If that makes me an X-Box fanboy...so be it!

Thanks seanmac, I knew you could do better.seanmac31 wrote: Sigh. Fine, I'll address your issues, such as they are.
It's not a blog, it's an article in a newspaper. I don't like the fact that the 360 is white; I'm not going to go posting in a supposed "hands on impressions" that it's a bad point. The one time plug in of the wireless controller and the text messaging had no business being in any serious article of that length (i.e. not in-depth). The HDMI cable complaint is fine, and even relevant.seanmac31 wrote:Evidently, you don't care for the fact that the writer didn't like plugging in the PS3 controller. Such things mean nothing to you. On the other hand, you can charge the PS3 controllers without buying an add-on. This is arguably a system-seller by itself. The notion that Sony should have included HDMI cables is, apparently, a product of the notorious Xbox-wing media. The writer doesn't have a problem with the 360 messaging system. You do. Therefore...soemthing. Have I missed any issues yet?
He implied that the 360 downloaded in the background from Day One, and never made any mention at all the 360 had numerous software patches for its "deficiencies". But why would he, he's cherry picking points that the 360 has over the PS3 while doing none of the opposite. I do agree that the PS3 should be able to do it out of the box to match what's out there, but if M$ needed 7 months to get it and they're a software company used to desigining multi-tasking OSes, can Sony have longer than a weekend?seanmac31 wrote:The writer also noted that he didn't need to sit there watching his 360 download content, which is true. Evidently you took issue with this because there was a time when it wasn't true. Only that time isn't now. But because the 360 launched with this problem, it is perfectly acceptable for the PS3 to launch with it, even though the PS3 is launching a full year later. I'm not sure why you are so insistent that the PS3 only be compared with where the 360 was a year ago as opposed to where it is now. If the PS3 wanted to be compared with what the 360 offered at launch, then it should have launched back in 2005. It's roughly like arguing that Xbox users should have been fine with waiting a year to play GTA 3 even though PS2 owners were playing it because the Xbox still had more time before it was "GTA 3-ready" or some such thing. If Sony fixes the download issue in a week, then it's a minor niggle. But it would be negligent of the writer to not point out the various areas in which the newest, latest, greatest console is in fact not matching the features or services of a console that is a year old.
Not sure what you're talking about here.seanmac31 wrote:Then, after listing the myriad issues with which the 360 bothers you and where it should presumably emulate the PS3, you then complained that other people are spending too much time comparing the PS3 to the 360. Does that about cover it?
Absolutely, and I still feel this way. Won't even be close, when it's all said and done.seanmac31 wrote:More generally, you've tended to post the following arguments in between the steady hail of pro-Sony PR pieces:
1) The PS3 will blow the 360 out of the water because casual gamers only want to go from one Playstation to the next.
You're in error on that one. I don't think Microsoft is bad per se, although they have done bad things. Generally speaking, I like both their hardware and software. If I could honestly choose who I would want to win for the betterment of the industry, it would be tough to choose: M$ and Nintendo with their monopoly issues, or Sony with their "arrogance"?seanmac31 wrote:2) Microsoft is a bad, bad company, and they've done bad things in the PC world, so it's all for the best that Sony is going to blow the 360 out of the water with the help of the casual gamers.
Here's an impression thread started by a guy who imported one from Japan to Europe. He's also in other threads talking about online and other things:kevinpars wrote:Maybe it is because it is so hard to lay hands on one, but what i want to see is a breakdown of the system as purchased. What comes in the box, how it all fits together. Maybe even photos of the back side of the console where you can see the inputs/outputs. There were tons of this sort of thing with the 360. I would like to see one for the PS3 - the tech geek perspective.
I don't need anyone to tell me what it can/can't do compared to the 360. Tell me what it does and I can figure the rest out for myself. Surely one of the major gaming websites can do something like this, right? Are there websites comparable to the Xbox fan sites like Xboxscene.com and teamxbox.com??
A tech review without a lot of bias or an agenda. Nuts and bolts.
Right, and then if you buy the HD-DVD add-on?James_E wrote:$200 price difference between Xbox 360 and PS3 at launch. For that $200 paid to XBL you get almost 3 full years of Xbox live. Not much price difference then.wco81 wrote: Yes Sony's only experience will never be as nice as XBL (but he didn't mention the price difference).
