Yes, it looks like the game will ship on Feb. 6 or 7, so we should be able to get a Seventh season in on the Xbox version before then.

If things go as scheduled, the first half of season Seven would be Christmas Eve, so even if we took a break then and took our time to finish it, we should be able to complete it before the 360 game drops. Perhaps the extra time would also allow us to do a second League Cup competition as well, concurrent with the Seventh season.

The plan is to just roll the league right into the 360 version of the game once it arrives in February. We'd have to do a whole new team selection process, including a fresh breakdown of the teams into Tiers, but there's no reason we couldn't just keep the divisions going the way they end up after Season Seven.

I'm sure we'd lose some guys, but we might gain some new guys as well, particularly since there doesn't seem to be any traction for a FIFA07 league or anything.

Finally, yes, I am out of town and unable to play my games until early next week, but I have my laptop, so I am still checking in and posting here. It's good to see games being played, but Mo, Jared and Snate are conspicuously far behind the rest of the group.

Roma traveled to Madrid this evening in a much anticipated rematch. The first leg match ended in a 0-0 draw and both teams felt they had chances to win. The second match lived up to the hype as both teams played aggressive football.
Ronaldo opened up the scoring with rocket inside the box and scored another from the spot after Raul was taken down in the box. Replays showed that the penalty was a bit questionable, but nonetheless, Real went into half up 2-0. Roma came out firing in the second half and pulled one back just 5 minutes in as Totti hit a low line drive into the lower right corner. Any attempt at an equalizer was cut short as Guti was able to capitalize on a defensive blunder to put Real up 3-1.

RMA 3 - ROM 1
17 Shots 16
8 SOG 8
2 Corn 4
48 Poss 52

Goals:
RMA: Ronaldo (2), Guti
ROM: Totti

no cards, no injuries

Man City Suffer Defeat At Home to Lazio

Post by Zeppo »

Manchester City FC 0 : 2 SS Lazio

Man City fell to Lazio at home in the Italian side's first game of the season, as DiCanio scored two goals in three minutes in the first half. The first score came in minute 29, as the left winger received the ball outside the corner of the box, and with pinpoint accuracy from a tough angle ripped a right footed shot that curled away from David James and tucked right into the top corner of the goal, just inside the near post. In the 32nd minute, a nice pass beat the offside trap and DiCanio cooly tucked the ball past a charging James to double the visiting side's lead.

City could never get going throughout the match. Mistakes were plentiful, both in defense and with posession of the ball, and despite changing out B.W. Phillips for Fowler in the second half, and moving Sibierski to the right wing, they still couldn't muster much of an attack. A few chances from A. Cole were close, but meanwhile Lazio hit the crossbar once, and had a number of good chances from just outside the box. At one point, DiCanio tussled with Miles in the left side of the box and somehow the ball popped free. From an impossible angle, he smashed a shot that beat James, but sailed just wide of the far post.

Man City 0 : 2 Lazio

SoG 9 : 17
SoT 6 : 7
Corners 1 : 6
Fouls 10 (11) : 5 (9)
Offside 1 : 4
Poss. 51 : 49

no bookings
no injuries

Heck of a game, Mo. Those two goals came so surprisingly and so quickly. I still think on that second one, he was offside! I'm sure of it! :) Good luck through the season, and I'll look for the rematch on Thursday. I'll PM you and we'll figure out a time.

Blub - you can take over my 1-0 AC Milan squad. I am swamped right now and it is tough for me to find the time.

Match Report

Newcastle 3 Aston Villa 3

SOG 19, 13
Tar 10, 6
FK 6, 8
Cor 5, 3
Offside 0, 1
Posses. 48, 52

Newcastle: Ameobi (30', 89'), Shearer 41'

Villa: Angel 47', Phillips 52', Samuel 80'

No bookings or injuries

A furious shootout saw Newcastle leap out to a two-goal lead, fall behind by a goal and only pull even in the dying moments. This drama opened with a laser shot by Shola Ameobi in the 30th minute. Ten minutes later, Michael Owen drove into the area and dragged two defenders and GK Sorensen off his line. Rather than finishng, an unselfish Owen dragged the ball back for Harry Shearer, who just beat several defenders to the ball for the finish.

But the resillient visitors never lost faith. Shortly after the re-start, Angel worked a dazzling give-and-go with Phillips and blasted home the first for the visitors. Just five minutes later Angel lashed a long shot off the woodowork right into the path of a stampeding Phillips, who slammed home the equalizer.

Samuel delivered what appeared to be the winner in the 80th minute. Angel played a short FK to Samuel from just outside the area. Samuel lashed the go-ahead goal past a diving Given.

Newcastle attacked furiously down the stretch, but it appeared to be in vain until the 89th minute. Ameobi rumbled down the center of the pitch. One of the Villa Center Backs strongly shouldered the midfielder only to see the beast of a man shrug off the challenge, continue into the box and fire past a beleaguered Sorensen for a deserved equalizer.

Great games, Jared. You clearly got comfortable at the wheel of your new club after that first game. Good luck the rest of the way.

Yellow card - Parker

Behind the exploits of Owen and Shearer, Newcastle came to Haze Hills and defeated Aston Villa 3-1 in their home opener. Poor finishing plagued Aston Villa as they couldn't find the net...and when they did, they found Shay Given.

Aston Villa 2, Lazio 2

AV LAZ

Angel 65
Phillips 82

In a pulsating second half, Premiership new boys Aston Villa gave up a last minute goal to play Lazio to a 2-2 draw. Di Canio opened the scoring in the 59th minute, lashing a cross in from short distance. Angel responded shortly afterwards, scoring on a short shot from in the box. Villa looked to put the match out of reach, as Phillips scooped up the rebound from a shot off the crossbar by Angel to take a 2-1 lead. But the visitors responded instantly, as Manfredini blasted a shot from 25 yards out that deflected off the keeper's glove, the inside of the post, and in.

Good games.

League beware! This play is apparently the cornerstone of Jared's plan for world domination. :)
