That FIFA video is a pretty good watch. The footage they showed looked just like WE gameplay as far as the way the ball moved and suched.GTHobbes wrote:FIFA demo is definitely worth checking out for you soccer fans. The volleying did seem quite a bit better didn't it? It also seems that the "stick in the ass" player movement has been toned down a lot. I'm actually looking forward to a new soccer game on the 360 that doesn't involve only international teams, so I'll pick up FIFA for sure.TheTruth wrote:That FIFA video is a pretty good watch. I am a bit disappointed that there was no PES demo released here or England. I created an English Silver account and got the LMA demo and was hoping to get a PES demo, but it didn't come out.

Looks like you and me will be going at it on the 360 then Dave, I'll be getting FIFA for sure as well.dave360 wrote:The volleying did seem quite a bit better didn't it? Me thinks the tide is turning in footie gaming, just my opinion.
Methinks we've seen this movie before: EA claims all-new physics, all-new animations, all-new AI, and puts out a ton of really pretty pictures. Then the game hits, and it's the same-old EA game of foosball, little more than a fashion show with teams and players that don't care about their ratings, because outside of the very few marquee players, they all look the same, and play the same.Boltman wrote:

We'll see, but as they say, 'the proof in the pudding is in the eating.' I admit I was impressed with the video, but then I've been impressed with every pre-release video for FIFA for several years.
This one looks so stunning in stills and the few bits of video shown, but then you read a review of the old-gen version and it turns out Peter Crouch is the same size as Robinho? Yes, that's old-gen and all the other EA Sports games are totally different in next-gen, but still, it's this sort of blinders-on laziness that makes WE look so much better in comparison.
What with Konami and their 'head in the sand' marketing deciding to force N.A. gamers to wait a pointless three months for their 360 offering, I may be tempted more than usual to get this new 360 FIFA. But if I can take the Red Bulls (either the Salzburg or NY side, really) and beat up on Chelsea or Barçelona, I will be disappointed once again.
Online would be where it's at for me, and FIFA has always been a lot more fun head to head than v. CPU, and very good two on two. However, their hyped-up '4v4' BS really only supports two machines, so for most folks here it's an empty promise. Did we all dream NHL Rivals, or did that game really exist, with its rock-solid, six-Xbox in a game online modes? Maybe someday, we'll see something like that again (although I do think Konami will support at least four separate machines online for the PS2 and PSP versions, but I don't think for the 360 version, grrr. . . ).
For now, I'll try to wait for good impressions from people here before taking the plunge. They ceratinly have the presentation aspects down pat, with beatiful lighting and accurate to-the-stitch unis, but if I want a fashion show, I'll stick to Saint's Row, or Dead Rising, or TDU. . .

The Fifa '07 video trailer definitely peaked my interest. What I'm hoping is that the game doesn't play too fast. Has there been a game speed slider in past Fifa games?
The dribbling animations look a heck of a lot better, as does the animations of the ball when it's kicked high in the air. It seems to have a better floaty feel to it, whereas before it appeared to come down too quickly like a heavy weight.

This seems like a good place to discuss the new camera. It's pretty neat, IMO, even though it's a pretty crappy image quality. Unfortunately, I can't get it to work on my Mac for whatever reason. When I try it in iChat, it recognizes the camera, but says 'camera in use by another application.' Some at the XBL forums have complained about this, so maybe at some point they will get a fix or something out there.
I am very, very disappointed that Texas Hold 'em does not use the camera. It is pretty nifty for games like Uno and the Backgammon, Spades, billiards etc., even with the crappy image quality and zoomed to the tightest digital zoom to get that CU from its position under my TV. Video chat is pretty nifty to, but it would be cool if you could do more than one on one, although I guess that's what those games are for!
Having played very little bits of Uno with the camera, I find myself pining for it in all the big-time online games like Madden, etc. It would be pretty neat to have a tiny little window with the other guy's face up in there!
The best thing is using it to do a gamer pic. I love seeing the pic's of DSPers kids, and heck themselves as well. I like my little mini-Kachina guy (what Kachina is that guy, i can't find it out, he has a hand painted on his chest), and it's fun to mess with new ideas.
Good stuff! More games need to use it, more people need to get it, and we need to play some Uno now that we have it!
PS I should say I am very disappointed with the lack of image controls. The 'dark wall' and 'light wall' settings are useless, and there is no other exposure control at all. Auto WB seems to work well, though. Also, I wish there were a way to save several camera-made gamer pic images instead of just the one.

Indeed. However, the latest thing I read somewhere indicated that it was supposed to and they are going to update it sometime relatively soon. Supposedly, the WOP game supports using it to add your face to the avatar for online, using a frontal picture and a profile, which sounds pretty neat. I think Rainbow will also do this, but I wonder if there would be any other functionality in-game. A cross-com style deal could be very cool with the camera.dave360 wrote:It doesn't work with Hold em? Wow, that's disappointing.

Who has a camera besides Zeppo, Mixdj1 and myself, we need to get an Uno game together.
And who is going to lock the doors and close the shades when they play Totemball? I know my woman and Mix's woman will make fun of us when we play.

It's funny that we have to pay for stadiums, but get roster updates for free. Truth be told, if we had to pay a few points for a roster updates I can at least understand that because somebody is doing some work to save me some work, and one can't reasonably expect the game to have perfect rosters at launch. The classic Rams stadium could have easily been put into the game at ship... it just feels like we're paying for something that we would have gotten for free if the whole microtransactions structure didn't exist and of course, there was more than one game in town.
I would pay 20 points max (a quarter) for a stadium. Video strategy guides I will reserve judgment on until I find out how long/good they are, but they already sound way overpriced.

I agree 100% and have avoided buying things off of xbox live since the day of Links. I have always said marketplace was nothing more than a credit card machine and a way to nickel and dime customers.Kazuya wrote:t just feels like we're paying for something that we would have gotten for free if the whole microtransactions structure didn't exist.
Whats even more bothersome is I doubt EA will make hardly any cash off of this. I looked for some 360 sales numbers but could not find any. So lets say they sell 500,000 copies, 1/2 of those people buy an average of 3.00 worth of stuff. Of that, 1/2 of the profits go to microsoft. Thats 375000 which is slightly more than 1% of what they made in the first week. Likewise, it does not count the fact it will piss alot of people off who may avoid other EA products. I also don't think that many people will buy stuff.
Whats even more troublesome is the fact its likely they will try to sell us the same EXACT stuff next year for 07.
I know some people say its a business and its a free market. However it isn't. I can't think of an industry more closed than console sports gaming.

NBA2K7 Reel maker is out for 400 points. I'm curious what people think of this price in light of the EA rip off content yesterday?
I'm going to get it and I don't feel like I am getting taken, but I can't figure out why I'm not upset about this.
