Hockey Night In DSP

Post by 10spro »

The puck drops tonight folks. And for real, as the 06-07 season starts. There's such parity in the league now that with only an exception of teams everyone can make it to the playoffs and surprise a few like last years' finalists. Even my Canucks are weakened this year, hopefully they won't rely too much on R. Luongo to steal games and get into the playoffs after underachieving last season.

In the West I like the Predators, Oilers (any team that sends down R. Schremp to the minors is good, although I am suspicious of the D-men, PK) and both teams in CAL as in SJ and ANA.

In the East who can match the speed of the Sabres (wished they threw away their new Jersey though) and the usual suspects should have a good season as in OTT, CAR, PHI.

The match to watch tonight is the battle of Ontario.

I'm very excited for this season and hope the Hawks will make it back to the playoffs. They had a very impressive preseason going 7-1. It should be a good opener tomorrow night in Nashville.

Edmonton-Calgary tomorrow night at Northlands. Doesn't get any better than that for an Oilers' opener.

Plenty of animosity will be built up Thursday night for the rematch Saturday night in Calgary on "Hockey Night in Canada."

Bring it!

Take care,
PK

Caps suck. But at least we have Semin to go along with Ovechkin this season. Maybe I'll make it to the Garden at least once this year to see them beat up the Rangers.

Cautiously optimistic about the Ducks, although it will take me a while to get used to the black-and-gold Penguins ripoff unis and not calling them the "Mighty Ducks" 8O

Yeah the home opener isn't the easiest ticket to get at the Garden. I have a buddy who has a partial plan, but I don't think he has tomorrow's ticket and if he does, I bet he has some Rangers friends who he'd give it to first. Plus, there's the Mets in the playoffs tomorrow, not something that happens every year.

The bonus is I'll be able to see the Caps on TV, and in HD no less, if I remember to record it. It's not like the Caps are going to be on OLN a lot this year, although maybe Ovechkin will get them a game or two.

Well, the ESPN panel certainly isn't cautious about the Ducks. Four of them picked them all the way and any time you have the best pair of D's in Pronger and Neidermayer, your team has a chance.

I have the Sharks and Sens in the final.

This is the time of year that I get mad because the Penguins' games get blacked out on Center Ice even though we don't get any channels that carry them

Gotta love the one week where you can actually watch some of the games since Center Ice is free through the weekend. May actually splurge and pick it up this week. I haven't really watched much hockey since I left Phoenix (the Coyotes got terrible), so this year I've kinda got a renewed interest in the team and the game (I love Roenick, so him coming back helps).

It'll be interesting to watch also Ron Maclean refereeing one of the pre-season matches that was played last week. HNIC will show that and you can bet Sour Grapes will make a mock of Ronnie.

I'll be at the Flyers home opener on Saturday against the Rags. After a poor showing in the preseason, I'm entering this season cautiously optimistic.

James:

Where in that story does it say the Pens are moving? The second graph of the TSN story:

>>>Balsillie, the owner of Waterloo, Ontario-based Blackberry manufacturer Research In Motion, is expected to announce the purchase on Thursday. Balsillie will reportedly keep the team in Pittsburgh and he has no intention of moving it to Hamilton, Ont.<<<

They may not Paul, so that's why I wrote ''may move". It's a gut feeling I have that unless a new stadium is built, the team may move down the road, and not necessarily to Hamilton but it'll move.
