OT: NFL 2006 Season Discussion

Today's Bears/Dolphins games cements the "Mike Nolan is Clueless' argument. Saban just copied Dennis Green's script vs the bears today and this time the team didnt blow it to the bears. Nolan last week with a bye week should have done the same vs the bears.
There are a lot of holes opening up now with this bears team that other coaches are implementing. I dont know how good the Bears coaching staff is to make adjustments. Based on last years playoff loss where they kept getting burnt on the cover2, I dont know if they can.

49ers don't have quite the same personnel that Dolphins have, especially on defense.
Grossman was untouched last week.
This week, the Dolphins were all over him.
Plus Taylor just made an amazing play on the int. return for TD as well as causing the fumble.
Dolphins converted the easy opportunities the Bears gave them plus they didn't give back cheap TDs to the Bears defense or special teams like Arizona did.
But I think Grossman was also hurt by the loss of Berrian in the first half. Not that one injury alone slowed down that offense.

Grossman looked very shaky. It's bad when Harrington is the best QB on the field. After the rough first half, Grossman was throwing everything off his back foot and just was scattering the ball all over the place...he was afraid to step up and deliver the ball. I sure wouldn't want him guiding my team in the playoffs when the defenses are significantly better than Miami's. Then again, JT played his ass off...and no one else has a DE quite like him.
What is even worse for Bears fans is the fact that Ronnie Brown looked like freakin' Barry Sanders carving up yards...157 to be exact...with a horrible offensive line. Did the Bears just not get up for the game at all? What the hell?

Kudos to the Dolphins for coming in and kicking the Bears' butts. They were the better team today. The back-to-back Hester fumble and Jason Taylor interception return swung the momentum in favor of Miami and their defense never let up. They really had Grossman confused with their schemes.
I would have liked to have seen them win this one before heading into a three-week road trip, but they played like crap and deserved to lose. Grossman showed the streakiness of a guy who hasn't started a lot of games. He has a tendency to overestimate his abilities, especially when behind.
I think the coaching staff will make the adjustments they need, especially with regard to taking care of the football.

The Bears got outplayed in every aspect of the game today. But I won't lay all the blame on Grossman's feet, but you can gurantee the rest of this town will. He hasn't even started a full season, he is going to have games like this but I like where he is at for this stage of his career.
But today was much more then Grossman. Starting with the ocaches who didn't get the team up for the game at all. The offensive gameplan was horrible today. Receivers were not running crisp routes and Justin Gage wasn't running routes in the playbook. Offensive line was terrible, D-Line couldn't get any pressure or stop the run. Urlachers was out of position all day. The secondary was bad, which is a normal day for them.
In fact the only player who did his job today was the place kicker. I expect the Bears to come back from this 3 game trip 1-2 and then this town will of course go into panic mode, actually that will start tomorrow.
I didn't catch the afternoon games, but seems like a lot of teams lost today who "shouldn't have"

Was at the game, took the bus, so I haven't heard anything about Berrian. Is his injury serious? The Bears had so many chances to win the game today but they kept shooting themselves in the foot. The Dolphins are not the Cardinals and they played a great game. Kudos to the Dolphins. Gage's fumble to open the second half sealed their victory. What a shame they laid an egg at home today.

WTF is with the ref with NO ANGLE on the play coming up and calling a first down on Brady's fourth down sneak?
The Colts D is probably the worst in the league, they can't take a bad call like that!
WCO, as an absolute Colts homer, I'm happy to see someone else thought it was very odd.
*edit* The refs in this game freaking blow. Not sure if they'll overturn the fumble or not, but how do they not call Brock down when he gets the fumble while on the ground underneath two Patriots? Geez. Hopefully they at least keep the ruling as a fumble, but I'm not holding my breath.

If I see or hear that Mellencamp "This Is Our Country" commercial for Chevy trucks one more time this season, I will spontaneously combust like one of Spinal Tap's drummers.
Holy f*ck, this might be the most played-out commercial campaign ever.
Yep, that Brady spot was bizarre. The official made the call from the sidelines as Brady was buried in the pile. How could he possibly have seen the spot of the ball?
Marvin Harrison is proving again tonight why he's the best receiver in the NFL.
Take care,
PK

Whatever they're doing, it appears to be working...wco81 wrote:Madden or Michaels said the Boston fans have been booing Vinatieri since he came out onto the field or at intro?
If that's true, that's pretty classless, after all he did for them.
They think he has some obligation to take below market money just to stay with the Pats or something?
I'm sure it's just fun. Mavs fans booed Michael Finley when he came back and the Mavs cut HIM. Everybody here still loves Mike, it's just that he's on the other team now. They'll put his jersey in the rafters in a few years and all will be fine.

Vinatieri did his job in New England which was kick field goals. He made one unreal kick against Oakland in the snow and the rest of his big kicks were indoors and 85-90 percent of the kickers in the NFL will make them. Who says Jason Elam doesn't make that kick if put in that situation. Adam was just lucky to be put in that position to win 2 Super Bowls!!!wco81 wrote:Madden or Michaels said the Boston fans have been booing Vinatieri since he came out onto the field or at intro?

Every player who has left Edmonton for more money in the last five years is hooted out of Rexall Place every time he touches the puck upon his return to the arena. Mike Comrie, Jason Arnott, etc.
The fans might blow the roof off the joint Nov. 28 when Chris Pronger returns for the first time. Pronger didn't leave for money, but he's still Public Enemy No. 1 in Edmonton.
The booing isn't classless; it's called being a fan.
Take care,
PK

That was a horsesh*t call, too. Marvin spiked the ball in the end zone -- big whoop. Compare that to TO falling asleep on the ball in the end zone after he made his TD grab.Dave wrote:We probably saw the first taunting penalty of his career last night. TO wasn't instrumental in two SuperBowls victories.
And he didn't leave the 49ers the same way Vinatieri did.
Team could have paid Vinatieri more, he probably would have stayed.
The Patriots thought they would pay Brady the big bucks and everyone else take less money than they could make on other teams for the privilege of staying on the team.
Well a few players might be willing to do that but it's presumptious to think they all would.

I think the ball hit the patriots defender after spiking it!!matthewk wrote:It's been like that all season. He was penalized for spiking the ball right in front of the defender. This year that is considered taunting, and by the rules there was nothing wrong with the call.Dave wrote:Yeah, not sure when spiking the ball became illegal in the NFL.

Big f*cking deal. Harrison didn't spike it at or on the toasted Pats' defender.Zlax45 wrote:I think the ball hit the patriots defender after spiking it!!matthewk wrote:It's been like that all season.
