For one shining moment, I was able to shut out the ingenious tactical assault of 34's insane rantings to pull of some fancy footwork in the box with the big lunk Koller and score before the half. And that was that!
Good game, XXXIV!

Azpaco, we'll have to switch the home teams next game. I always mess that up. I should have declined your invite and sent you one.
For the second game in a row Bayern Munich staged a late rally but this time, unlike the DSP cup semi, the visitors returned home with a point to show for it. Bremen dominated much of the first two-thirds of the match scoring when Klose slipped behind the defense in the 20th minute and again midway through the second when Frings headed in one of Bremen's 6 corners. Bayern got on the board when Makaay headed in Bayern's only corner kick and again just two minutes later when Salihamidzic scored a goal that ricocheted off the top post and straight into the goal.

Crazy game Jack. I had the touch of gold for a while there...My keeper stood on his head though early when you created some amazing chances.

In an up-tempo back and forth affair, the Fiorentina strikers proved too strong on this night. Five well struck goals, many from long distance proved to be the difference.
After four straight goals by the away side, Ronaldinho gave the home fans something to cheer about with perhaps one of the most beautiful free kicks you will ever see. The Brazilian curled the ball around the Fiorentina wall in a touch of magic.
Again...fun game Jack...sorry I don't have communicator- just picked up a Live card last month and it didn't come with it.

Probably the longest hailstorm I've ever seen. Usually it hails for 10 minutes tops around here. This was a good 30 minutes...then it started again about an hour later. This was on top of the 4in per hour of rain. Guess we had to pay the price for highs in the 80's in October.Slumberland wrote:Let me just add that XXXIV was kind enough to share the sound of a Chicago hailstorm through the magic of Xbox Live.

it WAS a crazy game.....but still an enjoyable one, even though you handed my butt to me. It seemed like you scored on every shot you took for a while there. That free kick goal by Ronaldinho was unreal! I NEVER score on those and especially from that far out! It looked like he was 20 yeards outside the box. Anyway, good game and get a damn headset!
makes these game much more enjoyable, IMO. You can a used one for $10 at a local Gamestop....or you can also use one made for a cell or cordless phone.

SOT 4/5
Corners 1/4
Fouls 3/8
Klasnic - 14 (WB)
Borowski - 29 (WB)
Tomasson - 20, 74 (Stuttgart)
Tonight saw a long standing rivalry renewed. Coach Fifa and Coach Azpaco last clashed in a meaningful game back in the 2005 United League.
The two german clubs took the pitch and proved that old rivalries never die, they simply get more intense. Weder broke through at the 14 minute mark after some nifty footwork in the box by Klasnic had the 3rd string defender going the wrong way. Tomasson answered for Stuttgart 6 minutes later, picking up this season where he left off with a brilliant strike from the right side of the area. Werder were not about to sit back and moments later countered down the right channel where Borowski was able to find the net from the right corner of the 18 yard box. The game played very even during the first half with both teams more interested in attacking, than playing between the areas.
The second half found Bremen playing very conservative. They appeared to be happy to kick the ball around deep in their end as if to kill time. Coach Fifa recognized this and applied more pressure to the ball. Tomasson, Cacau, Tiffert and Heldt all saw great scoring chances go wide or high. Coach Azpaco did not adjust his style and it cost him in the 74th minute as poor pass was picked of and sent forward to Tomasson who leveled the match on a gentle shot into the right corner of the net.
Great game Azpaco.

What a tale of 2 halves. Stuttgart carried the first half while Barca went hog wild in the 2nd. Stuttgart had no choice but to hold on for dear life and hope that their keeper could fend of the Barca attack.
As luck would have it, he did hold off the attack and secured a 1-0 win for the boys from Germany.

DSP League Cup Final
Middlesbrough 2 Newcastle United 3

Posses. 48, 52

Scoring:
Middlesbrough: Ayegbani 7', 14'
Newcastle: Owen 24', Shearer 45'+, Ameobi 87'
Newcastle add to their impressive run of silverware with by taking the inaugural DSP League Cup with a 3-2 victory over Middlesbrough. This was a crackling match from beginning to end, and quite befitting a cup final. Only the slimmest of margins separated the two sides.
Middlesbrough came out of the gate with a dream start. Twice Ayegbani made decisive runs through the middle of the Newcastle defense, which was at sixes and sevens early on. Both times he devoured quality passes and finished with class. After just fourteen minutes, Newcastle faced a two goal deficit.
Newcastle set to the task immediately. In the 24th minute Michael Owen produced a goal out of a scramble in the 6-yard box after a Boro defender hoofed a clearance off of Harry Shearer's shin. Owen's goal wasn't a beauty, but it was just what the doctor ordered for the Toon.
Both sides exchanged chances for the remainder of the half, and it looked as if Boro were destined to go in leaders at half. Deep into injury time, Harry Shearer drew the visitors even with a powerful header off of a Lee Bowyer corner kick. It was the third time Shearer had latched onto a corner, and unlike his first two bites at the cherry, he converted this one.
The match was 2-2 with 45 minutes left to play.
Newcastle dominated possession in the second half, but the waves of their attack repeatedly broke on the stout Middlesbrough defesnse and the stalwart goalkeeping of Mark Schwarzer. Schwarzer twice denied shots form point blank range, including one incredible save of a Michale Owen blast from within the 6-yard box. Middlesbrough seemed to enjoy a bit of good fortune as well, as they were given ample latitude by the referree to play physically.
Just as it seemed that this match was destined for extra time, Shola Ameobi emerged a hero. Ameobi had struggled mightily throughout the game, repeatedly giving up the ball in midfield and demonstrating woeful touch in his shooting. Indeed the Newcastle gaffer admitted to entertaining the thought of subbing him out. But in the 87th minute, he tracked back for the ball near the center circle, sprung into a slashing run with the ball and uncorked a tailing 35-yard comet strike that would not be denied. All Schwarzer could do was pick the ball out of the back of the net. Boro made a ferocious charge down the stretch, but time was on the Newcastle side of the Tyne today.
Great, great game again, Pigpen. Schwarzer and the defense were just so tough to beat, and I got very lucky. I look forward to the next derby.
