The fall XBL update will include the ability to enable 1080p rendering of games for the 360.
This is NOT good news for Sony...

Meh. I think the framerate will suffer. Plus, how many 1080p HDTV's are going to have a 1080p COMPONENT video input? Alot of these 1080p HDTV's don't even an input at all for 1080p sources (alot of them just upconvert everything to 1080p), and the ones that do have 1080p inputs are usually HDMI, not component.DivotMaker wrote:The fall XBL update will include the ability to enable 1080p rendering of games for the 360.

I'll keep my 360 set to output 720p still, since that's my HDTV's native resolution anyway. Sounds like marketing smoke and mirrors to me.

Plus, as mentioned in the LCD gaming thread, it'll be perfect for those of us with high res 24" widescreen monitors...it'll match the native res a lot closer and make it look a lot better than the current options.DivotMaker wrote:Maybe, maybe not...at least MS has trumped one of Sony's biggest "perceived" advantages. This might be just what I need to get my 24" Dell LCD or maybe even the 30" once prices come down to earth...good idea!dbdynsty25 wrote:

I agree with you about the usefulness of 1080p. But if Sony had any commercials touting it as the "only console with TRUE HD!!!" in the can, they now have to be shelved.DivotMaker wrote:Maybe, maybe not...at least MS has trumped one of Sony's biggest "perceived" advantages. But what do I know, I'm just a guy with a 1080i set and no plans to upgrade.
Anyone know anything else about the DVD upscaling I saw in a few articles?

The 30 is such overkill...lol. I still am amazed at the 24". There just aren't video cards that can push that res during games (nor do the game support it). Very few games even support the 24" yet. 1920x1200 is quite a few pixels.DivotMaker wrote:This might be just what I need to get my 24" Dell LCD or maybe even the 30" once prices come down to earth...good idea!dbdynsty25 wrote:

You are most likely spot on about the 30". I think the prudent step would be to go to 24" when I upgrade for Vista with a whole new PC. I have heard nothing but good things about the Dell 24" model...dbdynsty25 wrote:

I love mine and they have since updated it to the 2407 with higher quality inputs and a different stand setup...so it's even better than my model (2405).
You can find them in the 700 dollar range if you catch a sale or find a coupon via google or something. It's worth every penny. Hopefully Tiger will support the 1920x1200 res this year...they have yet to support anything over 1600x1200...so we'll see.

Bad news....the game does support widescreen resolutions, but nothing as high as your display supports...I was told by the Producer of TW 2007 that the game supports the following widescreen resolutions...dbdynsty25 wrote: Hopefully Tiger will support the 1920x1200 res this year...they have yet to support anything over 1600x1200...so we'll see.
1280x720
1280x768
1360x768
Highest 4:3 is 1600x1200.

I responded to the PC Producer that the number of resolutions was NOT adequate and that they would get royally roasted for not including more, especially for those who ARE able to run in higher resolutions.dbdynsty25 wrote:Damn them.
Thanks for checking.
Your welcome though...sorry I don't have better news....
If you want to traipse on over to TWC, European users already have the game and are offering feedback on the game. Not quite sure at this point, but this may be the first version of TW PC that I don't get.....
