My god you guys really need to relax. Kaz can say whatever he wants...you guys can say whatever you want. Why is this so difficult to understand and comply with. If you disagree with him, fine. I do all the time...yet there isn't a reason to go back and forth, back and forth for all eternity. Hell, he HAS a 360...I think some of you forget that sometimes. If he wants to defend the PS3, fine...he's allowed to. I mean really...are you guys that offended that someone, in a PS3 IMPRESSIONS post and Launch Thread, is defending Sony?

And, being an Xbox fanboy myself (only partially joking, but I'm definitely not opposed to getting other systems if they wow me, see the Ipod I just got as the biggest example), I will agree that this is a XBox centric board. That's not a generalization...it's a fact. I guarantee that MOST people here have an Xbox or a 360 as opposed to a PS2 or a PS3 right now. At least if we count the regulars who post here daily (who knows with all of the lurkers).

It's just annoying that all of these PS3 threads turn into a bunch of bickering. I realize that there aren't any real impressions so people just go off on tangents, but come on.

And no, I'm not a saint...so I'm clearly not talking from a soap box...probably whatever the opposite of that is is more appropriate. But just let it go. Kaz is just telling the other side of the story whether you like it or not. And Scoop...seriously, your hard-on for Kaz is ridiculous. Let it go.

Well, it's frustrating to me because, and I even told Jared this after the last time, I don't roll out of bed with the intention of starting long ass thread wars to make his life miserable. When people formulate decent replies to me, I will always do the same... every time. I have always been like that.

I'm sorry that I snapped at Scoop... it's not like he gets paid to moderate an Internet message board. And he did say that I was entitled to my opinion initially. I'm just tired of being singled out for arguing, when by *definition* you can't argue with yourself. I'm not singlehandedly carrying the dialog on by myself. I'm also tired of people mistranslating what I say. I am a very direct person... if you want to know how I feel about something, just ASK me. I have no reason to lie on a freakin' message board. I did say, DAYS ago, that there might be a few "fanboy" types on this board but I named no names and implied no one. There is no way I ever said at anytime this is an Xbox fanboy board. I also said that while I said that, I wouldn't bring it up anymore. Nobody had a problem with this when I originally said this.. suddenly, it's a huge problem. Anyways, let's just please carry on. If you don't like what I say, just don't talk to me or ignore me. I guarantee that I have never harrassed anyone on this board for replies or for some kind of dialog. I might reply to something you say and quote you, but if you don't respond that will be the end of it. I won't get mad if you ignore me.

Kaz, I don't have any problems with you debating the PS3 and its good points. That Xbox comment you made followed by the thread comparing I outlined in my earlier post can be taken wrong. I should have posted the Xbox comment in my earlier post as the thread comparing on its own doesn't make much of an argument. I'm sorry I left out the other quote but a lot of people took your comment that way and weren't too thrilled by it.

I also warned people not to personally attack you and that you are entitled to your opinion. I stand by that. I just want one @$%#ing PS3 thread to stay civil and informative. I don't think that's too much to ask for and I'm not saying you're to blame.

I'm wondering if I should make a rule where there's an instant ban if anyone calls anyone else on these boards a "fanboy". And this isn't picking on anyone in particular in this thread....it just seems like these things devolve whenever people stop addressing the arguments of the other person and start calling others fanboys or saying that they're biased. So for now...I don't care if you think that so-and-so is biased or is a fanboy or whatever. We can talk about consoles by discussing the ACTUAL MERITS/PROBLEMS of the damn things, and not turn it into this something personal.

And if someone wants to send me a PS3, I will be more than happy to discuss it in an unbiased, even-handed manner. :)

It seems that the NY Times is not very happy with the PS3. The article makes many valid points concerning the PS3 though.

One vote for locking this thread and starting one that is ONLY for PS3 impressions. Might want to make it a sticky for a while as it appears no one at DSP owns one.

Fanboy is just a word. If anyone gets offended by being called one, then they should grow a pair and tough it out.

I'm a huge Xbox fanboy. I'm a DS fanboy. I'm a Wii fanboy, and I imagine as soon as I hook it up, I'll be a PS3 fanboy.

Make that 2. I mean it does say "impressions" (when you have the PS3) and other than Badgun no one else has it. It's been 5 pages of crap reading.

Well, that's sort of the issue. It's hard to have much in the way of impressions when no one has the actual system. I'm sure a few of us can chime in about our experience with a demo unit, but beyond that...

I'm still waiting, after 6 pages, of 1 godamn impression. Holy frickin' cripe.

Hey here's some good advice. If you don't have an IMPRESSION, as the title of the thread CLEARLY states, DON'T POST.

Didn't you just post without an impression?

I played the Motorstorm demo at a kiosk the other day at Walmart. Graphically it looked really nice. Not $500 - $600 nice but I was impressed. Gameplay wise it seemed kind of slow and floaty. The new R2 and L2 triggers worked really well for the gas and brake but they don't have a lot of throw so I'm not sure how precise they'll be in a true sim racing game.

Since the controller was attached to the kiosk I couldn't get a really good feel for how light the controller was. Impressions from various web sites have said that it's actually too light but to me if felt just like a PS2 controller with the R2 and L2 extended out into triggers.

The menu system looks and acts just like the PSP menu so if you have seen that you know what to expect. It responds quicker than the Xbox 360 dashboard but there it is a lot less to the interface so I guess that is to be expected.

