I tend to agree with PK. SJ already has the best 1-2 center combo in the league. Even if you take the injuries out of the equation, why add another $5 million center?tjung0831 wrote:I see it just the opposite. Spectors is talking about this now as well. Also the Ducks might be involved now as well. Philly is looking for a goaltender and the Ducks have recalled David McKee from their minor league team. Anyway it looks like where there is smoke there is fire, so I guess we'll see what happens. I believe Forsberg has a no-trade clause so highly unlikely he would waive to play for anyone that isn't a contender. The Sharks and Ducks are contenders, Colorado not so much. We'll see what happens, if anything. I'm sure there will be all kinds of conditions on this trade with regards to how many games that Forsberg ends up playing wherever he goes.

The Ducks make WAY more sense than the Sharks. The Ducks have trouble at times scoring goals and creating, so a healthy Forsberg could help there. But again, the caveat -- a healthy Forsberg.
Plus, with Niedermayer, Pronger and Selanne under contract, how much cap room does Anaheim have?
The only thing San Jose has going for it is a disposable top-line goalie, which Philly wants. Either Toskala or Nabokov could go. But honestly, I think SJ would get ripped off if it dealt either of those quality goalies -- a commodity in the NHL -- for a guy who is beyond injury-prone and may be past his prime.
But since San Jose and Anaheim are rivals of Edmonton in the West, I'm all for them making the deal, giving away either a quality goalie or young talent for a guy who might not make stay on the ice through March. Go ahead, pull the trigger!

Georges, I love you, but you're full of sh*t. Teams have fighters; they just don't have goons any more.10spro wrote:G. Laraque states something I envisioned a season ago.

Take my Oilers, for example. All of these guys have dropped the gloves and went at least once this season on the Oil: Jason Smith, Greene, Winchester, Reasoner, Torres, Staios, Lupul and Thoresen. But the common thread between all eight of those guys is that they're players first, but players who can and will drop the gloves.
That's the new NHL. Only multi-tool players need apply. One-dimensional goons are dying, and the game is better for it. As long as fighting never disappears, and it won't, I'm fine with the new direction.

Also kind of ironic that Georges is only tied for fifth in the NHL for the number of tilts this season, yet he's crying about the lack of fights:

This was a thriller game last night between BUFF-TOR. Sabres are the best team I've watched this season. The game was close until the last 2 minutes when they added a couple of empty net goals with the Leafs on a PP but watch the 1st goal by D. Briere on a PP and particularly the no look pass to him. R. Miller returned to the lineup and he was huge. A beauty to watch!

The kid is a great player but he has to learn to keep his head up. With Malkin out and Crosby still suffering from groin pain, PITT is missing some fire as they' slipped a bit this past week.

Hawks fire Yawney today and name Savoir Faire the new coach. I like this move because I think the Hawks should have a better record even with all the injuries. Havlat will be back as soon as the next game. Hopefully things pick up.

I think Yawney got screwed. Injuries are a part of the game, but Lord, the Blackhawks have been without Aucoin, Bourque, Handzus, Havlat and Lalime and the Bulin Wall. Those are some significant losses.
And the Blackhawks still competed despite those injuries. The Hawks skated hard all the way through the game against Edmonton Friday night despite losing 5-1. I was impressed with the team's gusto.
This seems to be a fan support move as much as anything. Bring back a Hawks' legend, Savard, behind the bench, and he is promising a much more up-tempo style.
Ironic, considering Savard has no head coaching experience at the pro level and that the Western Conference has become much more defensive-minded than the East. Who cares -- it's Denis F*cking Savard!
I wish the Hawks well. Hockey needs to thrive in Chicago, one of the Original Six cities.
Take care,

The Hawks were a hard working team under the tutelage of T.Yawney but those significant injuries did play a role. During the recent Canadian tour, the team took too many penalties and turned the puck over too often, qualities often associated with the inexperienced of the young players.
Even with Havlat soon to be back it maybe too late to turn the season around in this tight checking conference.
I doubt Savard will have any immediate results, not with this depleted team that other than Seabrook, Ruutu, Havlat and the Bulin wall are pretty thin in talent.
Now, NYI will miss the other Russian as in A. Yashin, (he was having a good season) with a knee injury.

Tallon apparently is shopping NHL GM's for quality centers, and the return conversation starts with, "OK, we want Seabrook as part of the deal."
As the boys on "Satellite Hotstove" said last Saturday night, Tallon would be nuts to deal Seabrook. He and Keith form an excellent defensive nucleus in Chicago for a few years to come.
But if Tallon is willing to trade Seabrook, Edmonton has a surplus of quality forwards ...
Take care,

I don't think Yawney got screwed at all. There's no doubt that he got the team motivated but they were very undisciplined under his regime and extremely sloppy in their own zone. One thing I think Savard can bring to this team is better defensive zone play. They've gotten better at playing defense but their breakouts are terrible. If Savard can clean some of that up and cut down on the penalties I see the Hawks making a run with Havlat back.

Can you imagine tomorrow night at Rexall?10spro wrote:Something tells me that on tuesday night the Rexall center will jammed packed with one solid chorus of boos directed at a particular player.

The jury is still out on Savard as a head coach, that's for sure. Tallon probably could have hired a head coach with experience too. All that said, Yawney still needed to go. The Hawks have been the most penalized team under Yawney and very undisciplined in their own zone. Not very creative in the offensive zone without Havlat this year and all of last year. If Savard can sharpen up their passing lower the penalties this will go down as a good move. If he doesn't then Tallon and Savard will both be gone. The most frustrating thing about watching the Hawks this year has been the bad passes that cost them possible scoring opportunities in the offensive zone and giving up quality scoring chances for the opposition with sloppy passes in their defensive zone.pk500 wrote:Looks like Scott Burnside of ESPN and I agree on the Yawney firing:

I thought the Yawney hiring was a bad choice at the time. As an ex-Hawk I like Yawney, but I just didn't think it was a good idea to hire the coach of the minor league team. Sure, he has experience with the young players but they were still playing like they were in the minors. The yound players associate him with the minors so it's not surprising.
In the end it doesn't matter who the head coach is if they continue racking up the penalties and tripping over themselves in the defensive zone. I'd be curious to see what Sutter would have done with this years team. IMO they should have never let him go.
