Guitar Hero2 gets a 95 on IGN

Post by JackB1 »

Impressive review on IGN.

Who's picking this up this week? It's the main reason I have held onto my PS2.

And it is well deserving of that rating. I was able to pick up a copy on Sat. and it is absolutely great.

I have started a career on "hard" to just open all of the songs and then start trying to complete thema all on "expert".

The format is the same with some more options for character stuff (outfits, new guitars, new characters, ect...).

I was only able to get the game itslef on Sat. and not the whole package with the controller so I have not been able to test out multiplayer. I will get the guitar tomorrow.

So far, there have been a few songs that just didn't grab me on the first - third tier of songs (at least on "hard" difficulty). But the ones that are good more than make up for it.

Personal favorites so far..."Carry on My Wardward Son" - Fun as HELL!!!

"Message in a Bottle" - Cool rhythm in the guitar line.

"Monkey Wrench" - Very fun fast chords and strumming.

Spooky........is the game enjoyable without the guitar controller? I dont really have room for a huge piece of plastic in the living room.

Absolutely not. Totally defeats the purpose. The interaction with the guitar controller is what makes the game.

These are all assumptions of course as I have never attempted to play the game without the controller.

The 360 guitar shown in this past month's Game Informer looks pretty sweet. It's based on the Gibson Explorer. It also has an add RJ12 expansion port that conceivably could connect to future peripherals.

HOLY s***!! This game is worse then crack!! I never played the first one. Just listened to others rave about it. So when I finally decide I needed to get it, I find there is a new one coming out within a month.

So the day has finally come and I want to go buy the first disc too LOL. If it weren't for having to change a shitty diaper and feed the kid I would not have put this axe down :)

WOW...Just wow is all I can say!

Now if I could just get past playing on the easy level I would be happy. The medium is still a tad to much for me at this point!

STRUTTER!!!!!

It's the reason my 10 year old still has HER ps2. I'm telling you everyone loved the first one and this one looks to be even better. I'm getting a 2nd guitar so the little one and I can play together. FUN!!

I don't own a ps2 anymore but watching a video of Them Bones by Alice in Chains on Gamespot has got me dying to play this game!

yep its fun as hell!

Now someone have any advice for hammer on and pull offs? I suck at them and this game LOL. I am having a blast though. Maybe I am expecting too much for a beginner? I can do a few songs to like 80-90 % on medium. I think just like the first few. I tried message in a bottle and failed pretty damn quick!

I am surprised at the lack of talk about this game. Didn't anyone pick it up yet? There was so much pre release talk and then nothing???

I think most that have picked it up are veterans of the first game, so while the game is good (at least IMO) we've used up most of our ecstatic exclamations already. ;)

I'm actually slightly let down by the song list, though, especially towards the end of the list.

Tried this game at futureshop (CDN) and was blown away. Guitar felt great and being able to put together a nice string of notes in Wolfmother's "Woman" was extremely rewarding.

Found this pic of the 360 guitar.

Not til spring Jack.

I was at Microcenter yesterday and they had this game out for demo. I played a couple of songs and the kid working in the games section watched me the whole time in awe. He said "I've never seen anybody that good at this game before." I felt like a rockstar again! I didn't let it get to my head though since I was playing on medium. :D

I wonder if most are going to hold out for the 360 version of the game?

p.s. Hope you are feeling better these days Scoop.

I am, and let me tell you, it's really hard. I was tempted to pick up a PS2 again just for GH and GH2, but my wife would probably have me committed if I repurchase a console I got rid of. Plus the possibility of downloadable tunes helps. I will definitely purchase as soon as it's out for the 360. They had a playable demo at one of the European game shows last month, so I would think it will be available pretty early in 2007.

Me and my friends were talking about this game last night and it looks like one of them is going to cave and get it for PS2. I am going to wait for the 360 version though, as I will finally move into next-gen gaming soon.

It's a fantastic sequel. Many aren't raving about this one as much because all the things we said about the original apply here.

The new options of bass & rhythm in co-op is a vast improvement over the co-op in the original title. With a friend, you actually do feel like you are rocking out in a band (albeit an incredibly nerdy one).

The quality of the new song list compared to the old one is debatable. As a whole, I think I liked the songs in GH1 a bit more, but the emphasis on songs with more flashy guitar work in GH2 might make it more fun in a video game setting. Bottom line: with 40 licensed songs, I think there's definitely something for everybody.

Side note: For a developer that went to great lengths in recreating every f***in detail of a Kansas song as if it was Beethoven's Fifth, what was up with them jazzing up the solo to "Heart-Shaped Box?"

Blasphemy.

G7 and I had a chance to rip though a lot of the songs in co-op mode yesterday, and it was an absolute blast. The bass/rhythm split they have this year is just *SO* much better than the 2 player 'share-the-song' they had going on in GH1.

Also, they did a really good job with the on-screen activity with two players. :) I was just grinning stupidly at times.

Great game.

Anyone see any BF or other deals on GH2 anywhere? I would like to pick this up but was waiting for a deal somewhere. I haven't seen it less than 80 bucks anywhere.

jack.....did you have the first one? If so just pick up the game alone and use your old guitar. I think it goes for 39 w/out the guitar.

A little update from me. I am in the process of getting 100% on easy songs and I only have a few songs left to 5 star on medium. Trying to work my way up to Hard and adding that dreaded orange button LOL.

I am still loving this game and my uncle has picked it up too. I cant wait to try out the co-op now :) This game is really just pure gaming JOY!!

Co-Op os absolutely fantastic.

Played through career on Hard and now I am about 70% through Expert and it is getting really tough. I am deathly afraid of Freebird on Expert. 8O

any tips spooky? I am about to make the move to hard and add that orange fret. I have tried a few songs on hard and while I failed a few, there were a few that I passed with low 70% scores.

Just practice. That's about all it takes along with natural rhythm and coordination.

GH2 seems a bit more unbalanced than the first in regards to difficulty. Some are a breeze on hard and expert on while others are really tough, all within their respective difficulty level groups.