I know there's not really anything here that you haven't read elsewhere online but since I did actually play a PS3 I figured I would post an actual impression in the thread. Overall, it seems like a quality system and when the games I want are there or the price drops I'll probably pick one up.

Don't have a PS3. My impressions on Motorstorm is that it is one crappy game. The control isn't too bad, but I bounced around the track and destroyed my car by hitting something (which I couldn't see what it was). No clue why. Not much in the sensation of speed department (the first person driving view was unplayable IMO). Not a very good offroad racing.

Also watched someone play the NBA game. Again, not impressed by what I saw. 2K7 looked alot better on the 360. I assume that 2K7 is coming out for PS3 as well so hopefully it will be a competent port.

I just turned down the opportunity to get my hands on a PS3 to make an impression - or a profit. My wife called to let me know that there was one of the $499 versions available at Target (Super Target in Duluth GA).

Supposedly they will have more in on Friday.

I would have grabbed it and played it for a bit and then sold it, but I have 2 vacations to pay off and didn't feel like killing my credit card even more. Besides, I would have had to buy the component cables and at least one game and it would have been more hassle than I am interested in right now.

It is not just that I am an Xbox fanboy, but having lived through the issues of one next gen release and waiting for the games to catch up with the hardware, I have no interest in doing it again. I am perfectly happy with all of the games i have for the 360.

Maybe it is dumb luck, but a year ago it took me a month to find a 360.

I posted my impressions of the Motorstorm retail demo about a week ago in the Official thread. Agree on the floaty feel, although most offroad games where the vehicles can get airborne feel that way to me.

You have to build up speed but there's not much opportunity to do so on the demo track they had.

Supposedly, the demo you download is different than the retail demo and supposedly a later build. Who knows? But someone posted a screenshot of his setup with that demo running and it was showing motion blur so it appears to be possible to get up to speed in the game.

This game should be held to some high expectations. It was also one of the E3 2005 demos which people question.

I played some Motorstorm and some NBA 07 at Target and came away underwhelmed by both. I couldn't get much of a sense of how the dual-shock would feel as a wireless/tilt-sensitive controller. It basically just felt like a slightly smaller, very lightweight PS2 controller. Motorstorm isn't really my kind of game, but I gave it a few minutes. I agree with other people's impressions- the graphics were crisp and nice (although not a discernible step up from the 360 in any way), but the control was floaty and the game didn't have much of a sense of speed. I would have much preferred to see a next-gen Wipeout, but c'est la vie. NBA 07 was frankly terrible. It played poorly and, perhaps more damningly, it didn't look very good. The replays were nearly NBA 2K7 caliber, but the actual in-game stuff looked like something between current and next-gen. I've heard that the 2K7 port to the PS3 is one of the stronger titles, and I can't imagine any reason for anyone to grab NBA 07.

I got to see the PS3 outside of a demo kiosk for the first time last night. It was on a 60 inch Sony Wega I think. Not sure if it was 1080p or 720p. First thing I noticed was the graphics while very good, looked no where near as sharp as on the demo screens at Target. Of course this is due to the larger screen and the fact it hasn't been pimped out to show such sharpness.

I didn't get much time with it at all, it was a party and he had two controllers. All people wnated to play was madden (which played identical and looked a bit worse IMO). I did get to SEE Resistance and it looked very cool, I still think to this point GOW is the best looking game i have ever seen, but Resistance looked the best out of the 3 games I saw.

Since all i got to play was madden there is not much else I can comment on. I did see the GUI but can't comment on its use. The machine is bigger then I thought and is very quiet.

Anyway I tried to keep this to my thoughts on what i saw / tried and add nothing else. Not sure this will help anyone whatsoever though :)

I can imagine the strategy meeting for this one - "OK, to increase sales of the PSP and get people to download outdated PS1 games for an outrageous price, let's force the consumer to buy a PS3."

Transfer only from the PS3 to a memory stick to play on the PSP? I guess I can see this from a piracy perspective, maybe. Once it's on a memory stick what would prevent copying the data from one stick to another? I'm sure Sony knows what they are doing technically to protect their intellectual property, but this does stink. Thank goodness there aren't many, if any, games I'd want to download.

I think the price is ok... I had heard earlier as much as $15 which I thought was stupid. The Final Fantasy games, Tekkens, Metal Gears, and lots of others are worth $10. The PlayStation/Saturn/Nintendo 64 era to me is the beginning of modern gaming, with production values that formed the genesis of the games we play today. A lot of those games will hold up, and proved decent value for a new generation of gamers. I don't like the nickel an diming for old ass Castlevania, Contras or Duck Hunt games though... that's just crap. Those games should be 99 cents or ideally, freebies. But PS1, N64 and the original Xbox Live Arcade games (non retro) I don't mind paying a few bucks for.

I have heard that Sony plans on making the PS1 games for the PSP available for download on the pc. They just launched it with the PS3. As a PSP owner since launch I'm pretty pissed about it because it was originally announced as a PSP thing and it somehow shifted to a PS3 thing.

Yah, it sucks that Sony is pushing the PS1/PSP emu on the PS3. Makes no sense, but whatever. If you don't mind to mess with Homebrews, I am sure this thing will be cracked, or someone will come up with a better PS1 emu for it.
