NHL 07 and NHL 2k7 IMPRESSIONS
Starting this up (please don't f*** up this thread too).
NHL 07 has no create-a-player? WHAT THE HELL? man. That is a killer. As the rosters always suck. I like having myself in the game.

I'm not really happy with this nugget from the IGN review:
"EA said the focus was squarely on the skill stick this year and that defense and goalkeeping will be addressed in later versions of the game. "
Seems like they are implementing the MVP-like three-year plan which will probably yield a solid game...in another one to two years. The first year seems to be all about the offense, just like year one's MVP was all about the hitting system...and that left other areas of the game obviously behind.

Is this for all the versions? I do play the PC version, this could be a gamekiller. Should be such a simple feature, especially since they have it before.Sudz wrote:Starting this up (please don't f*** up this thread too).

What year did it become acceptable to fix one part of the game and let the other parts stay broken, anyway? The bar for sports games has been lowered so far in the last decade that it just amazes me. It's like EA will never put out a complete game because then we wouldn't have a reason to buy the next one.webdanzer wrote:I'm not really happy with this nugget from the IGN review:

Todd, the manager at the gamestop in Atlanta just told me over the phone that they're showing the 360 version will arrive tomorrow. She said that the PS2 version was pushed back, but I didn't ask why.MizzouRah wrote:My gamestop just told me there was an issue with distribution and it's going to be another week, wtf?
He also told me it's world wide, but of course I don't believe that.
Post what store you find a copy, if indeed anyone does today.

People that have the game already say that CAP is in the game and that IGN messed that up in the review.Sudz wrote:Starting this up (please don't f*** up this thread too).

I think I'll call them back and check on that again, thanks!GTHobbes wrote:Todd, the manager at the gamestop in Atlanta just told me over the phone that they're showing the 360 version will arrive tomorrow. Some nice impressions...
Its pretty freaking amazing how much the new stick handling adds to the game, and Ive spent most my time simply experimenting with ways to deke out the competition. The new 'looseness' of the puck makes the game feel more like a down-and-dirty fight for possession, full of bouncing pucks, shoving matches along the boards, which I love.

From a review I read at 1UP on NHL 07:
Of course, no game is flawless. The goalies have a terrible habit of letting the puck hit their helmet or shoulder and letting it float behind them. Sometimes they kick it in for an own goal, sometimes they smother it, and sometimes it floats harmlessly over the goal. But it happens a distracting amount.
It's worrisome, I don't like cheesy goals and although the new control scheme will be the talk of town, somehow I think the play is still on the arcade side.

I saw that goalie issue in the shoot out. Quite a few goals were of the sloppy variety that trickled into the goal because the goalie stopped the shot but lost awareness of where the puck was. I can see it happening once in a while, but I saw it a little too much in the shootouts.
Personally, I was more impressed with the improved graphics and camera angles of the demo for NHL 2K7 - and this is coming from someone who didn't much care for the game last year. The demo drew me in - and remember that I had been without a 360 for over 3 weeks and had not had a chance to play Madden - and yet this hockey demo was much more compelling than Madden 360.
But I still may wait till I see some opinions here. But I like the analogy about EA NHL and MVP. The first couple of years of MVP showed potential, but did not compel me to keep playing once I started seeing the lack of depth and the flaws.

I love and hate Frys. I love them for the price, I hate them since there are none here around NYC.DivotMaker wrote:Not sure how many here are interested in the PSP version, but Fry's has an ad today selling PSP/PS2/XBox versions for $19.99 and they claim stores will have them for sale by Noon today....

I was referring to NHL 07 pricing, not 2K7. 2K7 was not even mentioned in the ad I saw...Zeppo wrote:I'm pretty sure all but the 360 version of NHL2K7 are priced at $20 at all the stores, so I don't see what's special about Fry's price.
Also just read a bit closer that these games will be available TOMORROW at Noon...
