HDTV's and Costco Questions

Post by Inuyasha »

I know I've read about this here but can't find the original thread, but I remember someone saying that if you buy a hdtv at costco, it's like you have a return policy for life. Can someone explain that?

Also, how is their selection like for hdtv's and the pricing? Is a 32 inch HDTV big enough for gaming and watching sports or go with a 40 inch? LCD or DLP or it doesn't matter?

Costco just has an extremely unconditional return policy. You can take back just about anything at any time for any reason and get your money back. While I haven't had to return anything, I've heard stories about people returning big ticket items long after 90 days. From their website:

Costco's Risk-Free 100% Satisfaction Guarantee
On merchandise: We guarantee your satisfaction on every product we sell with a full refund.

However, I recall seeing in the store a recent addendum that limited returns on computers. I haven't priced TV's recently, so I can't help you there. If it's like the rest of the tech stuff I've bought there, it'll be a good deal, but subject to being undercut by sales at the big box stores.

I've heard of people swapping laptops every 3 or 6 months at Costco.

Only thing is, they don't have the best selection. If it's like their other products, it's mostly older models.

With HDTVs, I think they carry off-brands, stuff people never heard of.

They also carry some name-brands but again, usually discontinued stuff or something they cut a good deal on.

Some at AVS were saying they would be getting Sony XBR Bravias. Maybe last years 768p models rather than this year's 1080p.

I'm waiting for the 61 inch Samsung 1080p to drop to $2k with free shipping, which hopefully will happen over Thanksgiving/Black Friday. All the reviews say it is comparable to Sony, but much cheaper. If I was only looking to spend closer to $1k, I'd give a good hard look to Olevia's 40 inch set...their tvs also have an excellent picture at a reduced cost.
