What in the world happened to ESPN Basketball. I´m no ta huge purde when comes to making the game excatlly like the NBA game but man. THe CPU runs down the floor on every possesion and takes a shot within 3 seconds. Playing DE sucks because there is no button to corch or face up the guy. I can´t count how many times the guy just blew by me. How far away is the camera angle my guys look like ants out there. NBA Live isn´t much better. The passing is slow to react. and the CPU sucks your guy in way to often forcing you to lose control of your player. I was covering a guy in a 2 team situation and all of a sudden I get sucked into to his mass and I can´t get my guy to move back. Happens at least 3-4 times a game. Need I try Shootout, or buy an X-Box and get NBA Inside Drive.

I liked ESPN Basketball this year, but I feel your pain. The extended contact zones between players can be a pain in the ass when you´re trying to get around someone. Trying to run the pick and roll is an exercise in futility. I disagree a little about the defensive problems. I for one like the automatic face up. The biggest problem I saw was the inability of your teammates to pick up the "rolling" player on the pick and roll. The CPU runs that play to death, and while you´re stuck in the "I can´t get around this pick" animation, the CPU big man is just waltzing into the paint, since your teammate refuses to pick him up.
NBA Live with heavy slider modifications is a highly playable alternative (looks for Pared´s sliders over at OS), although it´s got its share of wonky force fields and automatic positioning, not to mention a mid-range game that is thin at best, if not entirely absent. Depends on the day, really. The way they´ve instituted contact around the basket is really nice, and the game engine leads to some truly exciting sequences. However, both EA and Sega now seem to think the NBA game revolves around nothing but dunks and 3-pointers.
When it comes down to it, you should get an Xbox and Inside Drive. No force fields, screens and picks work like they should, guys knock down open mid-range jumpers (and sometimes not so open ones), you control your defensive crouch (if that´s important to you), and the playbook is deep and extensive. Do whatever you have to do, sell your sperm, sign up for medical tests at the local university, just get an Xbox, Inside Drive, and a Live kit.
Or maybe you´re wealthy... in which case what are you waiting for?
I´ve been asking that since NBA 2K1. I really loved that game and thought the series was headed for greatness. I can´t say that the series is *that* much better than 2k1 and it has been 3 years.
