Wii officially $250 on Nov. 19

Some good numbers;
"Other popular items on eBay included Sony's PlayStation 3 -- 14,675 have been sold on eBay for an average price of $1,186.39 from November 17 to November 24 -- and the Nintendo Wii. Since that product debuted on November 19, 26,708 have been sold for an average price of $412.53."

I'm a little surprised to see almost twice as many Wiis sold on Ebay as PS3s, but considering that Nintendo shipped 3 or 4 times as many units as Sony it's understandable.
EDIT: Newer numbers, also highlighting the plunging PS3 ebay market.

F*ck, Trauma Center is intense, definitely glad I picked this one up.
Only one new release on the Virtual Console today--Super Star Soldier, a TG16 shooter. I'm looking forward to Ice Hockey, Pro Wrestling, and Punch Out; hopefully they're released in the next couple weeks.
For those looking for a Wii, the rumor is that Wal*Mart is restocking on Dec. 1.

I can confirm this. My Walmart told me today that even if they get some in between now and December they won't be putting them out until that date. They are apparently getting ready for another Wii "launch"in early Dec.For those looking for a Wii, the rumor is that Wal*Mart is restocking on Dec. 1.

I don't know if it's been covered in this thread yet but I was curious what was included in the box. Someone told me yesterday that the box didn't come with a nunchuk. Is that true? I'm getting one for Christmas (at least if I can get my hands on one before then, if not the first one I find after Christmas) and want to know what else I need to pick up.
I am a patient boy.

You might want to order a component cable if you are going to hook Wii up to a HDTV for the best picture (480p).ScoopBrady wrote:I don't know if it's been covered in this thread yet but I was curious what was included in the box. I'm definitely Wii-curious, but does that release list over at gamefaqs scare anyone else? It looks like kid movie tie-ins for months. I'm sure I could squeeze a lot of fun out of a trifecta of Zelda, Wii Sports and say, Trauma Center, but that's still some serious scratch when I've got a ton of 360 games to play and can still play Zelda on my dusty old Gamecube come mid-December. So tempted! And yet don't want to get burned with a sparsely supported system!
That is a fair concern, as the post-launch lull will hit pretty hard. In the next 3 or 4 months only Nintendo will be releasing worthwhile games.Slumberland wrote:I'm definitely Wii-curious, but does that release list over at gamefaqs scare anyone else? But given that you have all those 360 games to play, how many new titles do you need to be getting? Being a new Wii60 owner myself, my biggest problem will be not having enough time with both systems, not a shortage of stuff to play.
With the new Wii controller there's a few old NES titles that I wish would get the Wii treatment. I think Nintendo's use of the Mii is a great way to squash the kiddie treatment that the old Gamecube suffered from. The Mii allows you to create generic profiles of the gamers that adults and kids could use. I see endless possibilities with the Wii controller and old NES games.
Track and Field - I think old NES button mashers would translate well to the Wii. It would be great to have the long jump, javelin, even archery make a return.
Golf - this could be done better on the Wii. I think it will have to come from Nintendo as EA Sports would not get it right.
Duckhunt - A hunting game could be fun on the Wii.
I'm not saying they port the games over but re-do the games with the Mii profiles. I would play them. T&F was one of my all-time favorite games and I hope we see something like it for the Wii.

Agree 150%, I was thinking about this the other day, only with Konami's Track and Field game....I LOVED that game.Track and Field - I think old NES button mashers would translate well to the Wii. It would be great to have the long jump, javelin, even archery make a return.
The first time I saw it was in 84 at Magic Mountain's arcade.
Here you go with a new Duck Hunt

My xbox live name is "The Zlax45"
I broke down and joined the Wii club after finding an actual non-extortionist deal on Ebay. It's for the kids at Xmas, but being from Ebay and all I just had to try it out to make sure it works. At least that's my story.
Actually I don't know what to make of it. The Wii Sports stuff was insane fun for about an hour. After that the gimmick wore off and I got pretty bored. My wife was still going with the bowling game, however. Still there were more than a few choice words from both of us over the seeming inability to put spin on the thing. Is it just us or does it always have a little spin to the left regardless of how exaggerated you try to spin it in the other direction?
I was hoping to get the online configured before stuffing it back in the box so that they could hit the ground running on Christmas, but after a first round of updates it told me the Wii24 service or whatever it is called was unavailable and that I should check back later. I kept checking but the same message.
It came with Madden, and I popped that in as well (just to make sure the disc worked, mind you). I'm not sure what to make of it. On one hand the motion-controlled stuff is pretty intuitive and makes it more immersive. On the other, you still move with the analog stick on the chuck and I kept pointing the controllers thinking I would move and forgetting to use the stick. Definitely last-gen graphics, or even below that (more like the 2k series on the Dreamcast), and I doubt they will improve much with component cables. Still, it's not unplayable and looks like it could be good fun with some practice.
The possibilities are exciting, but it seems like it cries out for some sort of "magic shoes" or something to track leg motion. Hell, once Larry Flynt tries this out I fear for humanity
I chuckled at the Tommy John surgery comments but am not laughing any more. I seriously think I threw my arm out after one game of Madden. This thing is an ergonomist's nightmare.
Worse, I know what's bound to happen to my big-screen the first time my five-year-old forgets to use the strap. It's not a pretty thought.

Yup, they gotta make those "magic shoes." Seriously, this could be a great workout device.pigpen81 wrote:Agree 150%, I was thinking about this the other day, only with Konami's Track and Field game....I LOVED that game.Track and Field - I think old NES button mashers would translate well to the Wii. Try changing the broadcast channel of your wireless router to Channel 11 if you can. I couldn't access the Wii Shopping Channel until I did that.Blublub wrote:I was hoping to get the online configured before stuffing it back in the box so that they could hit the ground running on Christmas, but after a first round of updates it told me the Wii24 service or whatever it is called was unavailable and that I should check back later. Wii Sports certainly has more than an hour of play to it. I'm up to almost 1000 points in my player rating in Tennis, and matches against the computer can be very intense with fast-volleys and lots of spin.
Bowling has a natural tendency for a little left spin (unless you're my wife, who always seems to get it straight on), but you can DEFINITELY influence spin with a little practice. It's about timing your release point and spin. I can put Right-spin on the ball, and while not as pronounced or easy to accomplish as the left spin, I can certainly get it to go at least half a lane left to right.
Golf is a little too touchy for my taste, but I need to spend more time with it.
Madden has a STEEP learning curve to become comfortable with the controls, but is more immersive once you get used to it. The one thing it SCREAMS for is a FIRST-PERSON view of the action. It would seem more appropriate to have the Superstar cam all the time in Wii Madden, but that's just my take.
Loving the Wii. Loving the Wii60. No doubt a big lull in games awaits (for both systems, really), but I'll weather that storm and pray for MVP Baseball on Wii.

Well, I took the plunge on Ebay, but only because I found a deal that was worth it to me. I scored a Wii bundle, with Zelda and a extra remote. After the seller pays shipping costs, they're going to profit about $50 on the sale. I actually won the auction on Saturday night, but the the reserve was not met, which was understandable because it was definitely less than the going rate. To my suprise, I received a second chance offer email last night to purchase the items for the price I won the auction for. I jumped all over it. I hope to have it by Friday.
What kind of warranty is Nintendo giving out of the box, is it a 90 day or 1 year deal?
