of the options of this game or I would be playing that as well.
Honorable Mention -
NCAA 07 XB - It was the best football game of the year.
NBA 2k7 - Had team styles and player styles something no other game, in any sport had.

My picks are the same as Scoop's with similar reasoning, plus with MLB the show getting a close runner-up nod for sports game.ScoopBrady wrote:My initial reaction was NHL 07 for the 360. Yeah, I agree with Scoop and I'll say NHL07 (360) too. As far as runner-ups and honorable mentions I'll go with: Winning Eleven 9 (xbox), Tiger Woods 07 (360), MLB The Show (PSP), NBA 2K7, Test Drive Unlimited, and Madden 07 (PSP) in roughly that order.
Oblivion is the best non-sports game I played this year, but I've also really enjoyed Lego Star Wars 2, the New Super Mario Brothers, and Brain Age.

For me it's pretty straightforward. (And this is assuming consoles)
Game of the Year: Test Drive Unlimited
...because...I....can't.....stop....playing..... (up til 3AM the last two nights, and not by intent!) Put in probably 50 hours so far and at about 75% complete (see my gamertag - Ringbearer)
I'll grant you I have not played GoW yet (Gamefly just shipped it out to me after being on 'short wait' since its release.).
There's no reason score-wise I should give TDU the nod. But the fact is, I think about it...I dream about it...I play it every second I am allowed to... Maybe when I've 'finished' it I'll cool off a bit, but if they keep adding new things to it...I dunno man...

With all of the love given NHL '07, I was looking to maybe pick it up on the PC.
When I checked Best Buy for the price, I saw the 360 price at $29.99. Not sure if it has always been this price, but thought I would pass it along.

Pete its not the same game on pc as 360 its all about the controls on 360.
Ive only played psp version of current gen 07 and its pretty similar too 06.
Oh and my game of the year is Winning eleven 9, i finaly got into master league and i love it , playing in the champions league is just awsome, domestic cups , great.
Got kits for 360, nothing touches it.
Runner up is NHL07 360, simply the best way to control hockey.
A few tweaks and this game could be an all timer , the goal scoring is Winning eleven like already if they stay on track and keep it sim any sports fan would be a fool not to give it a go on next gen.
