MLB Playoffs
With or without R. Johnson the Yankees should handle the Tigers in 4. Detroit has a better pitching rotation IMO but it'll be tough to quiet down NY's bats.
Twins vs A's should go to five. Intriguing match up there.

I'm not sure of the exact order, but the Yankees lineup will go something like this:
1 J. Damon
2 D. Jeter
3 B. Abreu
4 G. Sheffield
5 J. Giambi
6 A Rodriguez
7 H. Matsui
8 J. Posada
9 R. Cano
That is just stupid ridiculous. Their 9th hitter would bat 3rd on most teams.

The Twins let Zito off the hook the few times they had him in a little trouble--running into an out in the 1st inning was a sign of things to come. Through around 60 pitches, his strike and ball totals were about even.dbdynsty25 wrote:Damn...the Twins are screwed. You can't let a 2 run Santana start go to waste...but then again Zito came to play. If Frank Thomas keeps hitting, the A's could be dangerous.
The Dome was a pretty stunned stadium after Thomas belted his 2nd HR of the day. I just wish Gardy wouldn't be so "by the book" with his closer use--why not use Nathan in the 9th to keep you down one?
I won't count this team out though, not after the improbable run they had to become AL Central champs. But damn, it is a much tougher road now.

Pujols goes deep in the 4th inning after Piazza misses a popup behind the plate. 2-0 Cardinals.

By the book AT HOME says to use your closer if you're trailing. He's just an idiot if he didn't. There is no chance of a save when you're at your own place. Although there are a lot of closers who don't pitch well at all when it's not a save oppertunity, so maybe that's what he was thinking. I don't follow the Twins enough to know how Nathan handles it.Dave wrote:The Dome was a pretty stunned stadium after Thomas belted his 2nd HR of the day. Gardy just figured out to use him in extra inning home games this year, so putting Nathan in while trailing is still foreign to him. But I'd say he's not alone in blowing the strategy in that situation--closer-use strategy is not a strength around the league.
Another rough outing for Peavy in SD this afternoon.

Sweet! The Cards take game one. Heck, every game the Cardinals win is an upset according to the baseball experts!
Way to go MVP Pujols! Excellent pitching by Carpenter! Fantastic defense by Belliard! Great relief by Johnson! Way to close it out Adam Wainwright!
The game couldn't have gone any better. I haven't seen a Cards game like this in many weeks. Everything just clicked. I just hope this trend continues.
I'm not feeling too confident in Jeff Weaver, but he has pitched better on the road, and he does have some postseason experience.

Thanks for saving me the time. One of our best games in a LONG while.sportdan30 wrote:Sweet! The Cards take game one. Heck, every game the Cardinals win is an upset according to the baseball experts!
