In NHL07.......can someone please explain how to use the "through pass" button (right bumper)? I can figure it out for the life of me. I thought it would be like the "through ball" in WE. When I press the right bumper, it sends a very weak pass stratight ahead. What am I doing wrong?

Hold it down longer for stronger passes. It basically just allows you to pass the puck where you direct it, without it having to be directed to a player. I've found it useful for sending the puck around the boards behind the net.

What is used to "direct" the pass? The right or left stick?

The left I believe. Although I never use that button.. it's easy to direct the puck around the boards just by using the left stick while "shooting" the puck with the R stick.

If you are on the boards, yeah. But if you are in front of the net and use the right stick it's going to go on goal. It is the left stick.

I started playing NHL07 with the "broadcast" camera and after getting used to going sideways with the controls, it really makes the game visually spectacular. It looks like a real broadcast, but with you in control of your team.

If any of you haven't tried this way of playing the game yet, I suggest you give it a go. It does take several games to get used to though, but well worth it.

82 Regular Season games, 22 playoff games. Played every second of every minute of every game. Up 3 games to 1 versus Calgary in the Cup Finals only to see them come back to tie the series.....and then with :43 remaining in a 1-1 game 7, it happened. Jerome Iginla happened.

I feel like someone just kicked me in the balls with steel toed boots.

Just thought i'd share. On to season two!!

Well that sucks. I'm almost to the All Star break in my season and have played every game also but it doesn't look good for me in even making the playoffs. Started out 5 points out of a playoff spot at the beginning of January and proceeded to lose 4 games in a row to put myself further in the hole. :(

Snate,

I'm playing Superstar with Playmakah's SS sliders from OS. I need to do some further tweaking though as, contrary to losing in the finals, it was getting a little too easy. I marched through the end of the regular season and playoffs more easily than i should have.

I also may start a new dynasty as i was half way through my season when the roster update came out so i don't have the current rosters with my dynasty.

Here's the link. Mine are slightly different. I have shot accuracy a little higher (2) as well as puck control a little higher (3). I upped shot accuracy because i was looking for more CPU goals and i found that upping puck control actually creates a few more penalties.

He also set two-line pass to "On" for SS mode--not sure why--but obviously i don't have it on.

As a new "casual" hockey fan I think I prefer 2K7.

First let me state that I've played an extensive amount of that game prior to trying out NHL 07. I do like the control stick, but other than that I like everything else about 2K7 better. Well, maybe I like the "cut scenes" better in 07 as well.

But as far as the gameplay graphics, camera angle, actual skating, passing etc feels more natural to me in 2K7. The game as a whole just seems much smoother to me as well.

I probably haven't played nearly enough of 07 to fully understand its in's and out's, but at the same time I'm not sure I want to. Maybe if I continue to play it more I swing toward 07 the way db did, but I think I may just put it up on ebay instead.

I'm really enjoying 2K7 right now, probably more than any other sports game going. Another thing on that, I don't have the "burn out on 2K" syndrome that many may have since I haven't played a hockey game since 2K4.

Boom,

Glad you're enjoying the 2K game. It does play a good game of hockey. I absolutely think your above quote plays into it. If you haven't played the 2k5 and/or 2k6 then this is going to feel pretty fresh and have that replay value. I think for those of us who have played the 2K series for the last 3-4 years, NHL07 gives us that change we needed.

Good luck.

Yeah, but I swung back to 2k7 after a bit. LOL.

I think 2k7 is on sale for $40 at Best Buy this week if anyone is interested in checking it out.

I'm still really enjoying NHL 07, but I really wish I could play 7- or 8-minute periods instead of being limited to 5, too short or 10, too long.

Really? In 07 you only have 2 options for period length? Yikes, that's shocking...

Are you using 5 or 10 minute periods? Also some posters over at Operation Sports are claiming the game plays differently after downloading the roster update, if you have downloaded it do you notice a difference?

I don't have Live gold currently so I can't download the rosters for myself to see.

I play 10 minute periods and just deal with the high shot totals.

Not sure about the game playing differently after the roster update though; I haven't really noticed anything.

So many games later.. still so much fun.

Playing vs the Blackhawks today, I'm up 2-1 going into the third period really on my game today - and just like that I'm down 3-2 on a great giveaway goal to Chicago curtosey of my defenseman and then I make a mistake with Legacy and Chicago capializes once again.

Chicago goes on a powerplay late in the game, but Mayers comes out of the box and I hit him in stride with a pass for a breakaway and a goal! Tied 3-3!!!

45 seconds to go in the game and Hanzeus gets a rebound and puts one through the legs of legacy - oh s***! I yell at the screen. For the next 40 seconds I pepper Habibulin and Guerin has a for sure goal that Nikoli just gets a piece of with his right pad - damn you!!!!!!!! :x

That was the most intense few minutes ever in a hockey game for me... at least that I can remember. Funny thing is, it happens all the time with this game. (NHL 07) :D

One thing I give the nod to NHL 07 over NHL 2K7 is goal satisfaction for sure.

When you score (for the most part) you feel like you scored. When you miss on a scoring opportunity you can usually say "damn I jacked that up, s***!".

So many times in NHL 2K7 I've wow'd myself with some good moves or passing to setup a really good scoring opportunity only to have the goalie make some remarkable save. So many times I scratch my head and wonder what the hell I've got to do to score. Some of the most gratifying things I've done in 2K7 have come up empty.

In NHL 07 tonight on Superstar I made a hell of a pass in OT and then finished it with the game winning goal. It was awesome because I could see where the goalie was leaving an opening and I nailed it. It just felt so good. However, of course there are times that the puck just dribbles in and you're like "hmm, ok.. I'll take it." Overall though goal scoring is a much greater satisfaction in NHL 07. I just wish the rest of the game was a satisfying as 2K7, because it's not. :(

Hopefully this post makes a little bit of sense.
