If you want to get messages from people or see Miis on Parade you have to share your Wii code (listed on the first page of your address book) with friends, both people have to enter the code in their address book, and then set your Miis for traveling. I'm adding my Wii console code to my profile if anyone's interested. Maybe we should start a thread to keep track? I'm game.

Thanks for the explanation of the Mii Parade, I'll add my code to my profile this evening.

Anyone else NOT having the blue LED around the disc insert light up? It blinks for a second when I turn on the unit, but other than that I've never noticed it light. Can anyone comment on the behavior of their light and/or any settings that might affect this (I just want to make sure I don't have a bum unit, since I know that light is going to be used to communicate content/messages etc. in the future).

Thanks!

That is the way it was designed apparently. The only time it lights up is when you have messages waiting and the system is in standby mode. Other than that, it just seems t flash briefly when you turn it on or insert a disc.

Anyone added a friend to test the messaging part? None of my local buddies were able to pick one up yet so I haven't seen it.

Damn it looks fun. So how bad of a parent would I be if I got this for my 4 1/2 year old for Xmas? Mind you he has never touched a video game.

Not sure its the right thing to do--but damn it looks like we'd have fun.

It's a better idea than getting your wife a bowling ball with your name engraved on it ;) (Anyone catch the reference).

My son has been playing the Xbox since about 5 years old. I don't think it's bad parenting at all, as long as he's not glued to it all day. We do have to "pull the plug" on him a lot, as he can get in a zone where I'm sure if we left him, he'd play until he fell asleep :)

At least with the Wii you should be able to find some games more appropriate for him. I don't what I'd let my son play if all we had was a 360. Maybe Star Wars Legos, Ultimate Alliance, and some BC games. The only shooter he plays are the Star Wars Battlefront ones, but there isn't any blood flying around in those.

My 'step daughter to be' was actually out of breath from playing Wii sports. That's a good sign!

I would love a special tennis racket remote, baseball bat remote, golf club remote. All of those could easily be done and add even more FUN to the Wii Sports type games.
They could do it REALLY easy. Just make a little slot for the Wii controller to slide in...then all you really have to do is make a plastic mold that it will fit in. No electronics even necessary.
This already has been done with an aftermarket wheel. A company made a wheel, and the Wiimote slides into a holder in the center of the wheel.

I read about it on IGN, and there were pictures. Wish I remembered when so I could search for the page in minimal time.

Take care,

Amid all the grumbling about exclusive licenses, microtransactions, and high price tags comes a console that is affordable, innovative, and still looks like it will have games with depth.
Exactly why I bought and am digging the DS Lite. Nintendo knows how to deliver fresh, carefree fun, and it looks like the Wii is doing the same.

Have fun, Matt!

The Ubisoft GT and Monster Truck racing games each come with a steering wheel 'shell' apparently designed by Thrustmaster.

The GT game has generally been panned in reviews, but I'd like to give it a rental. The lack of analog triggers definitely hamper the racing game experience though, so the Wii is probably more suited for arcade-style racers.

Did you see it? it's a guy waiting in line for Wii who hasn't slept for 5 days cause he was so excited for the Wii. He is somewhat incoherent and kinda funny.

The link seems to go to the GT main page... Maybe this link will be better?

Edit: Nope, can't seem to get a direct to the clip... Just look for the Superfan vid under the Wii vid list...

For those interested in graphical sharpness when using different cables;

As far as I can tell, the component cables do help to clean up the blurriness quite a bit.

I tried Metroid Prime using the Wavebird controller - no problems whatsoever. I don't have anything else to try, but cheap used GC games, here I come!

Same here. I picked up a couple of GameCube games I always wanted and they seemed to work flawlessly.

Also played two player Wii baseball for the first time......That was the most fun I've had on a videogame console with another person in a very long time. Sounds mushy but it made me remember why I fell in love with videogames in the first place.

I think they'll be around after tomorrow. A lot of stores have them but are saving them for "Black Friday".
