Red Card: Quedrue (MFC)

Yellow Card: Shearer (NUFC)

Scoring

Middlesbrough Viduka 15'

Newcastle: Shearer 36' 79', Owen 41', Parker 70'

No injuries
Please remember to input yellow and red cards into the league module. I added Quedrue for his red card. Also, you didn't give Viduka credit for his goal.

I haven't been able to keep up with all the games in all the divisions as far as inputting stats etc. I'd appreciate it if folks would check their games and make sure the goal scorers and any bookings are indeed recorded.

Thanks!

I was going to PM Pigpen this morning about adding Quedrue. Thanks.

Match Report

Newcastle 1 Monaco 2

SOG 14, 12
Tar 5, 5
FK 7, 10
Corners 0, 3
Offside 3, 0
Posses. 50, 50

Injuries: Hugo Viana (Yellow Cross)

Scoring:

Newcastle: Hugo Viana 7'

Monaco: Adebayor 71', Chevanton 87'

Newcastle dropped their first game of the season to perennial nemesis AS Monaco. Newcastle came out of the gates fast, with Hugo Viana posting the opening goal just 7 minutes into the game.

That goal stood up until the 71st minute, when Adebayor broke free and beat Shay Given one-on-one for the equalizer. The game looked to be headed for a draw until Celestine Babayaro hacked down Chevanton in frustration in the 87th minute. The FK was in an advantageous position, and Chevanton converted with a beautiful slicing shot for the winner.

Match Report

AS Monaco 6 Newcastle 1

SOG 13, 23
Target 9, 12
FK 10, 7
Corners 3, 4
Offside 2, 3
Posses 53, 47

N'Zobia Yellow Card
Parker Yellow Card

Scoring:

Monaco: Kapo 19', Chevanton 23', 29', 53', 69', 90+

Newcastle: Owen 74'

AS Monaco completely obliterated visitors Newcastle United in their second meeting of the season. Despite creating a fair number of chances the English side could muster little offense, and Uruguyan star Chevanton ran roughshod over the embarassed Toon defense. He scored with his head, he scored with his feet, he beat the keeper one-v-one and he scored through traffic. It was Roy of the Rovers stuff from whistle to whistle. On another day the performance by Roma, Monaco's GK, would've been worthy of man of the match honors, but today it was merely a footnote to a massacre.

The Double sure seems like a long time ago...

Good games, Jared. I was out of sorts on defense all night, and Chevanton was just insane! Even if Roma hadn't been so good I think there was at least a two goal difference in that last game. Good luck the rest of the way.

Fulham 5 - Stuttgart 1

SOG 20; 16
Tar 13; 6
Cor 6; 5
Poss 53; 47

Goals:
Diop 9'
McDermott 22'
Radzinski 24', 90'
McBride 55

Tomasson 27'

Cautions:
Diop
McDermott

Fulham and Stuttgart certainly didn't bore anyone with 4 goals in the first 27 minutes of play. Both teams had ample opportunites, but it was Fulham who took advantage of a crowded penalty area with 2 long range efforts in a span of 2 minutes. Future German #1, Timo Hildebrand didn't stand a chance on many of the efforts as he was continually blocked by his defenders.

Man City Beat Berlin To Earn First Win

Post by Zeppo »

Manchester City FC 3 : 1 Hertha BSC Berlin

Man City earned their first win of the season, defeating Hertha Berlin at home 3-1, thanks to a brace from Sibierski.

The hosts started early with Sibierski fighting with a defender for the ball at the top of the box. Somehow he kept his feet and got a lucky bounce that let him smack a shot between the keeper and the near post in the 1st minute. In the 25th minute, Robbie Fowler doubled the advantage with a laser blast from 25 yds that rocketed into the top shelf, giving the keeper no chance.

Early in the second half, Berlin cut the lead in half when Rafael used his strength to muscle off Dunne and fire a shot past James in the 49th minute. They applied more pressure, seeking the equalizer, but in minute 78, City utilized some nice passing to work the ball down the left side, and Mussamps made a nice move to set up Sibierski with a pass right at the top of the box. One touch to set it up, and he fired with his left foot, once again doubling the home side's advantage and effectively ending the game.

Man City 3 : 1 Hertha Berlin

City: Sibierski (1', 78'); Fowler (25')
Berlin: Rafael (49')

SoG 11 : 20
SoT 6 : 8
Corners 6 : 5
Fouls 6 : 10 (11)
Offside 0 : 1
Poss. 52 : 48

no bookings
no injuries

Good game, Fab. I definitely benefitted from your controller confusion in the early going. I was having trouble handling Rafael all game, but Sibierski was for once accurate from dangerous positions. That Fowler shot surprised me as much as it did you, I'm sure! What a blast! Good luck the rest of the way, and I'll see you soon for the return match.