Not to start trouble, but I don't agree and I don't see why your opinion is any more valid than mine. I never called out the whole forum, I said I do think there are some here. I had no intention of repeating it again, but I do wanted to make it clear that I didn't call out the whole board in any shape or form... and I won't be calling anyone out subtly or indirectly either from this point on. I don't even consider being a fanboy to be an insult for the most part, as everyone has things they are fanatical about. I guess I could lie and say this is the most open-minded board I've ever come across, but I don't think that's what people want is it? It's my opinion, nothing more and nothing less.ScoopBrady wrote:

True.. I forgot about the BluRay/HD-DVD. That does make a difference. But for just gaming... seems to me the PS3/360 are on par for price.wco81 wrote:Right, and then if you buy the HD-DVD add-on?James_E wrote:$200 price difference between Xbox 360 and PS3 at launch. Oh right, MS is giving you a "choice."
And if you don't pay for XBL, you've chosen not to be interested in online.
What did you mean by this then?Kazuya wrote:I never called out the whole forum, I said I do think there are some here. I had no intention of repeating it again, but I do wanted to make it clear that I didn't call out the whole board in any shape or form...
I really don't see the point in perpetuating these two big PS3 threads anymore... this is an Xbox board
sigh... I've made this point over and over. I said this is a board with mostly people who play xbox and that is not a good or a bad thing. If it's not in this thread, it's in one of the others... the one where I said counting on one hand about the PS2 or whatever.Danimal wrote:What did you mean by this then?Kazuya wrote:I never called out the whole forum, I said I do think there are some here. Seems a pretty nonassertive observation, not necessarily a value judgement.Danimal wrote:What did you mean by this then?Kazuya wrote:I never called out the whole forum, I said I do think there are some here. LOL, who are you responding to? You know, there is such a thing called "quotes" that really help these discussions along.....wco81 wrote:Whom did I call a fanboy?
Where am I defending Sony? Just because I don't agree with with your negative characterizations? You're ready to feign outrage at things I don't consider significant.
No, you called the whole board out as a whole. Unless you think comparing the length of the Gears of War thread to the Shadow of the Collosus thread wasn't a broad generalization. And you'd have to be awfully naive, and think I was too, to think that calling someone a fanboy isn't going to provoke people on a gaming forum. I don't buy it Kaz. Quit causing trouble and quit insulting my intelligence by hiding behind smug responses such as "Not to start trouble, but I don't agree and I don't see why your opinion is any more valid than mine." This is your MO around here. Say whatever you want, provoke certain members, act innocent and like a victim. You've been warned. Feel free to file a complaint to Jared if you'd like.Kazuya wrote:Not to start trouble, but I don't agree and I don't see why your opinion is any more valid than mine. 1. How do you know this? Both systems are remarkably similar in power and capabilities. They are also competitive on gaming features. I think at this point, many DSPers have gone on record (myself included) that they aren't interested in the PS3 AT THIS TIME because it does not offer them anything they can't already get on their 360's. The other piece to this is that most of these same people stated that if they did not have a 360 already, the the PS3 would be much more appealing. Alot of things can and will happen between now and a year or two from now, so I don't think I buy your assessment because it is WAY too early to make any judgements about how the next generation landscape is going to look.wco81 wrote:1. If we polled who has which system now and also a year or two from now, it's probably going to be overwhelmingly on the side of Xbox.
2. Even without verbalizing this preference, the votes with the dollars say enough.
Consider it filed then, because that's ridiculous. It was *clearly* an example that because there wasn't that many threads on what was universally considered to be a great game, that people here didn't have PS2s to play it on. How does anybody get me calling the board fanboys out of that? I'm tired of your bias and picking on me because of whatever issues you have with me, when you never had anything to say to me when you weren't a mod. I liked you as a mod at first because I felt like you were the exception that mods needed to be detached, but I guess I was wrong.ScoopBrady wrote:No, you called the whole board out as a whole. Just food for thought.Sony blithely insisted that the PS3 would leapfrog all competition to deliver an unsurpassed level of fun.
Put bluntly, Sony has failed to deliver on that promise.
Sadly for Sony, the best way to explain how the PlayStation 3 falls short is to explain how different it is to use than its main competition, Xbox 360. When I reviewed the 360 last year, I wrote: “Twelve minutes after opening the box, I had created my nickname, was in a game of Quake 4 and thought, ‘This can’t be this easy.’ ”
I never felt that way using the PlayStation 3. With the PS3, 12 minutes after opening the box I realized that Sony inexplicably does not include cables to connect the machine to a high-definition television.
