The NHL is reaching too far with these awards, honestly.

First, the league starts naming the three stars of the night. I guess that's OK, since three stars for each game are such a cool hockey tradition.

But a monthly leadership award? How the f*ck do you quantify leadership on a monthly basis?

I have no problem with annual awards such as the Masterton Award, given to someone who dedicated their life to hockey and good citizenship. But a monthly leadership award?

I revere the NHL, but this just reeks of a sad attempt by the league to use monthly Boy Scout merit badges to gain any speck of media attention in the U.S. that it can.

Flyers are up 5-2 on the Ducks with at the end of first period. 8O So I'm off to my local Best Buy where I assume they are giving PS3s away for free.

A rumour mill here in VAN is P. Forsberg for B. Morrison and R. Kesler. Obviously Canuks are struggling a bit offensively but if true, it worries me the constant injuries plagging Peter.

The last thing the Flyers need is another young forward who can't find the net. That trade reeks of a Canuck's fan fantasy.

Also, completely agree with PK about leadership award. Giving a leadership award on a monthly basis is utterly ridiculous.

Go figure. Kesler is the guy B. Clarke qualified him for almost 2 million and he's got only 3 points to show for? You think he's under pressure? I always look to the future and although Forsberg would add an instant dose of offensive power to any team in the league, his injuries are too risky to take at this point.

I really like how TSN is pushing the boundaries in hockey telecasts. I'm not a big McGuire fan in the booth at all, but I think he does a very nice job analyzing the game and capturing the color from the benches when he's between the benches.

Glenn Healy started doing the commentary from the ice last year (kind of like a second colour guy) and so far I have liked it. I did not watch the game with the interview on-ice, but that seems a bit cool. Most guys will probably give stock answers before long though - I know that when I get off of the ice my ability to communicate clearly and concisely is exponentially hindered.

Hard to believe tonight is Dougie Weight's 1000th game in the NHL vs his former team EDM. More than 600 of those games he played for EDM and although he's slowed down this year, he may show a thing or two tonight.

I wouldn't be suprised if he's moved again next year.

The Oil can give Dougie the best present possible tonight by kicking the Blues' ass. :)

Did anyone else see Roloson's diving glove save on Cleary in the first period of the Oilers-Wings' game last night? That was the most ridiculous save of the season, with ease, I would think.

Insane.

Here's the Roli save for anyone who missed it:

Unreal.

P.S.: I may despised Jim Hughson as the voice of EA's NHL series, but I LOVE the guy calling real games. He's the best play-by-play man in hockey, better than Thorne or Emrick.

With EA, they make him read and repeat basically the same scenarios in the game, but in real life, you're right, he can really see the ice well and reads the play with great knowledge. I love it when he says "Great Save by..." We are lucky to have him calling the games for Vancouver on Sportsnet Pacific.

I think EA made Hughie be WAY over the top with melodrama when he did the audio for the NHL series.

He has a perfect grasp of when to add dramatic flair with his voice and when to play it straight in reality. Plus you're right, 10s, the guy sees the game and sets up his color man better than anyone.

'Nucks fans are lucky to have Hughie nearly every game on Sportsnet West.

I don't think Forsberg is going to last the season at this rate. His right ankle is still chronically unstable, even after the major surgery he had on it this summer and the orthotic brace he put in his skate last week. He says skating with his bad ankle is like driving a car in the snow.

I've pretty much given up on the Flyers this season. Forsberg is a shadow of the player he was last year with his injuries (the paper today pointed out at this juncture last year he had 38 points---this year 13), and he is incapable of sparking this team to a turnaround.

Second, people rag on the Flyer's effort, but this team simply is not equipped to succeed no matter how hard they try. Until this team's defense is COMPLETELY overhauled, they will never win consistently.

Although he hurt his groin, before Crosby left the ice he had this beauty of an assist and another tic-tac-toe goal. What a player.

John Hadley of 550am in St. Louis says Forsberg will be traded in the next 24 hours to either Colorado or San Jose.

Not opposed to it, but I'll believe it when I see it. I have a feeling we'll be seeing Forsberg rumors like this all season.

If he's traded, who becomes captain of Flyers? Hatcher--arguably the worst defensemen in the NHL? This could get ugly....

Hadley is off his rocker regarding San Jose. The Sharks have one of the deepest, most talented forward corps in the NHL. Why the hell would they need an aging, injury-prone forward?

Colorado, I could see. San Jose, no.

The way Forsberg is playing no team should take a chance on him. If I were the Philly organization I would sit him down a few weeks until his ankle problem is healed or until he feels he can skate better (he was supposed to be back in JAN after his surgery).

When healthy, very few players are as good as his best days and that's when Philly should pull the trigger and get more value for Peter. But then again we all know how messy things are in management starting with E. Snider.

I see it just the opposite. I think San Jose is a great fit for Forsberg, and he's just another piece to their Stanley Cup puzzle. You know Doug Wilson wants him bad...
