Real Madrid hosted AC Milan in their final game of leg 1 and what a barn burner it was!!! RMD opened up the scoring in the 8th minute and from then on it was an offensive onslaught with 37 total shots on goal 25 of which were on target! WOW! Pirlo connected on a wonderful freekick from 18m and Kaka followed that up with 2 goals in the box. ACM went into half with a 3-1 lead and looked to cruise until Ronaldo got one back in the 57th minute and after a relentless attack, Gravesen was able to put in the equalizer to salvage a point for the home team.

Kicking off the 2nd leg, AC Milan hosted Real Madrid in what was billed as an Offensive showcase. The game however turned out to be a defensive struggle with both sides playing excellent defense. One mistake lead to a through ball to Ronaldo which lead to a top of the box finish by Zidane in the 15th minute.
Both sides played good possession football, patiently looking for holes in the defense. Several chance were opened up but neither side could capatilize on the opportunities. Most notably was Gattuso who had 3 shots sail just wide, one of which by mere inches!

Another good one Snate, talk about two completly different games!

City Crushed By Boro
Manchester City FC 2 : 5 Middlesbrough FC
Manchester City's slim championship hopes were all but eliminated last night when they got hammered at home by Middlesbrough, giving up five goals, two for Hasselbaink in the first half.
The game started brightly for both sides, with chances coming at both ends. Sloppy passing at the back gave Boro a chance in the 29th minute, and a low cross was sent in towards keeper James. Hasselbaink got to the ball just before the emerging keeper, and tapped it goalward, where Dunne tried to keep it out, but couldn't turn it wide of the post. In the 40' Hasselbaink added his second, and the teams went to break with the score 2-0 for the visitors.
In the second half, Mendieta added a third goal for Boro in minute 63. Vassel responded for the hosts three minutes later, bringing the score to 4-1, but Viduka (72') and then Boateng (82') continued taking advantage of some very sloppy defending by City. Substitute Fowler added a meaningless goal in the 86th minute.
Man City 2 : 5 Boro
Boro: Hasselbaink (29', 40'); Mendieta (63'); Viduka (72'); Boateng (83')
City: Vassel (66'); Fowler (86')
SoG 14 : 16
SoT 3 : 10
Corners 0 : 2
Fouls 7 : 4
Offside 0 : 0
Poss 55 : 45
GG piggie. Remind me never again to play a league game while a Mets playoff game is going on. See you next week for the return match, and good luck the rest of the way.

Match Report
Newcastl 2 Hertha Berlin 0
SOG 29, 7
Target 17, 2
FK 7, 11
Corners 8, 1
Offside 3, 1
Posses 51, 49
Rafael (Hertha Berlin) Yellow Card
Scoring:
Newcastle: Shearer 21', Owen 45+
Newcastle overcame a scrappy Hertha Berlin to post their second win on the bounce. Despite dominating in goal chances and possession, the Magpies were never at ease in the face of the tenacious Germans.
Jermaine Jenas was industrious throughout, and it was his lovely cross that made the opening goal for Harry Shearer. Shortly before half Jenas created again, this time by making a mercurial run through the Berlin defense and drawing a ball back for a point black shot by Michael Owen.
The 2-0 halftime lead seemed to be a harbinger of more goals for the Toon, but they could not convert any of their chances. Berlin's backup keeper put on a performance which belied his status. The Germans attacked aggressively throughout the second half, but ran into a stout Newcastle back line apparently determined to post their second consecutive clean sheet.
Good game, FB. Any kind of break for you inside the box would've turned the whole game. Good luck down the stretch.

REAL MADRID
Real Madrid hosted Bayer 04 Leverkusen in the anticpated rematch. In the last game, Real escaped with a 2-1 victory in the cold German climate. This time, the game was wide open from the get go as Real scored the games opener in the 4th minute. Bayer Leverkusen pressed and got an equalizer just 2 mintues later. It looked like it was going to be another tight one until Robinho gave Real the lead in the 17th minute followed by a Beckham free kick 4 minutes later. The goal of the match however was scored off another free kick, this time by the famous left foot of Roberto Carlos from way out. Bayer had several opportunities to get back into it, but too many missed shots and a controversial offsides call negated any comeback plans.
Real gets a much needed win in the fight for promotion.
