Another hockey writer -- James Mirtle from the Globe and Mail -- who says Tallon is the problem, not Yawney:

TOR traded their backup goalie M. Tellqvist for T. Nash who's been wondering in the minors. He's not worth much today but the Leafs also get a 4th rounder next year. The Swede should help the inconsistent C. Joseph.

Tellqvist is a pretty interesting player: he'll play tremendous one night and the next he seems like he doesn't know what he's doing out there. His rebound control is seriously lacking as well.

It's a good deal for Phoenix because maybe Tellqvist just needed a change in scenery. He has some upside, as you cats pointed out.

With Nash, you know what you're getting -- an instigating, grinding forward who is a borderline NHL player but more than likely will stay in the AHL. Nash is Darcy Tucker without much skill.

Take care,

F*ck. The Oil gave away two points tonight against Ana-f*cking-heim. Ducks tie it with 17 seconds left and then win in OT.

I don't know if Jason Smith can play any worse on D for Edmonton. He's really starting to show his age and is on his last contract with the team if his play continues to be this poor. He's just flat-footed way too much, and he can't make a stretch or breakout pass from his zone to save his life.

Then again, hardly any Oilers' defenseman can lead a rush or make a good pass out of the defensive zone. That's where the Oil misses Pronger more than anything. The guy always makes the correct, perfect pass out of the zone to start the rush.

Double-f*ck. I really wanted this win tonight.

And on a more ominous note, Hemsky left the game with a shoulder injury in the first period and didn't return. Uh-oh.

Take care,
PK

PK, I watched the last period of your Oilers game as I was getting ready for my 'Nucks and from what I saw, they were playing rather conservately trying to protect the lead, which in today's NHL is a no-no. The D was a bit thin too mind you, no Staios & Bergeron, but both Smiths screw up last night.

In the night of Boos, A. Carter got his share (I am sure he misses the twins) M. Naslund scored a beauty. The IKEA line is fun to watch, too bad the rest of the team seem to be doing just that: Watch. Come on, we need more goals, but then again when you have a solid night with R. Luongo, one goal will do.

NHL, Bettman to debut new uniforms at January's all-star game.

http://sports.espn.go.com/nhl/news/story?id=2680102

Proposal is to use them league-wide next year.

They "blend fashion with functionality" 8O

I'll reserve judgment, but I can't be too optimistic.

Oh, dear: Don't tell me the Cooperall is returning. Anyone remember those, the full-length hockey pants that Philly and Hartford wore for a season in the early 80s, I want to say 1981 or 1982? Hideous.

I remember hearing about the new Sabres uniforms actually made them the first team to go with the new form factor/look of the new NHL. I am quite troubled by this news, but I guess I'll reserve judgment like G7.

The cooperall's never really bothered me. I was 14 or so at the time, so like most kids that played hockey everybody thought they were pretty cool. I thought the Whalers looked pretty good in the green pants. I really miss that Whalers jersey though. I always loved that road green jersey, that logo was great too. That green and blue combo was good.
I would love to see Vancouver go back fulltime to their original blue and green uni's.

Man, that's no good. The new Sabres Unis are aweful, what wrong with their classic golden/blue one that they wear sometimes this season. The NHL should concentrate on equipment wear and the material that it's made of these days, elbow and shoulder pads that can harm players because they are hard like a rock, fix the games' schedule, etc. Leave the unis alone.

It's in the works Tim. When the team sold the other 50% to Canadian owner F. Aquilini last month, there was a petiiton to get rid of the present Orca logo and bring back the original Canuck Jersey with the colors you described with the logo you see in my avatar. Just a classic Uni. Simple, yet attractive.

That's great news! For some reason I see that logo and colorscheme working real well with the new style uniforms. When I was younger, I didn't care to much for that old Canucks uni but now that i'm older, I really miss it and realize that it was a classic and that's what the Canucks should be wearing.

Looks like former Flames goalie Mike Vernon is going to join Lanny McDonald up in the rafters at the Saddledome. Wow..what an honor for Vernon.

Agreed 100 percent.

What's going to interest more fans, keeping elite players like Crosby and Malkin on the ice and having Western Conference fans see those guys and Ovechkin more than just once every three years, or form-fitting uniforms taken from the extras bin of a production of "Up With People?"

Worst part of that game was Crosby was already out and then the Pens lose Malkin and all hopes of a late comeback were shot down.

The Isles and Pens are getting a pretty good rivalry going in the early part of the season with them playing a lot of games against each other, makes for exciting games between them.

Wow, I don't know if there is video of it out anywhere yet, but look at the Phillips (i think) and Weiss hit in the Sens Panthers game.

Weiss creams Phillips into the boards, and the glass literally shatters into the stands. Apparently some kids in the front row were taken to hospital for "precautionary reasons".....

I saw the hit and that glass was just shattered in pieces. I hope the kid is OK, apparently he was taken to the hospital.

Tough loss for the Canucks. Another 1 goal loss. It's just eating me alive. They played a close game against the best team in the West until they run into penalty problems in the 3rd. ANA is ranked second best in the PP dep't and that eventually was the difference.

Gagne scored a brilliant short handed breakway goal last nigh in the Flyers 3-2 over the Islanders:

Link to the NHL.com video

Mike Rathje is probably going to retire due to a chronic injury. Sounds like's he sick of taking drugs to be able to play and still being in pain on the ice.
