Newcastle and Fulham slogged their way to a draw. Both teams were wasteful in front of goal, and better finishing would've served the match better. The first half was difficult for a sluggish Newcastle side, which was consistently two steps behind the crisp Londoners. Nevertheless, the Toon nearly escaped the half unscathed. Indeed, only the crossbard denied Harry Shearer's well-taken PK in the 11th minute. Only in the dying moments of the first half was Fulham able to breach Shay Given's goal. A long cross from the left flank saled over the width of the goal to the back post. McBride's header was parried by Given, but the rebound fell directly to Papa Bouba Diop, who slammed home the opener.
Newcastle dominated for long stretches of the second half, as they found their stride. Shearer and Owen had many opportunities, but neither could convert. Finally in the 75th minute Newcastle broke through from a set piece. Jermaine Jenas' corner was headed clear by the Fulham back line only to drop to the feet of Kieran Dyer. Dyer took one powerful touch and lashed the ball into the Fulham goal to equalize.
Good game, Fsquid. Would've been better were it not for the lag fest, but at least neither of us suffered too badly for it.

2nd Half Schedule For Season 6 Is Up
Folks:
The second-half schedule for Seaosn Six is up and ready to go. The deadline for the complete Season Six is Sunday, Dec. 3. Please get your games in by then. Extensions will be liberally granted, and the deadline may be pushed but at some point we will just end it and fill in the unplayed games with forfeits.
We are not moving as quickly this season as in the past. Two teams in Div. One haven't played a single game, and three teams in Div. Two have played only one game as we reach the half-way point of the season. I won't post any forfeits at this time.

any D2 teams want to play tonight? I know 34 & I have to redo our game as he had to leave.. any others?? I am around for most of today & would like to finish my season... Besides, I am like the Oakland Raiders of the WE circuit!

The second leg of the Division 2 session kicked off this evening with Valencia playing host to Real Madrid. Valencia looked to get some revenge after their first leg loss and came out firing. Valencia pushed the action and had several scoring opportunities but Casillas was on top of his game making several brilliant saves. The spanish Armada came to life after the first 20 minutes and Ronaldo finally broke the deadlock after the Valencia defenders were unable to clear the box. Real went into halftime up 1-0. The second was very tight with both goalies making great saves to keep their teams in it and finally after 77 minutes Real got the comfort goal was able to hold on to win 2-0.

We are at the mid-point of the season, so it'll be a couple of weeks. Zep and I were talking last night about the fact that we should be able to get at least one more season in before the new version comes out in February.Blublub wrote:Any openings? After having been away for a couple of years in a land without broadband I have yet to try WE online. I'd normally hold out until WE10 at this stage, but am so itchin' for some online that I'll pick it up today if there are slots.
Zep's out of town for the holiday, so I don't know how much he'll be on the board. I'd send him a PM and you can definitely reserve a place for the next season.

Real Madrid and Juventus squared off in the second leg of the Division 2 season and the Spanish Armada pulled a victory 4-2. Real opened the scoring with a brilliant shot from Ronaldo after just 7 minutes and Raul added another goal just 3 minutes later. Real looked like they were going to cruise to victory until Vieira headed a great cross from Del Piero into the side netting and Real limoed into half up 2-1. Juventus came on strong and was able to get the equalizer just 2 minutes into the second half. It took 25 minutes to break the deadlock as Portillo was able to score twice in 4 minutes to give the Armada a hard fought victory.
