Any reason to keep old XBox around if you have a 360?

Post by JackB1 »

Just wondering what most of you guys with 360's have done with your original XBoxes? Did you trade them in, sell em on Ebay, keep em?
Is there any reason to keep now that most games are backwards compatible?

Any idea what you can get trading in your old XBOX or what it can sell for on EBay?

I sold mine and didn't feel the pain until I realized I could no long join in TOCA nights with the DSP crew. The release of Test Drive Unlimited has made that less of an issue. There weren't really any other original Xbox games that I missed after making the switch.

I still have mine but might post it on Craigslist today or tomorrow.

Indycar and Links getting the backwards compatible treatment really helped that decision, but I'll really miss the ability to play MVP 05/06, Rugby, and TOCA 3.

My recent 360 purchases are keeping me plenty busy when it comes to gaming options though, so I haven't turned on the original box since Madden 07 came out.

A recent deal with Gamestop/EB was something like $80 credit towards a 360 & Madden. Not sure what the value is outside of that deal, though.

I don't think it's anywhere close to "most" as of yet. So that's one reason to hang on to an old Xbox.

I called yesterday and EB games is now offering only $50 credit on trading in your Xbox for a 360. With Rugby 06 not backwards compatible there is no way i'm trading in my Xbox. Also after playing a few games of NHL 07 on the 360...I think that the Xbox version plays a more complete game of hockey. I really thought that NCAA07 would be the reason that I repurchased a 360, then i thought Madden07 would be the reason, then I thought that NHL07 would be the reason and here I am after all these games have been released and I still haven't done it.

Agreed, since Rugby is not BC on the 360 I kept my XBOX just for that game alone.

You should keep your old Xbox if you have any desire to go back and play some of these games. The Backwards compatibility for 360 is ass and even the games that are BC often don't play as well as they use to.

You cats know me: If I take the 360 plunge, then the Xbox must go. I need the funds raised from the Xbox sale to fund the 360, as I've done with all my console transitions.

Rugby 06 is the only game that I would truly miss. But I'm hoping it will become BC or that the next EA Rugby game will be on the 360.

I still haven't made up my mind on buying a 360, as funds and the apparent mediocre build quality still are issues.

But once I go 360, I go 360 all the way. No turning back, even for Rugby.

Take care,
PK

Jack,
Trust me...keep your Xbox. There are still so many good games that are not backwards compatible. Also, EA's two football games are pretty much crap on the 360. While Madden was better, NCAA was utter crap. The Xbox versions are so much better than the 360 versions that it isn't even funny. Poor control, horrible AI, and clock management that would make any football gamer cry.

Also the best console golf game to date just came out on the Xbox. It's called Pro Stroke Golf and while it lacks all the bells and whistles of the Tiger Woods series, it blows it away in terms of control and realism.

Also the aforementioned TOCA series is another good reason to keep the old Xbox.

I wouldn't dream of getting rid of my Xbox until EA figures out how the hell to develop a decent next gen football game.

Yep...TOCA is the only game I miss...but like you Test Drive has picked up the slack for me.

I kept mine principally for MVP 05 but eventually I will pass it on to some kids that really need it.

same with me PK. I need the extra $100 or whatever my XBox will garnish on Ebay towards the 360. Plus, I just dont want to have 2 consoles sitting around. There arent many games I think I will miss other than Toca and I suck so bad at that game, that I am better off without that game in my possesion :D But I can think of about 5 360 games that I will be playing right now.....NHL 07, NBA2K7, MotoGP, Madden07,
TDU.

None for me. I still have my Xbox but it's dustier than Dr. Ruth's clitoris.

Initially I could still go back and play Xbox games but now that the 360 is hitting its' stride (Dead Rising, Saint's Row, Madden, NCAA, NHL games, Test Drive) I'm fully entrenched in the next gen. The next gen is now my current gen.

Looks like used XBoxes are going for around $100 on Ebay.
I think it's better not to bundle it with games, because you probably
lose out that way. I think if you sell everything piece-meal, you will
make out better. Probably what I'll do.

There is for me - mine are different regions.

Well, it varies.

I don't have mine anymore and do not miss it. However, I'm a 95 percent online gamer and most of the people I play have made the jump.

If I was one of only a few that had the 360 while the majority of my friends were playing on the XBOX, I'd be missing it for sure.

For me it's all about online community more than anything else.

You can soft-mod it(easy and virtually free) and use it as a media center-or hard-mod it with a big hard drive and use it as a movie/game/music repository.

NCAA 07. That's reason enough, imo.

I kept mine, and in fact have it set up right next to my 360. It still gets used quite a bit, mostly at the moment for NFL 2K5. But I'll still throw in various games as the mood hits, and there are kids games my daughter likes that aren't backwards compatable.

Besides, if TOCA and Tron 2.0 aren't BC, my Xbox isn't going anywhere.

A lot depends on how you feel about not gaming while your 360 is out for repair. I ended up picking up a used 360 and really am glad I did because NCAA is a lot better on the original xbox and i also missed playing MVP NCAA and NFL 2K5.
