As a Civil War buff to the hilt, this jazzes me quite a bit. My resistance is cracking, fellas ...

Whoa, that's pretty unexpected. Cool. I still play the History Channel's Bull Run RTS game on my laptop every now and then.

Gabba gabba, one of us, one of us!

I was looking through the upcoming releases and saw this listed. I liked Sid Meier's Gettysburg so I could see getting this.

Exactly what I thought, Brando. I really dug Meier's "Gettysburg." One of the few PC games I've ever played other than Football Manager.

RTS or another FPS game?

You need keyboard/mouse for RTS though.

Not necessarily. EA did a fantastic job bringing Battle for Middle Earth 2 to the 360. The controls were deep yet easy to use.

I believe it's an FPS, which will be interesting if the fire rate of Civil War weapons is modeled correctly. We're talking around three shots per minute, tops, with a rifle.

That will make strategic decisions and troop movement vital, which is very cool with me.

Take care,

I've certainly got my eye on this. I've always had an interest in military history, and as I have ancestors who fought in the Civil War (their names are on the Pennsylvania memorial at Gettysburg, one even earned the medal of honor) this might be worth checking out.

Heck, I even own a musket that was made in 1863!

Thanks PK! Definitly interested as it will be a different learning experience from COD's frantic shooting.

I've heard it's a RTS, which if that's the case I'll pass. Give me a FPS and I'm in. That could be really good. Maybe I'd get my wife to play that one. She could try to put one over on me (too much Southern pride in her).

first ever first-person action game based on the Civil War.
Right out of the story, not sure that a first person action game would be a rts. But its an odd quote.

I don't think a FPS would work for a Civil War game. Let me rephrase that, I don't think anyone could make that game. They would be tempted to dumb it down so it wouldn't take you that long to reload, it would be entirely too accurate and they would make it too much like Call of Duty: Civil War.

Of all the missing genres in video games, the Civil War and the the are two of the biggest in my book. There's way to many games with Elves, Orcs, Middle Earth, Magical Powers, Star Wars etc.

Hopefully this new Civil War game is good, we'd see a lot more developers take risks in other genres. Sad part is, if they are successful, you will see an flooding of Civil War games.

Thanks for the link PK. I saw this game listed months ago but no other info. Finally we get to see some screens. I teach American History so this is definately on my radar. Imagine being able to fight battles like Vicksburg, Chancellorsville, the Wilderness, Cold harbor, etc. :) Preventing Stonewall Jackson from being killed and choking off Vicksburg until surrender sounds pretty cool to me.

Anyone with a reasonable PC who has an interest in Civil War Battle simulations should check out MadMinute Games Bull Run. It and it's sequel are terrific games.