I'm assuming you kept him out of the 2nd Monaco game, and so there's no need for a die roll.

Pigpen - I can still make 7pm Pacific...PM me to confirm.

Fab - Sorry about declining your invite...was in the middle of my games against Rob.

Others in D1 - I can get in games tonight anytime after 7:30 Eastern (except for the 10pm Eastern slot). PM me if you're available.

Rob - Good games. That 1st game was a tough loss...that Chevanton FK was unstoppable. And Chevanton was just on fire in the 2nd game...he just couldn't miss...even though the score was 6-1, it could have easily been 4-4.

Match Report

Manchester City 0 Newcastle 3

SOG 13, 11
Tar 3, 9
FK, 5, 9
Corn 2, 2
Offside 1, 0
Posses 51, 49

Bookings: Thatcher Yellow Card

Scoring

Newcastle: Emre 44', Shearer 49', Jenas 66'

Newcastle got back on track with a 3-0 victory over Man City. Rebounding nicely from their recent massacre at the hands of Monaco, Shay Given and the Toon defense regained some confidence by blanking the Citizens on their own field.

The first half was a hard-fought scrum, with the Mancunians finding the better chances. Musampa and Sobieski had notable misses in the early going. Just before half, Harry Shearer was clattered on the edge of the 18-yard box. Rather than playing the FK on goal, he squeezed a short pass to Emre, who buried a strong, right-footed shot past a diving David James.

The second half was considerably more open and saw better football played by both squads. In the 49th minute a long ball saw Ameobi through on the right side. He made a spirited run and fired a quality cross in for Harry Shearer, who headed home an insurance goal. Despite tenacious defense by the Man City, Newcastle found a third goal in the 66th minute. A CK was cleared only as far as the edge of the box, giving Jermaine Jenas a chance to latch onto it and fire a winner past a wrong-footed James.

Good game as always, Zep. Take out Jared for me, will ya?

City Suffer First Loss, Shutout By Newcastle

Post by Zeppo »

Manchester City FC 0 : 3 Newcastle Utd. FC

Manchester City's championship hopes were dealt a severe blow this afternoon when visiting Newcastle handed them their first loss of the season, blanking them 3-0 behind goals from Emre, Shearer, and Jenas.

The first half was a tactical battle, with both sides pressing for advantage, but both sides giving up chances. City arguably had the better of play, but a severe lack of finishing skill would prove to frustrate them all day. The first goal of the match came in the 44th minute when a scramble for the ball resulted in a Newcastle free kick just outside the box. With everyone expecting captain Shearer to take a shot, instead he deftly fed a pass to Emre, wide open in the box, who took one touch and scored.

The second half saw City press foward, but very quickly they were punished. A quick counter sent the ball down Newcastle's right wing, and a perfect cross found the head of Shearer near the six yard box, doubling the visitors' lead in the 49th minute. Despite creating consistent opportunities to score, City could not find the finishing touch, and earned no free kicks in dangerous areas. The final goal came off the foot of Jenas, when he received a pass back from the scramble following a corner, and sent the shot passed the screened James who reacted late to the ball.

Man City 0 : 3 Newcastle

Emre (44'); Shearer (49'); Jenas (66')

SoG 13 : 11
SoT 3 : 9
Corners 2 : 2
Fouls 8 (9) : 5
Offside 1 : 0
Poss 52 : 48

Yellow Card: Thatcher (MNC)
no injuries

GG you lucky bastard. Hope Shearer breaks his leg against Lazio!

Monaco 1 - Middlesborough 3

(I didn't write down the stats...but I do remember that it was a pretty even match, but Monaco's defense didn't show up in the 2nd half, leading to the convincing Middlesborough victory)

Hertha Berlin 1 - Monaco 5

Monaco came to Berlin and registered a 5-1 victory over Hertha Berlin, on the strength of Chevanton's hat trick. The game was a tense affair in the first half, with Adebayor scoring from close in the 2nd minute, but Ludwig equalized for Hertha in the 9th. In the second half, Monaco finally found the scoring touch, first with a well placed strike by Chevanton and then with Kapo deftly toe-poking a Chevanton rebound. Chevanton added two insurance goals to secure the victory

Hertha: Monaco
SoG 13:20
SoT 6:10
FK 2:9
Corners 1:3
Offsides 3:1
Poss 49:51

Good games. Look forward to the rest of the games.

--------

Mo, when are you available to get our games in? PM me and let me know. Thanks.
